Off Course is back this week with a fantastic show. Hosted by Dan Edwards each Friday he gives you a deep look into the world of golf and equipment in a way unlike any other podcast has done before. Today James Costa joins the show for an introduction to one of the most fascinating brands that is kicking off soon bridging the gap between Web 3.0 and golf style. Introducing Clubhouse Archives.
It wouldn’t be Off Course without some tangents, but Dan and James discuss everything from the what the heck all of this means to having an understanding how NFT meets golf apparel and the most important aspect, how people can be involved. This show has a lot going on and is one you will not want to miss.
Episode 105 is here and Dan and James discuss the following topics.
NFTs in Golf
Community Grown Initiatives
The Mint and What they Plan to Accomplish
Collabs with Clubhouse Archives
Limited Runs and Reselling
Who is the Brand and Growth
And so much more

I went from not in, to fully understanding, to wanting it over the course of 60 minutes.
So my current driver swing is an NFT.
Got it ?
I get the mechanics. But I don’t understand the why. Why are people spending million on digital art? My thought is laundering money. Lol..
I mean you could say the same thing about the stock market or retirement plans, right? You don’t really get a certificate. Just a digital property that has value and can go up and down. This is really no different in that regards.
What I find interesting about this one is it really is a modern day crowdsourcing. You bring in money to help build the brand and product, but unlike Kickstarter or others, with this you have a chance to help shape the company rather than just receive (or not receive, im looking at you OnCore) the product.
for sure.. I am not trying to criticize. More just showing and voicing my ignorance to the whole thing…
Oh I get it, I was fairly lost on the whole thing too. I actually could not wait for this one to have a better understanding. I happen to really like the way James explained it to Dan. I am curious on how many of these succeed and how many fail, but I bet its similar to that of most investments. Being first does have its benefits though.
Literally everytime I try to understand NFTs.
I’ll still listen at some point and see about this one.
I think this is fair, but also why I’m intrigued by the actual apparel they will be making. The idea of voting and such is super interesting.
Same. That would be pretty cool.
It definitely is. All of this stuff is fascinating. I hope he makes a fortune off of it. I will just be like Larry David in that Coinbase Super Bowl commercial LOL!
I kept thinking that as the layers peeled away.
It’s kickstarter’s less crappy, more sensible, and potentially profitable solution.
Here’s my biggest takeaway from it: That they aren’t out to serve all golfers in their NFT based launches, or even their community structure – but not unlike a golfer who is into bitcoin or pokemon cards or baseball cards or shoes or funko pops or etc etc etc, it’s a fun avenue to collect and possibly (likely?) profit on down the road. Imagine buying a product and instead of that being the end of it, you now own some rights to every use it has in the future, in ANY direction (merch, high end, digital, etc).
I love that there are definitive layers to the concept of Clubhouse Archives. I love that the name itself reflects on the community they will build, and resources they could potentially pull and profit from in future ventures.
Long story short, you might not want to walk through a metaverse with Snoop Dogg showing off your new Clubhouse Archives polo, but, you might want to own some of the rights to it.
This was really important to me as someone that didnt get it going in to its full extent.
Hope you enjoyed!
It’s a step away from the norm, but a REALLY fun one so far as I can tell.
I’m going to start over in the morning.
Nice!
Really eager to hear some more feedback.
To be honest, I didn’t want to get out of the car.
I was going to listen to off course, ON course (eh? eh?) But this one needs my full attention.
I’ll report back tomorrow.
It’s top of the queue ?
Asbolutely LOVE that.
We’ve had some awesome topics on the show, from some awesome guests. I think James was no exception. Crazy idea coming to fruition.

It has been on my mind a lot since I listened though…
It’s big thinking and interesting for sure.
really connected to the part @Canadan was talking about how we grew up without much fear/steep learning curves on the internet, but the NFT craze is something that makes me take a step back. I understand the basics of it, but those finer details are all over the place in my head.
onto the Clubhouse Archives. It sounds pretty cool to attach something tangible to an NFT, especially in golf. I like some of the future possibilities. I liked a couple of the designs.
I did go to their website to check it out a bit more. Where I continue to come up short on this, is the pricing, how to even get the ethereum to purchase if I was even going to buy, and the volatility of cryptocurrency when trying to.
it is a cool concept, and I’ll follow along to see how it shakes out, but way above my head right now, and I’m not committed to learn the finer details of the web3.0 world yet.
I still need to finish the whole episode, but I feel like NFT’s are my first foray into "man I’m old" territory I’m understanding them now more thanks to this episode, but I still just don’t get it lol. I’m glad you challenged a little, Dan, bringing up that you can get 100s of pictures by searching on Google because that’s my thought too. I guess maybe NFT’s just aren’t for me, maybe that’ll change at some point.
We are going to have to get James back on before launch because I think many are confused about that. My gut says coin pricing is based on that crypto price (which is lower right now). I view it as a modern day crowd sourcing with the bonus that it could be profitable and voting, rights, etc.
Absolutely agreed on those last points. The discord chat I’m sure is going to have some wild conversations, and lots of cool possibilities. I’m fascinated for sure on all of this, and actually pulled into a parking lot to eat a blizzard and listen attentively to the last part of the episode.
the pricing for a clubhouse archives token, looks to be between 0.2 and 0.4 ethereum. That’s a good chunk as the cryptocurrency is trading at ~2700 to 2800 USD today. But does the price change on a token if ETH plummets or rockets? There’s a lot of long term questions from me in that sector just in general.
I’d love to hear him on Off Course again in the future as a follow up and to dive deeper!
The price of the token Would have to change if it’s based on that valuation which of course makes it an investment (with risk)
I am really so appreciative of this post. I went in with a basic understanding of crypto and NFTs, but a deep understanding of digital purchasing of non-tangible goods (read: played a lot of video games hahaha). It was my hope that by challenging James in the right places, he could add some perspective value to what many see in NFTs at the current time.
I bet if you told my Dad in 2000 when I was playing Doom on my PC that in 20 years I’d be buying skins for my character with real money, he’d look at me like I was a lunatic – but we’re there in a really big way. Similarly, if I showed him my "MySpace" account at the same time and said some day people will spend all day on a site like there, connected to all their friends, sharing pictures and etc, he’d say the same thing – but here we are with facebook and etc – it seems like the reasonable next step is a socialized online visual beyond a "wall" and these types of metaverse concepts are growing, not dying. Now add in that I can rock a limited edition piece of golf apparel while engaging on there with my ‘avatar’ or whatever we’re calling it – to me it just sounds like the sensible next step.
Who knows – maybe in five years we’re going to have a THP metaverse with a bunch of people hanging out in a digital 19th hole talking about fairway divots
The one thing I struggle with in terms of using a coin based system for buy in, is the ultimate wall that is placed.
I don’t have a digital wallet or own any crypto currency. It’s very much fascinated me, but I’m not at a place where I want to put dollars to risk (even though it’s proven quite regularly to make sense).
What I do really like, is that it sounds like while the early adapters or "community" members will be heavily connected with crypto, there is always potential down the road that they can orchestrate alternative sources for clothing (like storefronts of the Saks variety) who may be interested in a line, that they would/could pull from the archives.
To me, this just says "I don’t want to invest in the next golf club company, but you better believe when things become available to the ‘public’ I’ll be ready" – We’re just seeing the front side of the process in more than just investment money or kickstarter or crowdfunding etc.
I know it’s a wild topic that’s outside of most of our realms, but it’s super fascinating to listen and learn about, and obviously something the world seems more than willing to trend toward (which I think is pretty damn cool honestly).
You make some really good points. I wish I had the time and want to put effort into understanding all of this more because I do think it’s all here to stay. And earlier investors/people that buy in and do it right are putting themselves in good financial positions. Need to finish the episode and hope you guys do get James back on for more.
I think this is a really interesting idea personally. There is definitely some inherent value in purchasing the Genesis Token, and if the company takes off, it could be a lucrative proposition for some people. I am looking forward to getting into the whitepaper and learning even more, but appreciate the introduction to a company I would have otherwise not ever heard of.
I still refuse to buy any "skins" or digital assets for video games. I think that’s why it’s so hard for me to buy into purely digital assets. (Also think baseball cards are ridiculous as well. )
Seems like there’s more value and physical assets to building a clothing brand, but you could do the same thing without the NFTs. ????
I think I just don’t have any interaction with those NFT communities like was mentioned. Going to finish up and might have to relisten.
Well, that’s kind of the beauty of the concept they are building, that it layers on itself.
1- NFT design is voted on by community of token holders
2- Small batch of product made and sold, with NFT inclusion both on the physical item and digital.
3- Potential for that product to get used in future non-NFT based lines that sees owner get a ‘cut’ of the revenue.
Even without caring about the digital asset (NFT) here, owning a piece of product that could be profited on later is a pretty incredible concept.
I agree it’s a cool concept.
The part about a digital receipt for purchase of part of the company founding is actually something I get.
I have a hard time getting excited about a digital receipt for every article of clothing I ever buy, I’m glad for the ability to forget some of my clothing choices over the years.
It also opens up other avenues like staking
I really like NFTs that come with tangible goods associated with them (if I’m to ‘like’ an NFT). It makes a lot more sense to me that way.
With that in mind, I think the biggest reason why we don’t feel directly connected to NFTs right now is a lack of access to them. If suddenly Facebook introduces an "NFT Wall" for our profiles, we’re going to start to see that integration come more quickly I think. If Twitter has a tab that says "NFT collection" I can see people starting to really engage with collectibles that have them. I think of all the guys posting pics of their headcovers, why not have a digital wall for it?
Reminds me a bit of the old THP Hall of Fame. #AheadOfItsTimeAgain
