Its hard where that stadium is for the people in much of Tampa to get there during the weeknights. This is a very spread out area. But I agree.

Its the same out here as well, it can take me 2 hours to get to a game, with us its more traffic though. If they keep this up this season the extra attendance might help them to keep either Crawford or Pena.

JB, before you get like others and start to celebrate a world series title in Tampa Bay, let me remind you that as I look at the standings the big bad boys from the Bronx are 1/2 a game out as I type this. :D

I didn't want to state the inevitable. :D

If Vazquez could ever get back on track, the Yankees rotation would be SICK. Hughes 3-0, 1.44 ERA | Burnet 4-0, 1.99 ERA | Pettitte 4-0, 2.08 ERA | Sabathia 4-1, 2.74 ERA
Then you got Vazquez... who SUCKS. 1-3, 9.78 ERA.

You know you trade for a guy and ask him to do one simple thing and that's to eat innings. I don't even care about his W/L (he could be 0-0 for all i care) all we ask is to keep your ERA at a respectable level and give the pen a rest. I guess certain people just can't handle the Bronx.

yeah the lack of fan suport is sad, but like JB said the Trop is not in a very good spot or neighborhood. not to mention the place is, well a dump. a nice open air staduim with some kind of retractable roof with about 35-40k capacitiy somewhere in Tampa not St. Pete is probably their only hope of this team not being the Las Vegas Rays in 3-5 years

We dont want Pena. None of the fans do. He whiffs too much. CC wants ridiculous money, and deserves it, but we are hoping for a home town discount.

I dont think they will win the whole thing, but they are competing again with a team that has 2-3 players that make up their entire payroll. It wont last for many years, but its nice to have while we can. In any other division in baseball, they would be running away with wins the last 3 years.

Ummm, people said the same thing 2 years ago. Its not inevitable....Likely maybe, but you are BEHIND us right now.

pretty sure none crowned them champs yet but no reason to not get excited about the team you root for doing well now is there?

agreed on Pena way too many K's and usually only hits .240- to .250 trade him and get what you can. good guy just all or nothing bat

I'll get excited... I'm always psyched to see the locals get all yoked up. Hey, if the Rays and Yanks are in, guess who's not invited to the dance and that's something I'm all for.

the Red Sux!

Kind of like 2 years ago...Oh wait, that was the Yanks out. THen last year it was the Rays out. Its hard when you have had the 3 best teams in baseball (arguably) over the last 3 years in the same division.

Wow what a busy day on this thread. I sure missed alot of well, nothing. Same old thing here, Nike spouting off and everyone else trying to explain the facts to him. I am not going to take the time to respond to each post I will simply just add one comment to cover everything I feel about the discussion.

I'm sorry but what facts have I miscontrued?

Keep in mind, I'm certainly not the only one who feels about it the way I do.

Oh, and nice sweep of the Tigers today Twins. I believe you have to put the Twins right behind the Rays as the hottest team in the AL?

No?

I was really talking about the Jays and O's but hey if you want to bring the Sox into the discussion. :D
You know they don't look so hot this year, but of course it's early and Wakefield is still warming up so we'll see.

We said to everybody LEAVE IT ALONE. We are back talking about actual baseball in the baseball thread. ENOUGH.

Nope :nono: The Twins have a worse record than the Yankees so the facts simply state the Yankees are a hotter team as I type this. Tomorrow might be a different answer to your question but right now I am sticking with no as my answer.

Half a game difference and both on a four game winning streak, but I won't argue which one is hotter. :act-up:

And how bad is the A.L. West right now? Uggghh.

The AL East right now is simply on fire. The division is scary good.

except for B-More which is well B-More. good to see the Jays in front of the Saux too! how bout them Rays!

A few on here have met my friend Tim that is a captain for Delta for the last 25 years. He just told me that he is flying the Yankees to Detroit tonight. I told him to give them a nice rough ride.

tell him to drop the oxygen masks at 33,000 and watch how fast grown men start squealing like little girls

Dallas Braden throws perfect game

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Dallas Braden definitely owns the mound now.

Braden pitched the 19th perfect game in major league history on Sunday, shutting down the majors' hottest team and leading the Oakland Athletics to a 4-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Braden threw his arms in the air after Gabe Kapler grounded out to shortstop for the final out, his simmering feud with Yankees star Alex Rodriguez merely a footnote to the first perfect game for Oakland in 42 years.

The closest the Rays got to a hit was Jason Bartlett's liner to third leading off the game. Evan Longoria tried to bunt against Braden leading off the fifth, drawing boos from the small crowd.

"It's without a doubt a team effort,'' Braden said. "You got eight guys out there chasing balls and knocking balls down for me. So this is ours, not just mine, this is ours.''

Before this gem, Braden was best known for his enraged reaction to Rodriguez walking across the mound back on April 22, when he beat Yankees ace CC Sabathia. He screamed at A-Rod after the incident and was still angry after the game, advising the slugger "to go do laps in the bullpen'' if he wanted to run across the mound. The squabble was still making news leading up this start, and they were going back and forth in recent days. On Friday in Boston, Rodriguez said he didn't want ``to extend his extra 15 minutes of fame.''

He struck a far more conciliatory tone Sunday.

"I've learned in my career that it's always better to be remembered for some of the good things you do on the field, and good for him,'' Rodriguez said before facing Boston. "He threw a perfect game. And, even better, he beat the Rays.''

It was the majors' first perfect game since Mark Buehrle did it for the White Sox against the Rays on July 23, and the second no-hitter this season after Colorado's Ubaldo Jimenez pulled it off in Atlanta on April 17. Braden pitched the A's first perfect game since Hall of Famer Jim "Catfish'' Hunter's gem on May 8, 1968, against the Minnesota Twins. Only 6,298 were there to witness it. Sunday's crowd at the Coliseum wasn't much better: 12,228.

Braden (4-2) wasn't fazed by anything, throwing two-strike changeups and getting quick outs against a Rays team that lost on the road for just the third time this year. He struck out six in the 109-pitch performance, throwing 77 strikes in his 53rd career start and first complete game.

Braden's teammates mobbed him when the Mother's Day masterpiece was over, leaving bats and gloves scattered on the field. The left-hander pointed to the sky in honor of his mom, Jodie Atwood, who died of cancer when he was a high school senior. He shared a long and tearful hug with his grandma, Peggy Lindsey, the woman who raised him, in front of the dugout.

"It hasn't been a joyous day for me in a while,'' Braden said. "With my Grandma in the stands it makes it a lot better.''

Braden's perfect game was the sixth no-hitter in Oakland history. The 26-year-old Braden, a native of nearby Stockton, was a 24th-round draft pick by the A's in 2004. Last Mother's Day, Braden was hit by a line drive by Vernon Wells.

"You know, a year later you don't expect anything like this,'' he said. "I'm just happy to be putting on the costume a year later.''

The A's defense didn't even have to make a really tough play in fair territory. Third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff sprinted to the dirt in front of Oakland's dugout to catch a foul popup by Dioner Navarro for the second out in the sixth. Kapler then fouled out on a 12-pitch at-bat on another ball caught by Kouzmanoff. Navarro fouled off five straight pitches before the popup.

Landon Powell — who caught the game with regular catcher Kurt Suzuki injured — Kouzmanoff and Ryan Sweeney each singled in runs for the A's, who added two unearned runs in the fourth after catcher Navarro's throwing error. Daric Barton had three hits and scored twice for Oakland. James Shields (4-1) failed to beat the A's for the second time in 12 days after striking out 12 in a 10-3 win April 28.

That's a great story.

Good for him.

Shutting out the Rays is hard to do, but a perfect game?? That is a great effort against a very strong hot team.

Shutting out the Rays!!! So awesome!! The BF and I almost saw a perfect game, also with an A's pitcher in Oakland against the Angels last year. He had a perfect game until the 8th :( Brett Anderson last July!!
