NHL 2012-2013 Season

Washington had to sign a blank check to Ovi to keep him there.. 9.5 on the cap every season for what, ten years?

Someone can feel free to try and convince me that Sid was worth less, or that management actually had to convince him to sign that deal. He could have easily justified a 10+ year 10+ million dollar per year contract and I bet they would have given it to him in a heartbeat. That's not good management, that is being in the presence of THE best NHL player and letting him steer the ship.

Look at other teams who have even close to that level of talent... Hell, Columbus had to fork out 7.8 million per year to nash, who couldn't be bothered to try more than half his shifts. Is that bad management, or bad luck that they drafted first a year that Sid wasn't on the board? It's luck of the draw.

Wait, huh?

Colby Armstrong, Erik Christensen, Angelo Esposito, and a first round pick for Hossa and Dupuis.

Christensen is out of the NHL. Esposito never made it to the NHL. Colby Armstong is, well, Colby Armstrong. That first round pick ended up being 29th. The Thrashers selected Daultan Leveille. He has yet to play in the NHL.

Dupuis alone has obviously been a million times better than anything the Penguins gave up in that trade.

Nice crystal ball view into that trade.. I said teams can't afford to dump their assets for rentals, and that's exactly what Pitt did. There was no guarantee that 1st would flop. There was no guarantee that Esposito would flop. As much as you want to chirp him, Armstrong was a solid asset.

Like I said, most teams don't have the freedom to dump the farm to get rentals. Pitt does.

You may disagree that they're the way to go but NHL GM's sure do not.

That gets you what? 12th in the league in GA/G?

Chicago, Detroit, LA, Boston, St Louis, etc. all go against that "trend". The only reason why the Pens can get away with it is because they know they'll put the puck in the other net more often.

No playoff hockey tonight. That sucks.

Gonna be a boring night....

Nice to see the Hawks get the last laugh in the rivalry. Now, bring on the Kings!

Chicago most certainly has talented puck-moving defenseman. Detroit's run was fueled by arguably the greatest transition/puck-moving defenseman ever in Lidstrom. Chara is an incredibly skilled puck-carrier. Drew Doughty is most certainly a very strong puck-moving defenseman. Alex Pietrangelo is an excellent puck-moving defenseman.

These teams all have defenseman who are talented transition players.

This is hilarious... Possibly the best taunt gif ever made.

Is Datsyuk saying, "So what?"

Considering the Hawks/Wings game 6 had the highest TV ratings of any hockey game EVER, Id say youre wrong on that one. Its always a higher rated game when its an original 6 team, which is something that the Pens will never be.
