Off Course is back this week with a fantastic show. Hosted by Dan Edwards, each Friday he gives you a deep look into the world of golf and equipment in a way unlike any other podcast has done before. Today, Hiro Fukuda from Nippon Shaft joins the show and they discuss the commitment to quality from Nippon.
It wouldn’t be Off Course without some tangents, but Dan and Hiro breakdown Nippon’s iron shafts and pairing their Modus3 line of steel with Regio graphite. This show has a lot going on and is one you will not want to miss as Nippon goes Off Course.

Episode 146 is here and Dan and Hiro discuss the following topics.
Breaking Down Nippon’s Iron Shafts
Pairing Modus3 with Regio Formula
Nippon Commitment to Quality
Finding the Right Fit
And so much more

Oh man I’m all in on this one
HIRO!
I can’t wait to tune into this one!
Big fan of Hiro and this just inspired me to put a Regio in the bag for my next round.
Hmmm. Putter shafts!
Great listen, I really never fully understood the differences in the Nippon shafts. Now I do!
Will have to listen to this 1 today.
Timely after just being fitted into Modus 120s. Definitely gonna listen to this one. Thanks Dan

That means it’s Regio Formula B+ time!

Regio is really a fantastic line. I’d love to see a reboot of the aesthetics in the future.
I love my Regio shaft so much and love to buy another.
I have a saved search on eBay in case one comes up for sale.
Looking forward to this! I’ve been playing Nippon shafts for as long as I can remember. They just always seemed to work well for me.

Hell no. Spent enough money. Sticking with these
I’m so glad he mentioned NHK Steel and the suspension springs. We are a supplier of NHK. The amount of quality inspection required is incredible. Anything we send them gets the same level of quality testing as Aircraft Quality. The springs go into your most common Japanese cars like Honda, Toyota etc.
You had me at Nippon!
What a great golf nerd podcast.
My first question on THP was about the 1050gh vs the modus.
Was real close to giving the modus 105 a shot in my srixon order, fell back to familiarity right at the end. If this pod was a week earlier I would have been swayed.
I have nippon pro 105g shafts in my irons and wedges ?
Great podcast. Hearing the talk about quality control has me wondering how much that actually matters vs other shaft manufacturers. He did mention that most of the defects are cosmetic so I wonder what are the chances you are getting a product from other companies that has a defect that effects performance?
Super interesting listen so far. I woke up, pulled up apple podcast like I always do on Fridays and saw it was with Nippon and got excited.. It struck me both super funny and oddly very appropriate to refer to shafts as “golf springs”.. I like that.
I have played a few different Nippon shafts in my day. Have not really found one that I thought was the best fit but they have always had really good feel.
Looking at Nippon website now!!

A lot of fitters in my area love their shafts. I was fitted into the 105 with Apexs 21s
Need to give this one a listen, I’ve been playing the modus3 line for awhile now
I don’t think I’ve ever used a Nippon shaft. Interested in diving in to this one this weekend!
Looking forward to this one. Have zelos 74g in my wedges and love them.

In terms of raw materials, their quality standards assure they get consistent material every single time. The variance and tolerance window with them is incredibly small. I can’t speak to every OEM but there are companies that buy the same quality of steel for the same application and don’t have nearly the same standards
The the chatter between the modus and the 1150. I had been curious between the two.
I’ve played Nippon iron shafts the last 5 years. The GH980 in a set of 565s was my first Nippon shaft. I moved to the Modus 105 for my ZX5s. I loved how they felt a bit ‘tighter’, but still lightweight with a strong high ballflight.
I didn’t leave well enough alone and decided to try to Mizuno Shaft Optimer. It recommended the DG105 as the best fit and the Modus 105 was 4th. I tried it in a set of irons and didn’t like them nearly as much as the Modus 105s. That’s going to be my stock shaft from here until I age out into something else.
I enjoyed the conversation about the Regio line. I wish Nippon would make a bigger push into this space in the US. Right now they are hard to test/purchase.
Super interesting. I wasn’t aware of the parent company and the explanation on quality from that was really cool.

I don’t know anything about your swing, but the MB+ would be a great starting point if you’re playing the 105. I have both here at home. The MB+ is fantastic feeling shaft.
Need to listen to this. I’m pretty familiar with their stuff and I know quality is 2nd to none. This was even acknowledged by TT at a past event.

The hard part was finding a place to buy them. Other than Tour Spec Golf and eBay, there wasn’t a lot out there….
I love the driver shaft I was just fit for, but wish it would have been an option.
