Off Course is back this week with a fantastic show. Hosted by Dan Edwards, each Friday he gives you a deep look into the world of golf and equipment in a way unlike any other podcast has done before. Today THP Staff Writer James Miles joins the show to deep dive into the weighting that could help all golfers tune their equipment on the fly.
It wouldn’t be Off Course without some tangents, but Dan and James discuss everything from Edel bringing out new irons to the sound profiles of the 2022 drivers across the industry . This show has a lot going on and is one you will not want to miss as James goes Off Course.
Episode 112 is here and Dan and James discuss the following topics.
Edel SMS Irons
Connecting with Skilled Amateurs

I’ve never had a lesson, and just try to get by on athleticism. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it’s a struggle. I’m sure lessons would help, but I’m always hesitant because I don’t want to go through a process to breakdown, and change my swing. Maybe I’m stubborn, but I’m ok with my swing for the most part. Putter could use some work, but that’s as much between the ears than anything else.
My issues do come though when I’m on the course and I can’t get off the tee. Or I’m missing every shot with a slice. How can I adjust? Mostly I just guess, but I’m wrong as much as I’m right. I don’t understand the golf swing, and my swing, enough to know when I need to get to be successful. I’m sure we all go through this, but this is what separates the average golfer, from the good golfer. The in game adjustments to find success.
How much higher can you get than need to hit, because that’s where I was before Off Course, and now I’m even more excited.
I want to try them as well.
Considering how unbelievable the wedges sound, I have to think the irons are much the same.
I’ve seen the wedges up close and personal courtesy of @Nate<80 , and they look fantastic, and he’s always raving about them. I might have to steal it once his Cobra clubs come in
Thank you. I really enjoyed this show.
Pretty cool weights, there.
I had to chuckle about the reference to being crazy to carry more than four wedges, since I currently have 5 in my bag, although I think it is different when your pw is 42*.
I also appreciated the discussion about trying to remake a swing to one’s detriment. I am very shallow and I have worked to get a more negative angle of attack with my irons. It wasn’t helping my iron play. This year, I have worked on club speed, but nothing else. I am shallow and just embrace it. I am playing as well as I have for a long time.
Glad you enjoyed it buddy!
Loved the SMS and really looking forward to some live feedback. Multiple weights for adjustments could get pricey with all the irons in a set. I may not understand that piece correctly so will wait and see.
The new Titleist drivers coming up have me on the edge of my seat. Can they be better? It’s been a few years since I purchased new drivers in sequential years. All the new drivers this year do sound phenomenal!
Thank you so much for leaving that last piece out from across the pond.
Fun listen boys!
I forgot about that teeny weeny little beg hahaha ?
They are my favorite ball right now for sure
How do you mean? In terms of will they use it? Definitely, way more than us olds, they’re willing to dial in and are numbers fiends.
Trying to un-jumble the thoughts I had on this and type something somewhat coherent . If you have a younger golfer trying to learn mechanics and positions, but you are able to assist (at least somewhat) clubface delivery more effectively through fitting/adjustment, do you think you’ll see better results with younger golfers? More improvement faster? Better swings from younger golfers? If someone has a child born in 2022, and dad celebrates with a new driver – in 15 years if that kid gets that hand-me-down, he or she will already be light years ahead in terms of adjustability and allowing potentially better results from "swing your swing" than a lot of people started with.
As for swing your own swing I’ve been telling a buddy of mine that for a year or More now. Im way to damn old to learn something new. So is he.
Loved the show wish I wasn’t late listening. Work getting the way of my THP time sucks
What an absolute party!!!
I haven’t been soft capped yet, but I fear it’s coming. I have no clue what’s going on right now. I’m over 3 strokes above my 12 month low but there’s no indication I’m soft capped.
I’m at the lessons and swing your swing part now. It hits home hard. Over the years I’ve unknowingly made adjustments to eliminate my big miss – a hook. To do that I’ve gone vertical. If I work my club flatter in my backswing I’ll hit a big draw. I can draw my 60 degree if I take a flatter backswing. I could take lessons to fix things, but I know the cause and the fix. It’s just a matter of good repetitions.
I need to stop rolling my wrists over. I basically need my hands to do the same thing as a hold off fade while using a flatter plane. The unfortunate part is I need to stay off the course and hit the range to ingrain that move and build trust. If I don’t have confidence it won’t banana slice I’ll hook it. I’m at such a mental impasse right now. I can make the adjustments really quick during lessons but it takes forever to become part of my swing.
1/2 over 1° up 4-pw if anyone has a set to send my way!
My specs are close. Let’s meet up and you can give them a go!
Mine are not 1/2 over but are up 1. Maybe a meet up for a round when I’m up closer to your area. I work each month a few 4.5 hours away.
