PING G430 MAX 10K Driver Preview

I thought the days or adjustable sleeves pretty much ended the days of vanity lofting.
With the advent of launch motors it’s doesn’t behoove an oem to vanity loft as it would cost them ball speed in the bays. If anything these days you’d want to err on lofting them lower than stated loft.

I just checked my off the rack 430 max which is 10.5.

That's impressive efficiency out of a 12* head. Was the ping straighter than the qi10?
I saw a guy today swinging his driver 92/93 and getting 1.48-1.5 on quad on repeat with a 10.5* head and decent launch. It grabbed attention.

I didn’t think you could get past 1.48-49 on the quad. 1.5 mind blown !!!

Well I can. And probably can with that head now that I've seen that today. It's definitely not easy or in any way common though from an average joe. Like I said it had mine and others attention. It's not really what you think of with an ultra forgiving head.

I'm pretty sure that guy's friends would have beaten him if he left without it. 😆

Guy at the local fitting center by me put up some really good numbers with it

Okay, inquiring minds need to know; what is this device and where can I get one?

It’s just a cheap digital angle finder I got off Amazon. But just letting you know it’s not super easy for measuring club loft. You have to make sure the club is at a 60* playing angle to start with and ensure the face is at a 90* angle. It took me alot of practice to get it right without having a club device like GolfWorls sells to hold it all straight. With irons I’ve been able to get to within 1/2 degree compared to the local shop guy’s Mitchell machine

This one has had a lot rave reviews on it. Haven’t seen it but seems like its pretty quick as well

After accepting and enjoying the E723 I can't imagine any sound issues for me in the future 😂
My c723 is pretty loud. The TM sim is also a super loud 1

Hi, Tried this out at my golf club using a demo in the Alta cb Reg shaft. I game a fitted Callaway Rogue Max ST with a stiff Oban HD Devotion specialist shaft. Didn't want it to be better but in the round I hit most fairways and was longer. I had to slow down my swing for the regular shaft but it was still long and very straight. I shot four under my handicap with the fairways found contributing to a good score for me.
As I said I didn't want it to perform as I don't want to pay out on another driver considering mine is a couple of years old but fitted with a slightly different shaft I think this will be an amazing driver.

The club didn't look bigger than any other modern ping driver to me.

Max 10k is the real deal. I bought mine with a Tour 2.0 chrome x-stiff (SS is roughly 105mph). Great fit out of the box, in fact my first drive with it was 285 straight down the sprinkler line. I will likely tinker with shaft options including a HZRDUS 4G 6.0 shaft that I already have tipped for Ping, as well as possibly a TR Red or AD-VF. The club does not fix a bad swing, but if the face is close to squared up and I don’t dip and leave it wide open, is such a fairway finder with great flight and distance. I’m confident this will stay in the bag this season!

I must say it's been a long time since I've been surprised by a club like this Ping 10k. I ran over to the local Edwin Watts yesterday and I happened to hit a window where there was almost no one in the store. For $hits and giggles I decided to hit most of the new drivers out this year. They have a GCQuad set up just like I have at my house.

I really didn't plan on buying anything. I've hit the Stealth+ and Stealth 2+ the last couple years and had planned on keeping the Stealth 2+ in play this year. Long story short I was having a really bad day and just wasn't finding the center of any club consistently. I was about to leave when the owner (who I know reasonably well) suggested I try the Ping 10K which had been getting rave reviews so far. I honestly wasn't interested and told him I was swinging poorly and the 10K wasn't really something I was interested in anyway. He said "I can see you don't have your A swing today which is exactly why I want you to try it".

Away I went and I couldn't consistently find the face of the 10k either. However, everything was still in play and I was getting 1.45 smash on balls that were so far out of the center that I felt like I almost missed the damn ball (my miss is always on the toe side). Further, the spin was staying in a nice window. I ended up making an impulse buy and bought a 9 degree with the Kali white stiff.

At home, good ball to good ball I was seeing slightly higher spin (but not a ton) vs. my Stealth 2+ and the 10K was on average only 3-4 yards behind the Stealth 2+. And that is with the Stealth 2+ with my gamer Fujikura Blue Velocore shaft in it vs. the Kali and I still need to tweak the loft on the Ping a little.

On crap strikes tho........wow! I don't believe I saw anything below about 1.42 smash with the 10k while I a few real stinkers with the TM were well below 1.40. Dispersion with the Ping was dramatically better as well. I'm 55 years old and was swinging the driver in the 102-107mph range yesterday for reference.

I'm anxious to get the Fujikura into the Ping for a test spin and get it tweaked a little bit more specifically for me. This new Ping is the real deal for sure.

Continue to see people be a little surprised with their shot shape with this one. Yet another guy I know who normally plays a straight to falling right shot was hitting mostly baby draws. And it was enough to convince him to give it a go.

I used a Kai’li White 60S @ 44.75” when I tested a 10.5° head with stock weight. The face is so shallow it took me some playing with tee height to get my strike sorted out. Once I found a tee height that I liked, I hit some real good balls. Driver is an absolute weakness for me at this point coming off injury but this 10K driver showed promise. I tried the 10.5° Max head too and got slightly better numbers likely due to the confidence I felt thanks to its taller face. Spin was a wash, dispersion was equal but 10K was left of target line versus Max being a hair right which I prefer. I’m going to revisit these heads and throw LST in the mix too but I could easily game either of the Max heads.

I stopped by the store tonight while running some errands and looked at some new releases. The shape to this one...wowzers, just not for me. I know it gets some impressive buzz out there right now, which is cool to see. I just don't see myself getting over the shape.

I impulsed bought the 10k (sold my G430 Max to a playing partner) 1st round today 10/14 fairways hit 2 of the misses were just off in the 1st cut
The other 2 were bad tee height
Found i have to tee it up more (for me anyway your experience may vary) after i worked it out it was money
Yes it is louder than the G430 but nowhere near the ting of the G425
Once the tee height issue was settled i found it hard to miss the middle of the club

It,s a incredibly straight driver did not fade or draw found it so easy to square up the face point and shoot
Black tee stroke monthly medal was on today our 18th hole off the blacks is a 180 yard water carry
Into the 10mph wind i flew it easy (only have a slow 94mph swing speed bad back) and dead straight
What impressed me the most tho was the front to back dispersion just about all my drives were within 10 yards front to back

Very consistent driver large footprint down at the ball but not off putting

Would highly recommend having a hit at a fitting center or demo day

I hope the other manufacturers get more into the 10k moi research and development. Especially by also managing spin.

Was not intending to go home with a new driver after testing for fun on Friday. Proud owner of a G430 Max and the Sim 2 will be retired. Carry distance was not a big gain over the Sim 2 but the dispersion was so much better. If I can keep the ball in play off the tee, I'll drop 4-strokes immediately. This club gives me confidence.

Excited to get this thing going as the weather warms up and the swing gets more dialed in.

Forgiveness with minimal distance compensation was my big take-away.

Are you talking about the 10k version?

I demoed this against my LST just to see if it was the Goldilocks between the Max and the LST. I think the smaller face profile and just the sheer size of it messed with me. Didn’t do anything to knock the LST out of the bag. Anyone else coming from LST a convert?

I play the LST now and looking to possibly switch. Likewise, planning to test first.

I did some further testing of the 10k. 7.5 degrees seems to work best for me. I was getting some really good numbers with that. I was pretty fired up when I took it from the SIM to the course the first time on Saturday. I hit it well on the course, but that sound.........
Sick Oh God GIF by Film Riot

Honestly, it sounded pretty good indoors. Normally I can tolerate just about anything and I actually like some of the old Ping higher pitched sounds (ala G425 ish). However this one sounds a bit like an empty tin can. It will be tough to get adjusted to.
