Bridgestone Golf - Welcome To The 2014 Morgan Cup

The variable sole on the J40 wedges allow you to open the face for those short sided soft shots. I have played a two wedge set up for years. If you use a 58 or 60 more than twice a round I'd be surprised

Freddie is very wise. I played a 50 and 54 last year. Some guys questioned me not having a 58. I was able to get the ball up and out of the side of those 6 ft tall bunkers with that 54 all day. J40 wedges are very versatile.

Love that setup BTW Freddie.

Proof that the 54 can get up. Opened the face for this shot, put us 8 feet away to save par. One of my best shots of the weekend.

I don't know if I could pull off a 54*. Maybe a 56*.
How far do you hit your 56?
the j40's were the first wedge that had me thinking of going back to a 2 wedge setup because of that reason.
I'm glad I'll be able to continue that setup in 2014

I love that you did that. Your first new set of club and you went aggressive. Letting the club sine through as it was designed

I have a 52*, 58* right now. 58* around 110-115 I guess.

I know you have game so I'm not worried about your setup. But you have big gaps at the bottom of the bag. Does it ever effect you?

As someone who can have a week or two where my 58 goes 110-115 as well... No. Just don't lay up to anything less than that unless the half yardage swing felt good that day.

Although I'm curious if I'm one of the few that do that or if that's a standard thought

U and me both...u saw it first hand at the mc

Quick question....do you think 3 wedge set ups are over done? Meaning people carry to many wedges to make up for short game deficiencies?

I think people feel the need to carry 3 wedges. Especially a higher lofted one. I wouldn't say they were wrong to do so, but I think there are times where another club in place of that third wedge may be more useful.

IMO, three wedges are very reasonable.

I use the 58 exclusively for pitch shots and bunker shots around the green, but I also use it for a 90-95 yard approach.

I use the 54 for 105-110 approach shots, some pitches, bunker shots and chips.

I use the 50 primarily for approach shots (120), and I also use it a lot for chipping. I don't use it for pitches or out of the sand. The 50 was a recent addition in 2013, and it really filled a gap between my PW (135) and 54 (110). Chipping was a nice bonus.

Each wedge has multiple purposes for me. I don't think any of them are overdoing it. If any of them was a "one note" club, I would reassess.

My 60* wedge is easily the most used club in my bag in any given round. I find the sole on the J40's allows me to close or especially open the face at will to create the desired shot.
As far as 3 wedges being too many I'll have to disagree, at least for my game. For starters, I don't consider the PW a wedge...it's a 10-iron.
My 60 is used for the 90-95 yard full swing and everything under 50 yards. My 56 is used for 100-105 full swing and every long bunker shot or shot where I need to release to a back pin. The 52 is used for the 113-120 full swing and pitches of 50-90 yards.

Sorry I shouldn't of posted that question in this thread.... We need to keep the conversation on the track....

Yes I do. Modern wedges allow you to pare back to two and open as needed. I think people over use their 60* and use in the wrong way.

I'd be willing to bet if 58 and 60 were removed hdcps would lower

J40 wedges allow you to not carry three wedges. Opening a 54 or 56 is more than enough

Not really. I used to have a 50, 55, 60 setup but dropped one to open up a slot at the other end of my bag. It me a while to adjust, but I've spent some time on the range dialing in my control with the 3/4 type swings.

I'm pondering a 53/58 or 52/56 setup.

Completely agree with you Freddie. I have a 52, 56 and 60 J40 and I could easily get rid of the 60 and not miss it. I love that about the variable sole of the J40 wedges.

I agree with this. But I also think there's far less reason on average to carry an extra long club because we might encounter just one time per round where we need a specific number like 220 (and more often than not we can course manage around that particular number). I like having the extra wedge because it allows me to cover a larger number of specific distances with Pelz swings.

I think its a fine question as many Bridgestone staffers are probably wondering about dropping a wedge from the bag.

So I was browsing the bridgestone website again when a little chat box popped up asking if I wanted to chat with a b-fit specialist. After hearing the positive experience Johnny Mojo had, I thought why not? I actually got the same guy that Johnny did, and started talking about the MC and their fitting philosophy, which makes a ton of sense. He said they focus on the ball, club head, and shaft all together, since all three will impact the ball flight. They start with the ball since it is used on every single shot, then look at club head, and finally shaft options to optimize the ball flight. Really just makes sense, and got me even more excited to be fit with Bridgestone clubs because I know in the end I will have a ball and clubs that perfectly match my game.

Were you able to get fit into a ball or are you even at that point yet?

I'm a ways away from that point yet. I don't have any LM numbers or anything to go off of; I've done their simple fit and was put into the B330, but I won't go with anything until I get numbers to back it up.

I did ask if they had any fitters in my area, and they said they mostly use the "test drive" program, so it sounds like I'll be using that in the spring along with trying to find other THPers with J40 clubs.

Regarding the ball to play, even after a fitting I still think there's value in playing a sleeve of different options to confirm what you want to game full time.

It was a bit of a close call for me between the RX and the RXS. I went with the former for the Vegas event. I recently tried a sleeve of the RXS and like them better. Over and above that, I still really like the e6 too.

Elliot was a pleasure to talk to for sure and Bridgestone is excited to be involved with MC 2014.

Shoot me a PM and I would be happy to send you a sleeve of B330 to test on the course.
