My 3 favorites in the area, they're all vying for the #1 spot in my opinion:

Honorable Mentions:

It's not a good value, but Texas Star in Euless has a fantastic layout. I think there is a coupon on the website. Cart, range balls included with green fees I believe.

Has anyone played Bear Creek Golf Club in Dallas? I'll be down there on business next week and the vendor has set up a golf outing there, so just curious about the course.

I haven't played there. I'm supposed to some time this spring. It's just a few miles from the house.

Texas Star that Harry mentioned, is just down the road from Bear Creek if you're still in the mood to play.

There are 2 courses on that location though. They've both gotten praise from my friends that have played there. http://bearcreek-golf.com/play/the-courses/

Thanks Gummi. Unfortunately I won't be able to play more than the one round at Bear Creek. Pretty full agenda for the conference. I'm looking forward to the round though. It'll be my first round of the season.

I'll second Hawk's Creek, I play there a lot. For a couple of out of the way courses I would recommend Squaw Creek in Willow Park which has great bent grass greens and Sugar Tree in Dennis.

I have played Bear Creek several times but it has been a few years. I wasn't all that impressed with it.

Tierra Verde in Arlington is a nice course. You can usually find a coupon on their website.

You can find coupons for Water Chase also.

I like both Bear Creek tracks...East and West. There are generally some tee time deal available, as well. I've been able to play it for under $40 on w/e's. Lots of trees, good elevation changes, water, decent greens.

Bear Creek Specials This requires that you register to get the coupon. $35 weekday..$39 w/e incl. cart, gps, anytime

Thanks spin. Wish I could play more than the one round at Bear Creek. It sounds like their are several nice courses in the area.

Thanks static. I did see they had several discounts and the such. Luckily I don't have to worry about it, as the vendor is picking up the tab for the round, as well as rental clubs. Pretty sweet deal. All I have to do is show up, ha.

I will be in town next week and have time for one round. I want to play some where memorable that's a good example of golf in the area. I don't mind a higher green fee so long as it's worth it, but am more interested in playing one of the better courses in the area with a great design. Where should I play?

You will get all kind of answers but My top 3 would be

Cowboys Golf
The Tribute
Texas Star

Those three are all public.

If you don't mind paying, and want a great experience, take a look at Cowboys in Grapevine (near DFW airport)

Tangle Ridge down near Cedar Hill is a fantastic course

The Tribute up in The Colony is neat, there are two courses there. One is famous holes from British Open courses, and thr other is a native courses.

Go to Cowboys. The course, experience, and service will meet what you are seeking I believe.

1. Cowboys

2. Castle Hills

3. Texas Star

4. Tribute/Old American (next to each other)

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. Really helpful. I'm actually getting a little ambitious and am trying to get in 36 on two different courses because of all the great options I'm seeing down there.

Quick question: anyone have thoughts on Cedar Crest? I see it's a public course designed by Tilinghast and looks to still be in good shape.

One more: how hard is it to get on Brook Hollow? I have no connections other than my pro calling down there for reciprocity, so figured I couldn't pull off Colonial that way.

Cowboys had a tourney going, so I played Old American (36 holes didn't work out). I really enjoyed the course. It's a great design, the staff were awesome, and at least 5 groups of foursomes waived me through without thinking about it, finishing my round in a little under 3 hours. Definitely worth the green fee. Thanks all for the suggestions and if I get back down here and have more time on my hands, hopefully I can tee it up with some of you.
