lol , mind did think of him, when read comments . 👍😁

It kind of makes sense players can’t bet on their own sport. This is in the case in every other sport.

I mean he is the one who said "I'd play better if they'd let me play drunk" And got a 6 month ban for being drunk in public one night.

This isn’t hypocrisy to me at all.

Fans like to gamble. Gambling sponsorships means more money for league. Players get more of that money.

Fans also don’t like feeling like the sport is rigged. Players betting on the outcome equals fewer fans. Less money for players.

If you can’t not bet on the sport you play then you’re dumb.

Iam unsure of that , ban (?)
but it isn’t electrolytes he’s drinking on course lol

If you are a player, and I imagine most on here are, gonna need you guys to stop playing those five dollar nassau games, as well as cease and desist on all other betting on golf.

Anyone found to have placed a bet during league play is hereby suspended for 3-6 months, regardless of league affiliation.

No wonder pickle ball is becoming so popular 🤦‍♂️

I think Pandora's box was opened as soon as they started allowing legal wagering on sports. I'm not one to defend the PGAT because I think they've mismanaged a lot of things, especially recently, but I feel the same way about professional golfers betting on their sport as I do about any other athletes - you know it's against the rules, that's been clearly communicated, so don't effing do it. At any time or place, in any amount, with anybody. And if you choose to do it anyway and you get caught, shut up and take your medicine like a big boy, you knew what you were doing.

It is dumb. It is not like they were betting on a tour they were on and/or had any affect on the bets placed. It is just more of "do as I say, not as I do."

If on one hand a league endorses a product, and they do that when they accept funds from it, then on the other hand turns around and has a policy prohibiting it, it becomes the very definition of hypocrisy.

I gotta roll with Tempe on this one.

I guess if one is going to be a hypocrite, it is best to do it for the perceived right reason. 🤷‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️

Betting on the sport you play can be compared to inside trading which is a criminal offense.

The stupidest thing is why make the bet yourself. Tell your 3rd cousin to place the bet. 😂

Not sure about the PGA Tour's rules on gambling in general but not allowing players to gamble on golf is right in line with other league's policies.

In the NFL, players are allowed to sports bet on other sports, as part of the CBA. League personnel aren't allowed to sports bet at all, and aren't even allowed to enter a sportsbook during the season.

The likelihood of a KFT player having good inside information is quite high. Prohibiting them from betting on golf is not out of line, is clearly prohibited, and, quite frankly, is an easy rule to follow.

Play dumb games, win dumb prizes.

They should be able to bet on anything they’re not competing in.

My take on sports gambling in general:
There's a reason it wasn't legal in many states for many, many years.
It opens the door to corruption at all levels.

I think the potential for inside information is a major issue here. So many players played college golf and friendships are made.

99% of the time this will never happen, but if it happens once, it will raise concerns.

I imagine there are rules in place for family members and relatives, but I don’t know.

John

I don't understand why PRO Athletes can't understand the concept that "Your NOT allowed to GAMBLE on your sport"
It isn't that Hard to understand.

Sadly that ship has sailed, especially for those that consider it “economic development”

It is is the same for fans betting on golf and affecting outcomes of tournaments by stalking, heckling, hassling, yelling or distracting players that may be jeopardizing their bets. It has already been happening at tournaments. I'm not keen on betting on golf unless it is designed to not have any affect on outcomes at tournaments.

This is going to have to be dealt with eventually.

I know what you are but I think they taking money to play with fire. I can't believe there won't be some major gambling/sports controversy at some point. Human nature hasn't changed.

Just another term for "selling your soul to Satan"

The NFL suspends players longer for gambling then basically anything else other than murder.

As others have mentioned, the idea that players are gambling on their own sport compromises it's integrity. They have to be incredibly strict on this. So i don't really have an issue with it.

These guys can gamble on 100 other things, fantasy football, basketball, monkey knife fights....just not golf. It's not a huge ask

I agree with this. I don’t think it is a big ask to tell players on all PGA related tours they can’t bet on them. Plenty of other sports to bet on.

Here's where your logic falls through. In a "friendly" game, the only money at stake is that which is bet among the group. There is no "purse" at stake.

It wasn't legal because congress basically wrote some legislation that gave Vegas a monopoly on sports books. Some folks decided to contest that, and the SCOTUS saw that what congress had done was basically create a rigged game.

One thing that I just can’t stand and triggers me more than anything else is double standards and hypocrisy..

The tour is collecting millions in sports betting. Will have sports books at events next year, then does this.. it’s ridiculous..

First off - this is neither "Hypocrisy" or "double standard" by any interpretation of definition.

The major sports leagues set out rules and this is one of the rules. NFL players have been suspended this season as well. Follow the rules of your employer....or find a different employer.
