I am a member at a Semi-Private Club and own a home on the course. My 13 year old daughter is a Jr. golfer and I have been preparing her for tournaments around the state next month. I am a 14 handicap and she is a 10. We usually tee off in the morning and play in 2.5 to 3 hours. We hit fairways and play fast.

So today we are playing in the afternoon which is when the non members are usually on the course. I hate slow play. We start off the day with a foursome of 3 old women and a man in front of us. There is then a foursome of 2 men and 2 women that hit into us because the people in front of us are slow. After the second hole I had enough of the people in front of us and skip ahead to hole 4. No one was in front of the foursome so we gave a friendly wave and drove by. We played pretty fast then until we got to hole 7. Old guy was terrible and kept throwing balls out of his pocket until he hit a good shot.

I was hoping to make the turn and get in front of them but it didn't happen. I got up to the tee and said the heck with this. We drove around the 3 groups in front of us to go to number 12 and play. Wasn't like I was asking to play through. I was moving ahead of the slow pace of the 3 groups in front of us. We were going to circle back around and play 10 and 11 last.

We passed a group on number 11 that was putting on the green. We drove on number 12 and the group approaches. 3 men and 1 woman. One of the guys says "What he he11 are you doing?" I answered "We are skipping holes to get in front of the slow pace." They weren't members and then started in. Guy says "That is rude. You didn't even ask." I said, "Why do I have to ask? I am a member here and am the one skipping holes. We play fast and will be 2 holes ahead of you in no time." His buddy says, "You are a Fing Ahole." His buddy says, "I am calling the pro shop and telling the pro what an Ahole you are." I said "Great, tell them to send the ranger out to speed your group up while you are at it."

I then drive off and start to think about how I wanted to handle this. I was pissed off that they were cursing and dropped the Fbomb in front of my 13 year old daughter. So, I went and pick our balls up and drove back to the tee box where they at. Of course the one guy was on his phone to the pro shop. I got out of the cart and walked up to the guy who dropped the Fbomb. Let me preface the rest by saying I can hold my own. I am only 6'4" 280 lbs. So I get out walked walked up to this guy and he already starts backing away. I said to him "I am sorry if you think I am rude. I just want to apologize to you." I then pointed my finger directly into his chest. I said "But I have a problem with you cursing and throwing the FBomb in front of my 13 year old daughter. I live right over there. I am going to take her home and then drive up to the pro shop and let them know what is going to happen. When I am done talking to the pro I am going to come back out here and kick all 3 of your a$$es." All three then had nothing to say and started to back up.

I stayed calm the entire time. I drove up to talk to the Pro and told my kid to stay in the cart. I told him what was going on and that I was taking my daughter home. I was then going to drive out and find them on the course and whip their a$$es. He said "Holy cow. I know the guys you are talking about. They are arrogant pr1cks. Please don't go back out there. I will drive out now and tell them they aren't welcomed here anymore."

To this point I am still fired up. These 3 turds ruined a great afternoon of golf. I was at a 43 at that point and my daughter was at 44. We went and played the front 9 again because it was empty. But man did that ruin the golf for the rest of the day. Although, my drive on the next we played of the incident went 300 because my adrenaline was pumping so much.

I am speechless! WOW! Some people. Sorry

Not cool.

But also not cool.

I see no problem skipping holes as long as any group you're passing isn't waiting on you so, IMO, you should've went one hole further. Also, I don't see how dropping F-bombs in front of your daughter is worse than you threatening to whip their asses. Just a bad situation all the way around. Forget about it and enjoy your next outing.

Well I don't think either party handled the situation well.

That comment about sending out the ranger made me laugh, that was smooth. I understand you not wanting people to curse around your daughter but at the same time what sort of example does fighting set? Not saying you did anything wrong, you were in the situation not me. I am not parent but I guess my point is two wrongs don't make a right!

I've been on the other end sort of. I wasn't being rude like they were but I accidentally hit near someone kids out of a bunker and the father freaked out, I yelled four and started going over to apologize but he decided to be a total prick.

Man that sucks. I have had to do the same thing from time to time at the course where I am a member. Sometimes you run into those guys and it sucks. I don't see it as a problem since they still get to golf the whole course but I guess some people just don't care for it.

Good for you though for handling it calmly and not doing anything to drastic. I agree with you that dropping f-bombs in front of children is uncalled for and glad you called them out on it. Hopefully there will be no more problems.

Good luck to your daughter in her tournaments!

Seriously? You were going to get in a fight on a golf course?

Why can't we all just get along a play golf? We're all the course for the same reason.

I dislike slow play as well, but you cant expect 4-somes to keep pace with a pair. If they were playing 9 holes in 2h or less I think that is normal.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like a good situation at all. I understand you don't like slow play, but I think you should have hopped to the thirteenth hole. Everything would've been avoided.

I know if someone skipped holes to get around my group and teed off right in front of me as I was approaching the tee box I would be ticked too.

Me too. Are members of semi private courses supposed to have the run of the place? Is this normal?

Here here, nice job, some people need to be put in their place.

Wait you were tired of it after two holes? You picked up your ball and went back to the tee box. Then you were going to play a few holes and circle back to play the ones you missed. Sounds like someone feels very entitled at a semi-private course. On their side I don't think they should have been cussing infront of your daughter.

I wonder if any of the groups ahead of you played in 4 hours or less.

I understand being upset about the cursing, but what lesson was taught to your daughter? All I'm saying

isn't this why they invented ice jacking and the one two piece?

Kind of agree with this just because kids were involved but I see why you stood up to them. Bad situation all around. I would have just bet them $50 a hole each that your kiddo could beat them on the rest of the holes as long as they gave up a stroke a hole. But then that wouldn't have been a good lesson either. But would have been awesome none the less. Sorry that happened to you.

Read this to my wife and she said it sounds like something I'd do.:act-up: That being said I won't judge but sometimes being the bigger person is best. Sounds like your daughter has a great career in front of her. Best of luck to both of you.

You know, I had 3 paragraphs written out before I decided to just delete them. Have a nice day.

I have a couple problems with this. First those guys were wrong for dropping the Fbomb in front of your daughter and the woman that was playing with them. Second I do not care if you are member or not they payed to play and you should have asked to go infront of them and not answered in the smug way you did. Third you were wrong for going back to confront the guys and if you had come back at me and my friends like that we would have taken you up on your challenge. Personally the way you answered those guys would have pissed me off if I was playing. The way you worded it made you sound like a pumps country club a**

Yup. I get getting mad about them cussing in front of your daughter, but you were just as much of a jerk for threatening to beat them up. Simple as going another hole ahead. You were circling back anyway, right? I dont like slow play as much as the next guy, but just because youre big and can afford a membership and a home on a course, doesnt mean you can boss people around, nor are better than anyone else. I admit, i do try to use my size to scare people sometimes, but only when they are being complete d!cks. And i've never been in a fight, and quite scared to get into one, so i wouldnt go as far as threatening to beat someone up, lol.

i hate slow play when they wont let you go ahead of them. if i pull up to the tee box and they dont offer to let me thru. ill do that one more time then ask to go thru. if that dont work and there rude about it. depending on how bad of a day im having they may risk the shag bag coming out.
