While covering the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, THP spent some time in the TaylorMade Tour van and while there, they were getting ready to make some new drivers for PGA Tour superstar Dustin Johnson. THP decided to capture that build from beginning to end with Wade Liles and have him showcase exactly what goes into a tour build for one of their players. All the way from picking heads and shafts to watching DJ try it for the first time is captured in this THP exclusive video series.
The video is broken down into a few pieces for easier viewing.
What a wicked series of videos! Thanks for putting that together, that was incredible to watch. Wade seems like such a chill dude, yet you can tell he loves what he does. I have to be honest, seeing drawers of shafts and clubheads was pretty awesome.
I had to lol @ Wade when he talked about trimming the shaft length, “you always want to cut them a bit longer b/c if you cut them too short, well, that’s not good”, hahahaha
Great videos, thanks so much for that.
awesome set of videos. It’s pretty impressive how quickly Wade is about to make those drivers. I know part of the reason I went with an adjustable driver was because I can glue the tips on myself. I love it when he opened the drawer and all you see is white club heads and shafts. I got a little laugh when the one club fell over after he re-gripped it because that seems to happen to me all the time when I’m doing that kind of stuff.
What a great set of videos!!! I am just amazed at how they can fit drivers to everybody. I think that would be such a cool job to have working on a tour van. Nice job THP!
+1 TC, Those videos are amazing, i love watching the R11 get built, Great job GG and THP. I dont think i would sleep for a week if i got a chance to watch them do their magic in that trailer lol.
Awesome video again….it’s so cool you guys get to talk to these guys. Especially the guy who just starred in his own TM commercial!
Interesting. I noticed DJ is wearing a Burner logo on the side of the hat. Not sure of he had the R11 logo on the front of it, I don’t remember.
Cool to see Wade is the same guy from the commercials.
Another solid video, love how THP give us an inside look on the Tour. I love club tinkering so I really enjoyed that. Thanks!
That was fascinating!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the look behind the scenes.
THP does it again!. Thank you for another great video of inside the Tour.
Great stuff as always. Awesome videos. Pretty cool that it’s the same guy in their new ads. Did he say what the 2 different tippings were? How about all that WHITE!
That is a great set of vids! I would love to just spend a day playing in that trailer!
I was fascinated with those videos and the overall process. It’s not often that we get such an all access look at what goes on in those vans, only on THP! Thanks guys, those videos were great.
Awesome videos! TM has done an amazing job with this technology and all the adjustments that can be made so easily. This makes me want to work in the tour vans! I’d love to have all that equipment! Especially the drawers full of parts.
Now I noticed he still puts on the grips the oldschool way. Do they use a quick drying solvent now so they can use them so soon after the grip is put on?
That was awesome to watch that. Thanks for taking the time to do that and Wade thanks for your time as well
I am so jealous that you got to be there to take these videos!! Well done Team THP, well done!! It all just seems so simple, and that’s why I’m sure TM has the following that they do. Simple yet so effective. I’m wanting one of these drivers even more now! Thank you very much for the videos!
Great videos!
Thanks for getting these videos guys! Keep up the great work!
Best Video Ever!
Man, I want an R11 so bad.
Did you all see GG in the reflection while he was gripping haha. Bet she wasnt expecting that.
Was that a cordless, power, torque driver? awesome. I didnt even know there was such a thing.
EPIC videos! Looks so easy and they really do have everything to get the players dialed in
Thanks THP! Outstanding video – makes me want to go build a club!
Great job…well done! My shafts when drying cure overnight…not in three minutes. lol
Great job guys probably one of the best video series I have seen.
That was great THP! I was kind of surprised to see DJ using a 10.5* head.
Awesome set of videos. I am surprised that they didn’t check the shaft frequency nor check for the FLO/Shaft Spine. Unless those 2 shafts they used were exactly alike, there is going to be some variation in how they play for Dustin.
Thanks for sharing these!
Thanks for the videos! It’s just cool watching Wade build those clubs, such a high level of experience. Just think of the lucky Morgan Cup TM staffers that will be getting their clubs built.
Wade Liles is a Tommy Lee ROCKSTAR!
And he’s got the hollywood good looks of a husky Kevin Spacey.
Someone cast this guy for Two and a Hald Men RIGHT NOW!
Freaking AWESOME videos. Love that Taylor Made gives THP so many insider looks! I’m telling you its made me a HUGE fan of TM. Thanks JB. GREAT STUFF!
Very cool videos. This guy’s a wizard with the tools. It’d take me 2 hours to do what he did in 10 minutes.
I love how they can build his specific driver without a single manual manipulation of the club like bending.
I wish I had a slew of those weights to play with on my R11.
Just incredible videos, I was almost a little sad when the last one was over, I wanted to see more. You can tell that he loves his job and is crazy good at it.
Great Job on the videos. That was very cool to see and glad both THP and Wade took time to do this. Very impressive the things that they can do on the trailer. I would love to be able to do something like that. Nice job THP!!
Awesome video’s pretty cool how they can get the epoxy to cure so quickly. Excellent behind the scenes work THP!
It did not look like the shafts were oriented in any special way before he epoxied the sleeves in place. I was expecting to see something more like the shafts being pured.
awesome vids, great to see Wade is truly their truck rep. He did a great job selling the R11 too, but I’m sure there are drawers with SuperTri’s on the other side of the trailer 🙂
Cool bids!
Great vids!
Those were really awesome videos!! It is really cool that TaylorMade let you in the van to take vidoe of how they do stuff. You can tell that Waide is a true expert and passionate about what he does and pays attention to detail.
AMAZING ! That was soooo coool ! Thanks, THP !
Tour vans rarely spine/flo, unless they are asked to. Generally not considered necessary by tour guys. I’m not a tour guy, but I’ve never noticed a difference. Had my r11 built at the Kingdom last week and they didn’t do it to mine either. But why would it matter with an adjustable shaft that you will rotate to adjust? BTW, that 3 minute curing cell is awesome.
Amazing set of videos there. That is unreal the speed they can build golf clubs and I know that it was a little slower bc of the narrative for THP. The drawers with all the clubheads and shafts is just insane. Thanks for sharing that wonderful series of videos. It just goes to show how truly special it is to on the PGA tour and have the tour vans at the events to help the guys out.
I’m surprised the shafts are not pured or any mention of it.
Or spined……
Terrific set of videos. Did anyone catch Ted Tryba working on the other side of van working on clubs? Ted played the tour for quite a while. Not sure if he still does or not.
Wouldn’t we all love to open the drawers in our work room and find all those heads, shafts, grips, etc. LOL. sweet!
When I win the lottery that’s gonna be my workshop! 😀
Awesome video, THP! Very interesting to see the behind-the-scenes stuff.
These videos were fantastic! So cool to see this behind the scenes stuff. Even better that Wade didn’t try to hide anything, he just showed you what he does. Great stuff!
What is the length of Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia Driver Shafts???.
Thank you in advance
