So, just back from Myrtle Beach and I'm already planning my next visit across the pond. We have been going once a year to Florida with a dozen guys for a couple of years now, a friend of mine had listed a couple of course we have NOT visited previously, any thoughts?

We are staying in Weston, but we can drive a bit, and we try to get reasonable green fees, we definitely will play Plantation Preserve several times because we like the course so much, but otherwise we are open for suggestions.

We play Ryder Cup style competition, but I think I will have a day off or two and would definitely like to play with THP'ers! Freddie Kong!

Check on PGA National.
Its an hour from Weston or so, but the courses are amazing and they have 5 of them.
However sometimes it is harder to get on without staying there.

Thanks JB! I think we talked with my friend about that course, but I will check it out for sure!

Any chance you and Morgan would be in Florida 17-26th of October? I know you are busy, so if not golf, maybe a captain & coke?

Im not sure yet Castor. We would love to see you again.
Where you are is about 3 hours from us, so not too far. GG grew up near that area.

I sure did. In fact I grew up in the neighborhood across the street from Eagle Trace. My school bus stopped in my neighborhood and that one. It has been over a decade since I have been back but it was my home since childhood.

So we are going to play at least:

Plantation Preserve (old favorite)
Heron Bay
Jacaranda

We are trying to get a deal with:

PGA National
Crandon Golf

If you guys have some ideas for excellent courses in Weston / FTL area with 50-100 USD green fees, just let me know!

Have you played at Omni at all? I played the National on my last visit and highly recommend it.

Thanks, I'll check the Omni, a couple of friends of mine have played there. The drive could be an obstacle...we're staying in Weston, and it's a 3-3,5 hour drive to Omni Championsgate.

So...if we narrow the search to Weston / Fort Lauderdale, and 1-1.5 hour drive limit.

Eagle trace is a smoking course, Jacaranda is top of the list down there, tough but fair. Another one about 30 minutes north is Deer Creek in Deerfield, fantastic track.

Join Can Am golf (its free online) and you can play Weston Hills on Friday Oct 18th for $40+ tax.

I'd pass on Heron Bay. Its not what it used to be when they played the Honda Classic.

Are you sure you want to play Crandon? That's a brutal 18. I'm usually drinking beer before the turn haha.

I know it's more of a drive than you would normally consider, but if you're coming this far, would Streamsong be a consideration? By all accounts it's among the top courses around. From Weston it's a pretty easy drive, no urban areas in between, and a rather interesting one for those who've only visited tourist areas around the state. It's a little pricier ($135 to walk) and they require caddies as well but I'm not sure if that's a per person requirement or if you can have just one for a group. It would certainly be the most unique and memorable course you could come across in FL. There are two courses, but to drive in one day you'd not likely be able to play both in one day, and the big on-site hotel accommodations aren't slated to complete until I think early next year.

Anyhow, if I were travelling that far and had a chance to play a course this different and one that has a bit of reputation as one of the top new courses to play, and not just in Florida, this place was built for the golf traveler with an ultimate golf experience in mind, then I think it would be worth at least some conversation.

Thanks guys!

THP'ers...I'd love to play a round of golf with some fellow THP'ers, so give me a shout here if you'd like to play on 17th or 18th of October in Florida, FTL area.

I played Miami CC today... wouldn't recommend it. It's not bad for a cheapish course, but I wasn't impressed overall.

Which course did you play? This used to be one of the best in town for public coursed

You already hit the nail on the head, Plantation Preserve.

Another to try is Turnberry in Aventura - its pricey though.

Just curious, why do you stay in Walton? Do you have a timeshare or some other great accommodation that I need to learn about?

I played the par 72 West Course. The course felt very dry for the most part, especially the greens. The greens couldn't hold a ball all day regardless of the shot. It's sad too since it rained so much the week before. I can't complain that much since it was $45 on a Sunday morning, but I thought it was a major step down compared to the courses I play at home near Baltimore (Pine Ridge, The Woodlands, Diamond Ridge, Compass Pointe, etc). Hopefully I can try Plantation Preserve next time. I had hoped to go Friday afternoon, but wasn't able to.
