I voted for under $99 because that’s the canned answer. But we all know that is not always the case. I remember when $99 was high and $79.99 was the norm. Oh how times have changed.

Based on current 2018 MSRP prices, anything under $129 would be considered cheap putter range as far as cost.

When you start talking about materials used, innovation, and craftsmanship, anything under $250 nowadays would be considered cheap IMO. Since feel, looks, and distance control are enhanced greatly when you go above the $250 mark.

The funny thing is, I’ve rolled $450 putters that don’t feel or perform any better than a $375 putter. This is where the cost of R&D and materials comes into play I would think.

Bottom line is, cheap putters are going to be different for everyone. It’s what looks, feels, or rolls the rock the best for you.

I'm not sure if I buy that you need to hit the $250 mark to get any improvements in distance control or feel. Looks maybe, depending on what your aesthetic is. The PING lines have always been great performers in a lower price range, and the OWorks putters, which I find about as good as you can get in terms of distance control are under that number too.

This is what I would call a "cheap" putter

You can get a Stainless Anser (same model Tiger used before he went pro) for a dime a dozen on the 'Bay. One of the softest, fantastic feeling, most plagiarized putters ever made.

Though I realize it's about literally new (in the stores) putters. Even some of them, today, are pretty decent.
