Tater Tots - prove me wrong.

Are tater tots closer to hashbrowns or french fries?

So hear me out.

Tots are closer to hashbrowns than they are to french fries.

This came up this weekend. Tater tots are just mashed together hashbrowns, so many little pieces put together. French fries are one continuous piece of potato.

Am I crazy to think this?

Thank you for attending this mornings food talk.

They are the superior fired potato product and I agree with your assessment.

No, this is not correct.
The only thing they have in common with hashbrowns is that they are both shredded potatoes.

They are not cooked the same, or even cooked in the same vessel.
They are used with dipping sauces unlike most hashbrowns.
They are not eaten the say way, unless you are a weirdo.

I went with closer to hash browns because they are shredded.

I will also add I don't care which they are they are fabulous.

I was gonna type something, but this is better than I would have come up with.

You've got me in cooked the same way. I concede that point.

I will argue that people eat them both with Catsup (is that how we spell it here?)

Tie - I'm sure some people pierce them with a fork (spork), but I'm really reaching on this one.

I don't want to change my mind, but you make a very persuasive argument.

Have to agree with @JB here. Hashbrowns and tater tots are only similar in that they are shredded potatoes.

What he came up with in 3 minutes and typed out is a better argument than what I heard over 2 hours while we played golf at a sim bay in a bar.

Originally had no opinion on this until I read this post. Spot on.

Is dunked in oil or fried in a skillet with oil really that much different of a preparation method?

This is a perfect food take.

And tater tots are awesome.

Going by the original post's content as far as makeup and consistency - yes they are closer to hash browns than fries.

As far as JB's post about how they're enjoyed - yes they are closer to fries on that front.

Yeah man. One is basically food suntanning and the other is in a hot tub.

@JB , is correct. tater tots are deep fried and hash browns are grilled. Anyway they are tasty.

They are damn good by themselves, and they are great covered in chili and cheese

I agree with you here. It’s a valid argument
