Gap Wedge: Irons or Wedge Matching?

GW matches my wedges. Currently playing 48/54/60

My irons stop at at PW. I go to specialist wedges from 48 Vokey, 52 RTX3, 56 bent to 58 RTX3. Better suits my gapping and has made my hole proximity so much better, even with the half and 3/4 shots into greens.

Usually I’ve had it matching irons but right now I’m matching wedges.

Strangely my gap wedge (CBX) does not match either my irons (Mizuno 900F) nor my other wedges (TM Hi Toes). Go figure.

I did try the Mizuno 900F GW for a few shots on the course the other day, with middling success.

I am mostly a 3/4 swinger with GW, and the added CBX forgiveness is comforting, and I have a lot of confidence in distance control with it.

Mine matches my wedges. My irons set ends at pitching wedge. Gap, sand, lob wedges.

My irons 4-PW match

The 50° 54° and 58° all match

what do you do when your wedges don't go higher and 54 (es21), and your set irons don't offer a gap wedge (Vega VC03 raw proto)?

Both. I have sets with the GW matching the irons and sets with the GW matching the wedges. At the moment, the GW (AW) in my bag matches the irons but that may not last much longer (do you hear me set AW!?!?)

GW matches the irons in my last few and current set... if i played more often and had easier ways to tinker, i'd probably test out a non-set GW

Gap wedge is a set wedge in my Cobra FTBs. I've tried wedge-matched gaps before and I just can't get along with them. I think that's because I like to use my gap for full shots.

GW matches irons. As the last full swing club, I like the feeling of the turf interaction being as similar as possible to the other full swing irons.

My GW matches my irons. I tried switching it to match my wedges and it just didn't work for me.

I’ve always been a set guy but I‘be been enjoying the Morgan Cup specialized wedge in that slot this summer.

I use a different setup and smaller swing with wedges than irons and it doesn’t work as consistently when the loft is less than about 50 degrees. So I start my wedges with a 50 degree GW and everything longer is an iron from my set.

Mine are SGI type irons and traditional blade style wedges by the way.

Wedge matching. Only because a 50° MD5 was cheaper than the matching iron set wedge.

GW matches iron set, then go to 52,56,60 Always have matched GW to set irons, don’t think I could change now.

Set wedge, no real reason why though, just always have.

My AW matches my irons, and it blends in really well with them.

This is one I used to be firmly in the set gap wedge camp for, but, as I’ve gotten more to where I want to be in terms of being able to be creative, a bladed wedge serves its purpose in that 46-51 degree range better for me.

Match my irons - PW, AW, SW.

My GW is my last full swing club as well and matches my set because of that. I've never actually tried going traditional wedge down to PW. It would be interesting.

Current set up is Ping G irons through the PW, then GW, SW, 58* are Ping Glide 2.0

One Lengths. So GW and SW match the irons. 60° lob wedge is the last pre-existing VL club (other than driver).

I prefer to have the gap wedge match the set because of full swings and it’s going to be a little more forgiving.

I was playing a traditional wedge in the set for a while with some really good results but the margin for Error was too high.

SIM2 max PW, AW (49*/9* bounce) and Volkey 54-10 and 260-12. Considering switching the Volkey’s to increase bounce on the 54* and decrease bounce Om the 60* to 4*.
