Would you join Augusta?

They'd have to let me wear overalls and carpenter shorts but heck yea. :thumb:

I wouldn't. There are a lot of other things I could buy that are better than being a member there.

Marc,

Who do I send the check too?

I think I would, but only if I could afford a membership somewhere else I could play all year as well.

Man I would love to just play there one time...

Being a member at Augusta would be awesome, however for me I don't think it would be something I would want to be in for the long haul. The politics alone would get to me. I know they are somewhat loosening up the by-laws and membership requirements. Now don't get me wrong, I would be all over playing Augusta once or twice with a member.

I'd join w/ no hesitations..even though they discriminate against me cuz I'm middle class

YABBA DABBA DOOOOOOO

not cause your middle class, species confused maybe, quoting a caveman ( fred flinstone) as underdog?.........am so confused.....lol

Would like to play there once or twice but joining would be a complete waste of time and money for me. I don't believe I would fit in there and would not be willing to change my personality or lifestyle to fit in with the Augusta crowd. I am not going to change who I am and doubt that an open minded Skoal dipping, beer drinking boy from south GA would be welcomed with open arms into Augusta. I would however like to be invited to join just so I could gracefully turn them down in honor of all the people they have discriminated against in the past, present and future.

I'd join in a heartbeat. I wouldn't care if I would be seen as a bad person, Augusta National is Augusta National and I would never say no to the mecca of golf. Plus, change is made from the inside, not the outside.

I'd love to see them host an LPGA event. It'd be so awesome. But, they wouldn't do it as just another tourney and the LPGA already has 5 majors.

I can't remember where I read it. But someone from one of those golf magazines was pushing for Augusta to host the 2018(?) Women's US Open. That would be interesting. It certainly wouldn't be a traditional US Open setup, but it would be fun to watch.

I was thinking about the are you Augusta material thread and was thinking, does Augusta meet your requirements? Sure it's exclusive, it has pristine conditions, the practice area is world class, but they still discriminate. Yeah they elected their first female member but only when they came under enormous pressure to do so (IBM).

Would you support Augusta even though they still discriminate? My feeling is if they still judge 1 they still judge many and I'd bow out.

Nope. No interest in being a member at a course with the stuffy, uptight policies and short playing season of Augusta. Just not my style. I'm less bothered by the perceived discrimination than I am by the general set of rules. I prefer a bit more personal freedom than they allow.

I dont see how you couldnt join.... even just to say you were a member and play there once or twice would be somethign that most people would never have the opportunity to say

I agree with the OP. I don't think I would join. I know that sounds nuts but it's my feeling.

If given an invitation to join Augusta National, I would do so immediately. I genuinely understand the position of some regarding their restrictive memberships. But as others have stated, they are not a public accomodation, rather a private club. From my perspective, during the Burke protests, Augusta stood for and protected the right to free association and assembly. While the exercise of that right may be inappropriate in the views of many, it is still a right that must be protected and accepted.

However, and perhaps more importantly, if I had the opportunity to join Augusta and I didn't my golfing buddies would crucify me. If my buds could play Augusta as my guest and I didn't make sure that happened, perhaps we should discuss gun control instead.

I have no problem with the AGNC rules and restrictions. It's a private club that fiercely protects its history and heritage. I'd join in a heartbeat.

If I ever get in I'm coming back to this thread and inviting all the 'yes' votes. We will smoke cigars lit by $100 bills and talk about how great it is not having our style cramped with a bunch of chicks hanging around getting up in our business.

Is there a "post of the day" feature?

even me? #awesome

I will invite and cancel last minute ddec. The guards will politely escort you off the property.

I'd join. Just got back from two days on the course and once again spent several hours behind the ropes with members. Everyone was gracious and hospitable. I also know two members personally and interact with their families on a daily/weekly basis in my everyday life. They're incredible people who will go out of their way for people regardless of gender/race/socio-economic differences. I also love to hear stories about their passion for golf. I can't imagine having an opportunity to play at the most beautiful piece of property I've ever seen and also have the opportunity to invite family/friends to enjoy it as well.

that sounds about right. Please leave a cigar at the main gate

I doubt they would want me, but if they did I'd join with a clear conscience.
