THPGolf · Off Course: What is a Premium Golf Ball?

Where is the tour use? Im trying to find it.
I am guessing there is somewhere. Korn ferry, euro tour maybe. I don’t know. I am not a total die hard there but I think tour validation is important and I guarantee they are trying to get it.
goes back to the fact that all golfers whether they know it our not are influenced by tour use.
Im pretty confused then.
So in that case it doesn’t matter if its not used on tour, but in Q-Star Tours case it does?
I think I am going back to the idea that its based on price and I know its not a popular sentiment, but I believe it to be the case.
Either way, I have enjoyed the back and forth.
I hope this doesn’t happen. I love having a premium ball at a discount price.
Ok. Let me try and clear this up as I think I have kind of cleaned it up for myself.
tour play is maybe less accurate than tour targeted. Would you agree that in the case of the Mizuno ball. They are hoping to get it in the hands of your staff and have them switch to that ball?
is that the same case for the q star tour? I don’t think so. They are trying to approximate a tour ball, watered down some for the masses and packaged more affordable.
That goes back to compression. Chrome Soft isn’t tour targeted. Neither is AVX. Neither is Tour B RX.
So price and firm means premium in this case.
I was just coming to say I still think the chrome soft is. Even at the low compression. Even if it sees very minimal play. I still think it is a tour targeted product.
That is very interesting.
What would you say if Chrome Soft had a different name than X and X LS?
like if it was the Callaway am tour ball? ??
No, lets say it was called Chrome Speed and the other two were called Chrome Soft X and X LS
I feel like my point is valid. Tour targeted generally is going to be firm. I am just not sure I can get behind that as the name for premium. It would basically eliminate all equipment that falls into the game improvement category such as XXIO, Honma, etc etc etc.
Like I said. One category and not a hill I would defend to my death. But I think it is still a box to check if you can.
homna is a interesting thought. Don’t they sell golf balls for like $80/dzn? I am not sure those are premium. Just because of a boujee price tag.
They had a six layer ball with a urethane cover. Would that not be premium?
Im still trying to wrap my head around what people (in this case you) feel is premium.
Originally you said multiple layers and urethane cover and tour usage on KFT or PGA Tour.
Now that is just a bucket.
So if it comes off of that, wouldnt every ball that fits in the first one make sense? Or are we back basing it on price and compression?
Me too. ?
That was my assertion on the show, yes. But generally speaking that has not been an accepted thought of the golfing public unless Kirkland is written on the side in my opinion. Which is hysterical.
For convenience. Let’s just say price. Although I don’t fully support that.
I agree, you do not. It needs to be firm too
For me personally yes. I prefer firmer. For others like @Canadan maybe not.. which is why I don’t think compression is important.
But it is virtually the only way to get that tour usage bucket. Otherwise we are right back at price ???
Leave me alone. Lol..
what if I said only cast urethane balls are premium? ?
It would eliminate half of the balls you already said are premium. You would also have a large number of materials experts chuckling.
Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that cast is the more expensive and better process. I can’t recall for sure.
If you ask those that do cast urethane. If you asked others they would disagree. Bridgestone for instance and Srixon, two of the biggest material companies in the world would disagree. So would Callaway.
I honestly could not remember and it was 100% a sarcastic comment. What is the other process? Thermoplast? or something like that..
Yes sir. Thermoplastic.
Good talk. I am glad we could finally come to an agreement. ?
