LPGA: SBS at Turtle Bay [spoilers forthcoming]

I thought so to WSE, but she wore a Kate Lord one at the show when she was just walking around, so I was unsure.

Yeah, I just can't tell for sure. here's another picture, but you can barely see it:

I've already deleted my DVR copies, so I can't go back and look.

Also, I like women who have T&A (mostly why Gulbis is my fav, she definetly has T, not so much A though).

Really, I'm going to lose my freaking mind. Is it THE WORLD to ask that a golf forum might stay about golf and maybe even a tiny bit lady friendly? How many times I come on these things and they straight up nauseate me. You people need a pornography/glamour shots thread or sub forum to get your frustrations out of you.

Wie haunted by her past

It was easy to identify the root of Michelle Wie's failed bid to win in her debut as a member of the LPGA on Saturday. It traces to her rush to play with the big kids (men and women), while largely abandoning junior golf in her teen years and in the process forfeiting the opportunity of learning how to win.

Wie's inability to close was frighteningly apparent in the final eight holes of the SBS Classic at Turtle Bay. She led by three with eight to play. She then double-bogeyed the 11th, missed a short birdie putt at 16, and bogeyed the 17th, while Angela Stanford birdied 13, 14 and 15. It was a six-stroke swing in an eight-hole stretch that emphatically reiterated Wie's youthful indiscretion.

What kind of absurd piece of pseudo-logic is this?

I suppose Greg Norman's prolific chokes were also caused by Wie's Norman's decision to turn pro, right? Because, as we all know, turning pro early and skipping college is a guaranteed prescription for failure...right Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel?

Haunted by her past???? She came in second! This isn't football or baseball or basketball where 50% of the competitors win and 50% of them lose on any given day. By Strege's standards, 137 players "lost", yet Wie's "loss" must have been caused by her "past mistakes", right? Wrong. Post hoc ergo propter hoc is almost never true, Strege.

I certainly don't mind discussing what Wie did wrong. But false logic like this drivel, draped in a shroud of legitimacy because it is on a golf publication's website, just drives me crazy. Did she make mistakes? Of course. But she made less of them than 136 other players. More importantly, Angela Stanford made less mistakes than Wie. Why can't there be an actual discusion of the tournament instead of everything being black or white? (Similarly, when/if Wie wins, I don't want to see and hear how it was a perfect round and how Wie is the next coming of Tiger Woods unless it's true - which it won't be.)

When is the next televised LPGA event anyway?

lpga.com isn't showing anything, and the next 3 events are not in the U.S. (Thailand, Singapore, and Mexico). I find it hard to believe that there won't be anything on TV until the Phoenix LPGA Internation, March 26-29.

I am going to call the LPGA tomorrow and ask them about that Harry.

While you are at it, could you also check on that high-paying job for me that involves hobnobbing with the players and posting on the internet? Thanks!

("Hobnobbing" is a weird word. If you are hobnobbing, would that make you a "hobnobber"? If you studied hobnobbing, would that make you an expert in the field of hobnobbery?)

You have that at THP dont you? Oh wait, you said high paying.

So just now I got off the phone with the LPGA. According to them the next televised event will be the Phoenix Open "they think". I kid you not that neither the Communications Director nor the main PR lady we deal with knew if the next few events would be on TV.

LPGA - "I do not think that we have anything coming up televised until the Phoenix. I could be wrong, but I just do not know."

THP - "Do you know of why the next few are not televised and if that could chage?"

LPGA - "I am pretty sure that our next event is the Phoenix. But we think next year we will have much more live broadcasts".

So there you have it.

Maybe we should launch an "I want my LPGA" campaign.

5 weeks until we get to see skorts women's golf again? Grrrrr.

How does the LPGA expect to gain more of an audience if they aren't showing their product? What is the golf channel, which obviously is devoted to 24 golf, showing that is more important than an actual tournament?
I know they have never showed the tournament in Mexico and before this year the first three (maybe 2) tournaments were in Hawaii. Are they refusing to show tournaments outside the US? This is absolutely ridiculous!

Here are the 2008 and 2009 LPGA Schedules for 2008 and 2009 for the same January through April time period:

2008LPGA.jpg

2009LPGA.jpg

The LPGA lost the Fields Open, which would have been played the week after the SBS, because The Fields Corporation did not renew its sponsorship. The Fields has been "replaced" by the Honda LPGA Thailand.

The following week is unchanged, with the HSBC Women's Champions in Singapore.

Next, the 2008 lists a TBA. However, like 2009, I believe that week hosted the MasterCard Classic in Mexico that Louis Friberg won. So that week is also unchanged.

For the following week, the Phoenix International has replaced the Safeway International.

(The Ginn Open is still listed on the 2009 schedule, but not on the LPGA website, which has an open date for April 16-19).

So, I guess the question is: were the Mexico and Singapore tournaments televised last year (I can't remember, but I thought the HSBC was) and if so, why aren't they on TV this year. And why isn't the LPGA Thailand on TV?

I'm willing to cut some slack on the LPGA Thailand because it looks like the final decision on the Fields Open was only made in in August. So maybe just not enough time to get everything ready for the replacement tournament. (I'm not sure when the LPGA Thailand was finalized. However, it was played in 2006 and 2007 - in October, but not 2008. I'm not sure what that is about.)

But why not the HSBC Women's Champions in Singapore? And why not the MasterCard Classic in Mexico

HSBC was televised, Mexico wasn't.

HSBC was televised, Mexico wasn't.

That was my recollection as well. So why has the HSBC been dropped?

Since the LPGA is still under the old business model, it must have chosen not to buy TV time.

I checked the 2009 field, and it looks like their are some big names attending including Lorena Ochoa, Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis, Suzann Pettersen, Morgan Pressel, Christina Kim, Vicky Hurst, and Juli Inkster. (I know there are other good players in the field, but I'm just highlighting the ones that are likely known by the more casual fan.)

As far as attracting an audience (and ad sales), isn't it more the players than the location (except with majors and other special venues with historical significance.)?

Check out Vicky. Wearing a 59 Belt. Those ain't cheap.

Word is she was wearing a Blingo during one of her GC interviews during the tournament, but I couldn't find a picture. The one in this picture isn't highly enough resolved for me to tell.

Totally agree with you, I can not understand why they aren't televising either of these tournaments. They have never shown the Mexico tournament which has always bothered me. But in years past they have always showed the HSBC, I think because of the big field. They need all the exposure they can get and not broadcasting tournaments is not a good way to do this. Especially after the hype of the first tournament, they need to ride the publicity they have right now. To not have another tournament on TV for a month is a huge mistake.

Could not agree more. Especially with Tiger returning.

I still do not understand the scheduling to have the season open up and then take a week off. I know sponsors are few and far between right now, but its the beginning of the season. As for not televising the events, it is because of a couple of reasons, most pertaining to cost.
1. The cost to go over to cover the event is very high.
2. But minimally could have been covered by tv ads. I was told that they just could not get the ad revenue needed to televise it.

Its a shame really but I think the future could still be bright especially with a few of these youngsters coming up.

JB - There was a 2nd event in Hawaii that followed the SBS. It was called the Fields Open. It only ran a couple of years I think. Anyway, 2008 was the final time for that tourney. Paula Creamer won it. No sponsor was forthcoming, so the result was a whole in the schedule. :bad:
