It has been a bit since the last iteration of the Callaway X Forged irons. Today, multiple sets are coming out in the form of a player’s cavity and muscle back, but we are focusing on the Callaway X Forged CB.
Today they are announcing the latest version, the X Forged CB and MB and this post we are talking all things CB. In the video below, we explain the tech, take some swings and breakdown all of the data to give you a full understanding of look, feel sound and performance from the THP Tech Studio.
After watching that, what are your thoughts on the Callaway X Forged CB?
What are the main differences between the APEX line the X forged line?
I assume this would be most comparable to the APEX and am curious to hear some compare/contrast thoughts?
Pretty different irons. Different feel, thinner top line and sole.

Thanks…you thinking more APEX Pro from a shape/footprint perspective?
Man that one is a pretty telling and awesome view.
That said, the consistency @Canadan saw was excellent, and the feedback on strikes seems right.
Excellent video format as well.
Footprint will be closer, but still pretty different irons. With that said, I think people looking for that style will end up trying both.
Thanks. That makes sense. From what I remember from the last x forged it was a little longer blade and maybe a more straight looking leading edge which I think the tour staff that gamed them really liked. Looking forward to seeing these in hand.
Really good video @Canadan love seeing some #’s to go along with the looks and tech story.
Not a fan of the look on the back but the tech has me curious especially with a thinner top line. Address look is much more important for me.
These will be on my must try list for new irons. The back is funky looking, but that’s not an issue to me. The function looks to be right at what I prefer. Interested to see the lofts.
edit: looking at the Callaway website, the lofts look very nice. 4 deg gaps from 45* PW to 29* 6i and then 3 deg gaps.
Look of the back is interesting, and probably less appealing than P7MC and JPX 921 Tour at first blush.

These are well outside of my game ability; but I’m certain will be upgrades for some… The mechanical/industrial look to them doesn’t really suit my eye (I prefer a much cleaner look), again, I’m certain this will be a great fit for some.
Great performance for @Canadan for sure; great consistency there
Numbers are great, but looks wise I’m not sold on. Need to see these in person to try out.
This is something that @JDax and I were speaking about. The images really make it look more industrial or unfinished, but in hand they look pretty darn good. Almost high tech meets industrial and it is very polished.
I’d like to see them in person but that price point is above where I usually look.
thanks for mentioning the ball, @Canadan. i was thinking the spin looked low and was wondering why they put out a lower spin iron paired with a lower spin shaft, so that helped me understand.
Agreed, I thought they looked better in person.
@Canadan hit these very well, me not so much…
Good vid guys! Were you swinging the IO X shaft @Canadan ? Any other thoughts you want to share on them compared to other similar weighted offerings?
Here are some more pictures I shot and of course we have a lot of it in the video along with others.

Did you get a chance to hit them?
Not excited at first glance, just being honest. But I see why it was done.
Nope. I didn’t have time to even run over to the range (middle of a tournament), and was really encouraged not to drop a ball where I stood and zing one there from the back lawn of the clubhouse. My poker face must have been crap because I was totally going to do that exact thing. I mentally explored all unacceptable options in that moment.
Yeah, 105s.. I would love for them to be the 125s but maybe in my old age the 105s are the way to go..
Ideally, I would like to try them both. I have a feeling the 125’s would be an easier transition since they’re just about the same weight I play now. But, I will for sure try the 105’s out to see how they feel.
i really don’t understand these pricing comments. it’s $200 more than p7mc and jpx 921f (i’m using 921f because i would think the tech and materials are more in line with this than the 921t), $300 more than when they released the last x forged a few years ago. callaway has always been on the wrong side of price leading, presumably because of more tech/better materials/whatever. yes it’s expensive, but it doesn’t seem out of whack relative to what the other guys are doing.
Nice review, very good information
sorry if i missed it in the video, but are there different plates available during a fitting? that’s the only thing i can think about the screws in the rear plate. if it’s just one plate to fit all golfers, then i really wish they would have glued in or found some other way to adhere the rear plate and done away with the screws. it’s a small gripe, because i love everything else about the way these look.
I understand what you are saying but that $200 is a big difference. Especially considering the irons you just compared it to. The TM irons are going gang buster and are being reviewed extremely well.
It isn’t in my information, but my gut feeling says yes. Not to the general public however I would imagine.
