Best Public Course In Your State

I don't know many courses in the state outside of Nova and a couple popular and Ive only played one of these but Royal New Kent, Kingsmill and Raspberry Falls come to mind.

Kingsmill River Course is really close with Spring Creek. New Kent is awesome for the experience but it's not in great shape.

Bethpage Black or Trump Ferry Point.

I think most lists will probably say Chambers Bay, but I'm going with Gamble Sands.

My favorite I've played is Gold Mountain Olympic.

I really like the look of DMK courses. Can't wait for Sand Valley #2 to open in a few years.

TPC Sawgrass currently. When I lived in VA I'd go with Golden Horseshoe Gold course. Growing up in MD Rum Pointe was the best of the best.

This is the Golfweek 2015 list. I haven't played ACCC (or 4, 6, 8, or 10) so I can't comment on those, but I would add another vote to Ballyowen as #1 for me. Neshanic and Architects are next, followed closely by Royce Brook (East) and Wild Turkey. There's something good in Boonton? Devrickus, please defend this!

(m) - modern course; (c) - classic course; * - new to list

 • 1. Atlantic City CC, Northfield (c)
 • 2. Crystal Springs Resort (Ballyowen), Hamburg (m)
 • 3. Twisted Dune, Egg Harbor Township (m)
 • 4. Shore Gate, Ocean View (m)
 • 5. Neshanic Valley, Neshanic Station (m)
 • 6. Ballamor GC, Egg Harbor Township (m)
 • 7. Architects GC, Lopatcong (m)
 • 8. Knoll GC (West), Boonton (c)*
 • 9. Crystal Springs Resort (Wild Turkey), Hamburg (m)
 • 10. Sand Barrens GC, Swainton (m)

Old Kinderhook, or The Ridge at the Lodge of the Four Seasons

This list looks pretty good to me for New York. Only 3 on the list I've played though are Shenendoah (Turning Stone), Ravenwood and Seneca Hickory Stick.

1. Bethpage (Black), Farmingdale
2. Atunyote at Turning Stone, Verona
3. Pound Ridge, Pound Ridge
4. Shenendoah at Turning Stone, Verona
5. Leatherstocking, Cooperstown
6. Ravenwood, Victor
7. Kaluhyat at Turning Stone, Verona
8. Links at Hiawatha Landing, Apalachin
9. Saratoga National, Saratoga Springs
10. Montauk Downs, Montauk
11. The Sagamore, Bolton Landing
12. Seneca Hickory Stick, Lewiston
13. Conklin Players Club, Conklin
14. Seven Oaks at Colgate, Hamilton
15. Bethpage (Red), Farmingdale
16. Long Island National, Riverhead
17. Greystone, Walworth
18. Tallgrass, Shoreham
19. Mansion Ridge, Mansion Ridge, Monroe
20. Grossinger, Liberty

I've played Conklin Players Club & Links at Hiawatha - no comparison ... Conklin is far better

Buffalo Ridge is hands down my favorite MO venue. I'll always consider MI home though and from discussions here I'd probably give the nod to Arcadia Bluffs, except I've not played it YET. Of the public MI courses I've played. Timberstone, Greywalls, and Tribute (Ostego) were my favs.

I've never had the opportunity to play Sawgrass, but I wholeheartedly agree with you on Golden Horseshoe and Rum Pointe. Personally, while Kingsmill has the national recognition via professional championships, I like playing the Horseshoe much more. Rum Pointe and its sister course, Lighthouse Sound are the better venues in the OC area. Unfortunately, the Delmarva is not a State, so many of the areas better venues are in the Delaware area, so they technically are not in my State. But if they were I would give note to Baywood Greens, Bayside, the Pennisula (sp) and Bear Trap Dunes.

There are many great courses in Western Maryland as well, but I work and play mostly on the Eastern shore.

Old Kinderhook, or The Ridge at the Lodge of the Four Seasons

Have you played Buffalo Ridge since the re-design? In my opinion it is definitely superior to these two.

I would Say Pebble Beach, just need to get up there and play it.

Clear Cut #1 for me Cog Hill #4 Dubsdread and THP has been here!

TPC Deer Run
Cantigny
Highlands of Elgin (THP has been here)
Blackstone of Marengo
Bowes Creek CC

While I've never played the course, "Lake of Isles" is a casino owned course, and it's rated very high in CT. While it is technically a public course, its supposedly nicer than some of the high end private courses in the State.

Have to spread the word.... The greens are top 5....

Wisconsin is going to be a public golf monster in 10 years!

Shaker has been downhill for a long time. Isnt even worthy of top 20 now. For me its either longaberger or boulder

Except Longaberger is called "The Virtues Golf Club" now, right? I'd say that or Boulder Creek.

In Washington state :

1. Chambers Bay
2. Wine Valley
3. Gold Mountain

Some will say Gamble Sands, but when I played it, I was not all that impressed.

I will say that the ratings here are strictly my own opinion of the courses I have played in my home state.

I'd have to think it's Bethpage Black.

Would I be a bit biased if I said Bethpage?

For me it might be The Ranch

I really enjoyed that place, will be getting back there in '16. Red Tail was really good too. Not sure which one I like better, maybe The Ranch because of some of the elevation and fantastic greens.

Red Tail was great. They are really close. Whenever your ready for a trip to The Ranch you know where to find me

I'm not even going to see what others might have offered for Georgia, because this one wins.
The course(s) might not be the best (if they aren't they are within .00003% of being so) but the grounds, the location, the staff, the amenities, everything about the place is 100% top notch.

How many of these can I play if I come to Abilene for a month later this year, possibly early '17?

One of the best courses is not even on the list. It's The Cliff 's at possum kingdom lake. Not to far from Abilene.

Although I have not played every course on that list, my favorite is Black Jacks Crossing. There is just something special about that course. There are just to many in Texas to choose from for there to be a #1 that all can agree on.

A lot of good ones, but for me, IMO the best is Conestoga Golf Course in Mesquite...Wolf Creek 1A.
