Woodworking / Furniture Building

Finished all the furniture for the shop, here's a couple pics;

Shelves all in place.

Centre table with corks under glass on the top.

And the piece de resistance, a 180 wine bottle chandelier!
All that remains now is to finish the rolling ladders for the shelves and make some picture frames.
I have to say this has been one of my favorite jobs ever, not often a customer let's you do your own thing.

Damn faiz, truly impressive work there man.

Agreed, some great looking stuff.

That chandelier is awesome! Guess I better pull some corks and get drinking if I want one :D

Holy. How much did the chandelier weigh?

Haha actually the client asked the wine producer in South Africa if he could have some spare corks for the shop and they sent 2 sacks! I don't know why but I've never really developed a taste for wine but the owner of the shop assures me that he has approximately this quantity of corks stored from what he's drunk in the last couple of years!

Well all the bottles are empty and the top is Mahogany on a steel base. I can lift the top by myself, not more than 20-30 kilos. With the bottles I'd estimate about 70-80 kilos or so?
I asked the guy from Hilti to take a look and he recommended some flush anchors as the concrete slab is really strong. Put 6 in and no problems at all. Probably could have gotten away with 4 but I'm not taking any chances!
Did some good work on the ladders today so hopefully they'll be finished tomorrow. The steps are beautiful grooved Mahogany to go with the rest of the shop.

So I assume the rack is going to be a wine rack then (after seeing the rest of the room's theme)?

Nice work man. That chandelier is awesome. Very unique.

The rack is a wine glass rack;

It fits on the wall but we may hang it from the light fitting.
For the third Sunday in a row we worked in the shop and got the ladders in there. Perfect fit which I was really happy about. I was worried about the AC but we've avoided that but I forgot about the light fitting so we'll have to raise that by 3 links of the chain.

Here you can see the lines are more or less parallel to the shelves;

And a couple more shots of the chandelier from different angles;

So yesterday we were invited for the soft opening of the shop, best opening I've been to for cheese and wine reasons!
Here are some photos of how it turned out;

Everyone who walked in loved it and I have had a few requests for quote which is great.

Haha it's a trade I inherited my father is a custom carpenter and cabinet builder, I had no choice but to learn the trade. I did it for awhile as a living now I just dabble with my own projects.

This one is a whiskey cabinet made of curly quartersawn white oak.

I was wondering when we were going to see that. Looks great! Love the curly you used in the front rails.

I haven't poked my head in here in a while, and since I was sending a potential customer some photos of a home office I built a few years ago, I thought I would post them in here as well.

I have a few cast tools passed down from Dad. They aren't nearly in as good of shape as these though. I display them.

Thanks it's definitely unique even though it's oak. It's hard as a rock as well not easy to sand and had to really watch running it through the planer and sander.

Wiped down with Danish Oil and ready for spray.

I'm in awe of the work you guys do! So much talent. This was a labor of love started with no experience. Pretty rudimentary compared to most of the stuff in the thread but it was a lot of fun.

All of the wood was sourced from my Grandfathers farm.
