Las Vegas Golf Courses

I played Paiute-Wolf and Painted Desert this week.

Wolf was really nice, definitely will play there again. For Oregonians, think something between Langdon Farms and Pumpkin in terms of quality and experience (not style).

Painted Desert...not sure. The course was nice, although the rough was oddly high in around the green and it was possible to lose balls 5 feet off the green. The fairways and greens were nice, just need people to do a better job of repairing divots, etc. Somehow I didn't love the course. I think it was a combo of two things. First, we were supposed to be 1st tee time of the day and I expected to be done quickly but instead they added two foursomes in front of us and they were slow on an epic level. That tainted the experience. Second, the holes didn't really seemed overly interesting. There were a lot of holes where the fairways were tight and fairway features didn't seem to come into play too much. Hit something straight off the tee and you are good. I am sure I'll give it another chance but at this point I would be much more inclined to go to Paiute to play Snow or Sun instead.

Thats disappointing to hear. I have heard such great things anout Paiute and subsequently have always wanted to play the courses. I will still one day play them but will temper my expectations a little. How was the wind on your day(s)?

I didn't mean that as a knock. Langdon is one of my favorite local plays and Pumpkin - the few times I've played it - has been in really great condition. Wolf does show some signs of getting some play but that's probably more a statement tourists not caring for divots and pitch marks than anything else. It definitely is worth playing, no question about it. I'll be back to play Wolf again as well as Snow and Sun.

The wind was mostly not a big factor. Unfortunately it did gust into our faces on a 165(?) yard par 3 with extensive carry over water. But other than that I didn't give it much thought. I am sure you've played in much more wind at Bandon.

I'll be in Vegas for Feb. Any feedback on WildHorse? My friend belongs there and although municipal, looks challenging.

Played Paiute Sun and Snow this week and they were in great shape and probably the best two day golf experience I have had. I will be writing a full review with pics as soon as I get some time this week. I would go back this week if it was possible. I wish all of Pete Dye's courses were like these.

I played Wildhorse back in Feb 2008 in 40 degree weather with 15 mph wind. Not worth it for an average course. It wasn't in great shape back then.

My friends and I are lucky enough to have our rounds and rentals comped for this upcoming Friday, while we are in town for the bowl game. Really looking forward to it!

Las Vegas Golf Courses

Hello all!!
some friends and I are taking a guys week off to head to Las Vegas for some golf and fun!

I have been doing some research on glf courses out there and was hoping to you all would help us out and give us some ideas on where to go for some great golf.

thanks in advance!!

Where have you looked at thus far so it will give us an idea on what your $$$ range is.

Pauite, three courses, 20 or so minutes from downtown vegas, very easy to get to. Not sure on current pricing but it was cheaper than some of the stuff in the city when I was there.

price we can handle from 50-150 range....but around 75-120 would be ideal

Bears Best - Nicklaus design and caddies
TPC Las Vegas - Up in mountains, great layout
Badlands - Crazy little course for under $100 but a nice track
Red Rock - Palmer course, never played but heard it's great!

Oh, forgot one more! Royal Links! Great track and they offer a Par Mate's!!

"To further add to that golf experience we suggest you consider having a Par Mate accompany you during your round of golf at the Royal Links. Par Mates are attractive young female caddies that will do everything from helping you with distances to assisting in reading the undulating greens. Additionally they will serve as your personal hostesses during the round to eliminate any hassles or drudgeries and make the experience more pleasant, enjoyable and fun. "

Sounds like a no brainer to me. :D

thanks for the replies guys!!!

Getting excited for this trip!!!

Its 26 miles from the strip in Vegas, so figure 25-30 minutes if you are staying in one of the casinos. I stayed off the strip so it was a little easier to get to for me. I am not sure what the rates are now but I would venture to say around $100 depending on the time of day plus if you play more than one course they usually give a 20% discount.

I also played Royal Links, that was fun but I enjoyed the Paiute courses much more.

I just found out I am probably going to Vegas for work the last week of February. If so I will probably stay at least an extra day and play Pauite or Wolf Creek again.

I'm a Royal Links hater haha. I'd go with Paiute first for sure. Wolf Creek is well worth the drive and money. Its been freezing here the past week so the courses will probably be a little spotty as far as conditions.

Paiute is much closer and its Northwest of Vegas. Is say 25 minutes. Wolf Creek is Northeast and in Mesquite and is about 70 minutes. Both are great. I've played 2 of the 3 Paiute courses and need to get the third next time out.

I enjoyed Wolf Creek, definitely something you don't see very often but it wasn't cheap, might be out of the price range if you are playing prime time, I am sure rates have changed because of the seasons but full price when I was there was $175. Twilight was significantly less thank goodness.

I played there first week or March last year, had one of the last tee times and I think ours was around $115 or so

I played Wolf Creek in the middle of summer and it was dirt cheap. $35 or something crazy. And since it was 105* there were only 3 cars in the parking lot.

Summer out in those states is like winter in the Northeast. Brutal heat but cheap golf as opposed to cold and cheap golf. There was no one out there when I was their either though and it was nice out. I would say there were no more than 4 or 5 groups out there and only 2 foursomes that I saw.
