Corona Virus/COVID19: Local Impact

We have a local institution called McMenamins. It’s a local brew pub restaurant place, maybe the first brew pub in the country. They just shut down all locations and laid off 3K employees so they could collect unemployment.

That’s pretty unique maybe?

Not with this administration, just like how they rushed and then recalled the initial testing kits 🤣

Well all be getting vaccines of jello

Regardless of politics though, I find it very disturbing that potentially proper testing and trials could be going on, then something shoved down our throats

After coming home from a trip to Colombia in early Jan. I became seriously ill with flu like symptoms and I had the flu shot. It was mostly in my lungs...did the doctor thing 3 times with chest xrays, etc and was deemed to have the flu. It lasted all month, my son and I went to the D.R. in early Feb. and two days into the week he went down with fever and all the fun stuff of the flu, but also had diarrhea. He was sick for about 3 weeks after we got back.

Neither one of us were ever tested for Covid 19 but I did have 3 different sets of blood work looking for a tropical disease and or anything else and my numbers were all good all the way though.

So who knows if it was a early strain of covid 19 that we recovered from, but in that period I could have infected 100's or more people and no one I know ever came down with anything.

Worse case I’m a better putter when this is all done

I’m going to do the exact same thing tomorrow, with the same set up. And thanks for reminding me to carve my kids’ wild thing, they love I making it spin.

Haha! I've tried to get rid of that thing for so long, and just when i think i can, they spend the afternoon outside having a blast.

My company shut down all four offices today and sent everyone home with either a laptop or desktop to "work from home". As a field support/troubleshooting/commissioning guy I guess for me this means some R&R at home. As I said to my boss if things continue at the rate they are we'll all be twiddling our thumbs by Friday. Sure you can work remotely but if everyone else shuts down the demand dries up.

Locally it's too early for the golf courses to be open so that's not an option. Surprisingly my gym was still open today however I declined to attend my personal training appointment (they should have been closed IMO). Good thing I have a backlog of golf magazines to read and several streaming services on my TV. I also picked up new grips which I should have lots of time to install over the next week or so.

Things got real at work today real quick. The casino I work for will be closing the doors for four weeks starting tomorrow afternoon. Fortunately for me and our team members we work for the most generous employer I have ever been associated with. The golf course almost was to remain open but ultimately it will be closed as well. :(:(:(

It seems most all SF Bay Area golf courses, public and private, are now closed.

Denver just closed all city owned courses. The only ones I see closed are city owned munis. I suspect that is coming more from the City Attorneys office than CDC guidance. Probably getting my only round in tomorrow for awhile.

My Aspen hotel contacted me today to tell me that my res is cancelled for next week. I'm relieved since it was nonrefundable and I figured that I was stuck with the loss.

My barber just canceled all his appointments. Ugh...

I'm not a doctor; it's an interesting theory to me. Maybe we're farther into this thing than we realize?

You don’t need to put the word maybe in there.

Hospitals in the Boston area, one of the best areas in the country for medical care, are already asking for donations of N95 masks because supplies are running low. This is going to be a story that is going to get bigger over the next few days, nationwide. Imagine the uproar if we sent our military into battle without proper protection? I doubt the same thing will happen in this situation though because some people don’t think this is serious.

This evening, our Board of Alderman gave the Mayor the power to close all liquor stores and discontinue all liquor and beers sales in town. She says she won’t do it but the liquor and beer stores are loving the busy evening.

I saw an article talking about current/very near shortages and it was horrific to read. I saw Suffolk was donating some, hoping some other companies that have stocks do the same. Found out today we've had at least a few presumptive cases at work, and definitely at least one on my floor. Luckily I've been out of the office for over a week, but I'm expecting a call from whoever is tracing contacts.

I feel for the local business owners - we got an email from one of our favorite places with the menu they're going to for take out/delivery, which they don't usually offer, and they were asking for people to order as much as they can. We're lucky and both of us can WFH easily and have little risk job-wise, so I'm going to try to do what I can to help the local folks as much as possible. It's not much, but least I can do I guess.

‘Non violent’ offenses to not be arrested. Includes burglary and looting. I present to you Philly...

Tucson City Golf courses remain open after proclamation today by Mayor closing restaurants (except takeout). Course restaurants will be closed except for grab and go items and you cannot congregate in course restaurants and golf pro shops.

I've seen their advertising!

I would submit that proper testing and trials will be done, just not in the traditional sequence and with limited animal modeling being done prior to human testing.... and as someone who works in the clinical research realm, that to me is a bit worrisome that our Food & Drug Administration would approve of such a development plan! But IF and its a giant IF...... if there is efficacy and patients get better, kudos to FDA for thinking outside the box....
