I am looking at getting a Callaway FT Tour but I can't decide whether to get the XVS6 or 7. Other than the obvious (dead weight) what else will the shaft weight affect? I am looking for things in Laymans terms I suppose, as I would assume it would affect dead weight and swingweight. Holding the clubs together I can feel the 8 gram difference slightly but swinging the club they feel the same. I don't really have anyone I trust locally so any help would be greatly appreciated, as you guys have always been honest and very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Most of the time heavier weight helps control one's tempo and should lower one's launch a touch with spin be lower as well

Awesome thanks a lot guys I appreciate it.

jrod, i tested the ft tour with both shafts and i must say that the xvs7 was fantastic for me. it offered a slightly lower flight but it was a missile. i've always battled a bit of a fade off the tee and never thought that i would enjoy hitting a "tour" version driver (i figured i would turn a cut into a slice) but the ft tour was fantastic. i have always battled with a higher ball flight as well so i would recommend the 7, but that's just me. i would say hit them both if you can.

"I don't exactly trust the guy at Dick's to choose a shaft for me"

ROFL Couldn't have said it better myself.

True,But there are a few who actually know what they are doing.Your blanket statement also goes for many stand alone club fitters as well.I've meet a few who made me ROFLMAO at them. It's sad that is the case and it ruins other credible club fitters reputations as well

I play the FT Tour with the VooDoo XVS6 and love the shaft. I don't know if this would help, but I have a driver swing speed of 112-115 and a really quick tempo. I fight a hook and play a draw naturally, so the 1.5* open club face lets me play a straight to slight draw ball movement. The shop that I got fitted at told me the stock XVS6 would play perfectly with the head and with the numbers I got I couldn't complain (they also didn't have any other X shafts other than the stock shaft in a Cobra driver which was extremely whippy). If you are in a position to try each, I'd definitely go that route. I wish I would have been, but can't complain with how it's turned out for me thus far.

I was quoting JB in his interview with the Miyazaki guy. As for your statement about club fitters I also found that out the hard way. I got fit by a Nike professional for my Split Cavs and it completely ruined my game for about 3 weeks. Then I came on here and Andy got me all straightened out.

Yah I'm usually at about 115-118 with a good tempo. My drives are usually dead straight, with maybe a slight fade, but easily controlable. Unfortunately there isn't anywhere around here that will let you demo clubs and I don't see a demo day in the close future. I'm probably the only person in the world who doesn't like my R9 and sold it and now I'm in dire need of a replacement, I love the FT Tour just can't decide on a shaft. I'm probably gonna try the XVS6 and hope it works out. I played a Fuji Motore 60 in my R9.

I know where you got that qoute,I listened to it as well. Sorry to hear you already ran into a bad fitter. Fitting is a judgement call and not everyone's judgement is good.Same goes for finding a good auto mechanic.Even though they go through the proper training, some are not worth a darn.

Dick's can only do the very basic fitting.Length and lie and correct flex of shaft avil in stock.Testing other shafts will not happen ,except with taylormade products.,sad.

That shaft can't handle your SS.You should have gooen one of the TP shafts or at least the original R9 which had the 65 motore which is a millions times better then the 460 version

If you don't mind going for a weekend trip, these guys could help you.

Again a victim of "fitment." I think they just wanted to sell me a 500$ Driver that night. The XVS6 will have no problem handling my swing speed will it?

I will have to consider that, as I don't want to be reshafting the club in a month.

Speaking of, first shaft Dicks "fit" me into was a 50 gram reax stiff in a 2009 burner lol.

The flex is correct.Have you ever hit the Vs Proto? It's a mid/high launch and mid spin shaft. If that is what you need then it will work. Shafts have profiles and you need one of them,I don't know which one you would need.

ROFLMAO.. 50 grams for 115 mph.NOT. You'd want nothing lighter then 65 grams. If you still had your R9,I'd ship you a few shafts to try

hey biglefty do you know the difference between those shafts? i have the aldilia re ax 60 gram shaft in my driver and just curious what the difference in the fujikura 65 gram would do.

Besides the weight, the Aldila shaft was designed to launch higher. The aldila shaft plays softer to flex then the motore version did.

when you say softer to flex you mean, say i was to have a stiff flex in the aldila shaft would actually play some where between a regular and stiff flex in the motore?
