Wilson Staff C200 Irons Review Thread

Questions for the testers.

The feedback about distance and forgiveness has stood out to me so far. I'm curious to hear more about this club as a Crossover offering. What other characteristics do the clubs offer that put this in the Crossover category? How are those working out for you? How is feel? Sound? Can you flight the ball and shape shots? Is this really a Crossover club or is it a Distance club dressed in GI clothes? Thanks!

The feel is really really good. Very responsive. The sound is actually really good as well. As far as shaping shots go, I tend to hit quite a healthy draw at times, but with these I really struggle hitting even a slight draw.

Hearing that these are high launching definitely peaks my interest. I wonder if getting the ball higher would help me hold more greens, and in turn, lead to lower scores. More distance + more GIR = lower numbers on the scorecard???

That's what I think is going to help me a lot - hitting a nice high trajectory so the ball comes down more vertical and hopefully with much less rollout. If that's the case, once you get distances dialed in you should be able to really up GIRs and start out with shorter putts too

Are you still playing the Tour 90 in yours?

Have any of you guys found that you needed a lower launching iron shaft than normal to keep the flight down? Or maybe another way of putting it, is the fact that these launch nice and high causing issues for anybody?

Others are in a craze about the height but personally I would like to lower it down just a tad. They cut through the high air nicely but gotta be realistic, on a day of 5+ mph wind with gusts, launching these above the tree line as easy as they do, just introduces another factor to play in to your game for that round.

With me not being a high spin iron player, the thought of a higher ball flight has me very interested in these beauties.
I also like the looks of the FlexFace slots. I didn't think so at first, but the more photos I see of these, the more I like their looks.
Now for summer to come !

I'm in the market to buy a new set of irons right now and based on the reviews I'm definitely going to check them out. I've never really even considered Wilson clubs before but the looks of these just blow me away. These are probably the best looking clubs going IMO. Now I just need to figure out where to find them. The last time I was in my LGS there was not a Wilson club to be found. I'll be going back on Friday to see if they have a set I can try out.

I could do without the slots since they would probably get full of dirt and mud but the irons over all look nice and beefy and solid.

I love the looks of these irons. From the pictures, it appears that they have a similar shape to what I have been playing for the last 20 years, my Ping Eye 2's. I love my Pings, but have been thinking more and more about moving on from them. These are exactly the kind of irons that would be among the first I would test. Based on the reviews, the performance is there in the opinions of most THPers, which is what you would expect from a company with a solid reputation and track record like Wilson.

They have not had a piece of "dirt/grass" stuck in them since I started playing them.

That was my first thought at well, but they are so tightly sealed, I cannot imagine anything getting stuck in there.

maybe the testers can chime in on that, but I thought the slots where filled so I dont think it would be an issue

I just read through this thread for the first time and wanted to say great job on the reviews fellas. Very detailed and informative. While I'm not really in the market for this type of iron I will definitely be checking them out at a local store just to see what the hype is about.

I love the look of the irons and am even more jealous (is that possible?!) of the testers that got the royal treatment back in October. They have a similar look to the midsize Maxfli Revolutions that I've played for years. I'd love to get my hands on a set. @Borss: The slots are filled in, so they won't get full of dirt and mud.

I like tho looks of these, I doubt the power holes would distract me, I have heard they are not bad at all.

I would give these a swing.
And would love to try the Aldila shafts!

Getting dealers on board right now is the key for Wilson. Without product placement this is a lot nothing.

At #StaffProto they talked about this. They have a plan to address this.

Nope, it's not been an issue at all. The power holes are filled with a urethane insert that is flush with the iron, so no gapping and no spaces to collect debris.

Hey I just want to thank all of you for all your questions and blowing this forum up. As a result I got no work done yesterday. No sleep last night. I will most likely get no work done today either! This is fun! Feel like I'm on a post round conference.

Having only seen pictures thus far (still really excited for an in-person view), I LOVE the look of these irons. I've actually wondered if the urethane fill on the power holes couldn't serve as a type of alignment aid on the longer irons where they're more visible. As at least one person mentioned previously, I really like the milled look in the cavity, and the badging is attractive and noticeable without being overbearing or gaudy. Really exciting things coming out from Wilson Staff these days, and I'd really like a chance to hit these in the near future.

Mine have cleaned just as easy as any others in the past. In fact I played in some pretty wet conditions in the late fall and these things still look brand new. The slots are flush. This isn't an issue.

Good to know

From what I can see from the pics the looks of these clubs they look like a heavy solid club, Coloring is great. If I had a set of these I'd be #THPCallOut Rusty Casino, same equipment, no excuses (when the weather agrees with us).

As per my review, the best part of these clubs is the feel and sound. That's what I give it the highest marks on. If there is one club that is s crossover, it's this one. The distance and forgiveness of a "D" club combined with the feel and look of an "F" club. Working the ball is no problem.

Done. I'll even phone the R&D team at W/S after our round as you'll want to purchase mine on the spot.

I think I can safely say yours has too many 'air miles' on them now :act-up:
