2022 Titleist AVX Golf Balls

It is hard to believe that it has already been four years since Titleist made the bold decision to produce another ball and place it among their flagship ProV1 and ProV1x offerings. At the time, it was met with a mix of anticipation, confusion, and excitement. Fast forward to 2022, and the AVX has been nothing but a success for the brand.

The AVX changed the paradigm for Titleist, giving them a third Tour caliber option to further create a lineup that has something for everyone. As is always the case, however, the company is never done improving their products, and today they are introducing the third iteration of the AVX.

Before we talk about what is new, it is always worth looking again at what the base design of the AVX is intended to be. This golf ball came about as Titleist sought to offer a lower flighted ball which produced lower overall spin all the while having a softer feel. That mission has been accomplished with the AVX, and it has quickly become immensely popular for those who battle high spin on a regular basis.

This version focuses in on the feedback Titleist had been getting at all levels, and of course that was centered around seeking out more distance, keeping the feel, and adding more spin for those touch shots around the green.

Step one to that is a softer urethane cover that will grab more around the green, but that was also followed up by reformulating the core and tweaking the aerodynamic dimple pattern. Internally, the new core keeps the center soft, while firming up the outermost edges. The testing for Titleist has shown this change decreased the driver and long game spin without sacrificing any of the feel.

Rounding it all out is the new aerodynamic pattern, a 348 “Tetrahedral Catenary Aerodynamic Dimple Pattern” to be precise. This has seven different dimple sizes which has shown to produce more consistency, though this notion originated with the ProV1 and ProV1x, Titleist has created this specific version just for the low flight of the AVX.

The Details

The 2022 Titleist AVX is priced at $49.99 per dozen and will come in both white as well as high optic yellow. They will be available in golf shops everywhere starting 2/4/22.
