Though Shot Scope already has (arguably) the most comprehensive collection of performance tracking products on the market, there has always been a small missing link in their lineup. Prior to today, golfers had to purchase a device, i.e., the X5 watch, to link their on-course performance with the Shot Scope dashboard.
The company’s new Connex Performance Tracking Tags fill in that hole. At an attractive $99.00 price point, the Connex tags work with an app on your smart device to not only track every shot you take on the golf course, but also to provide accurate GPS readings. Better yet, like all Shot Scope products, Connex comes without the burden of monthly subscription fees.
Connex tags, weighing in at only 2g, are described by Shot Scope as a “plug and play” performance tracking option. They use RFID technology and screw securely into the butt end of each club’s grip. Golfers simply tap the tag to their smartphone before each shot, and the app does the rest. At the end of the round, all the round’s statistics are available for analysis, such as club distance, proximity to the pin, putting, and short game. Advanced metrics like strokes gained allow users to evaluate areas of their game against similarly skilled players to identify areas that need the most improvement.
In addition to the valuable performance tracking capabilities that don’t require a smart watch or GPS device, Shot Scope’s app provides a number of in-round features to make the game easier. Prior to teeing off, users can select the course they are playing and instantly see aerial views of each hole, along with distance measurements to the front, back, and middle of the green. To narrow down distances even more, it’s possible to mark any point on a hole, like hazards, doglegs, and layup spots. When approaching the green, pin positions can be adjusted for even more accurate readings. Like all Shot Scope GPS products, the app will have over 36,000 courses available.
Like the company’s other performance tracking products, Connex tags will provide data that integrates into Shot Scope Academy, a tool for instructors and coaches that enables them to evaluate both on-course performance and advanced metrics. Shot Scope Academy then provides a one-stop solution for communicating feedback or lesson and practice plans.
According to Shot Scope’s CEO, David Hunter, “With hundreds of thousands of golfers around the world using Shot Scope products every day, our technology is proven to lower scores and improve performance for golfers of all playing levels. However, through Shot Scope Academy our ability to connect golfers with instructors for post-round game analysis is truly revolutionary, as an instructor can see first-hand how the golfer is performing from tee-to-green, and immediately provide expert insight.”

If it worked with Apple Watch, my credit card would have burn marks from me pulling it out so fast to buy.

I picked these up the other day, honestly couldn’t pass them up for the price ($38). I can’t stand wearing a watch during golf which is why this appealed to me. I’ve read a mix of reviews but most negatives seem like it’s a software today issue. Anyone here personally been using the Connex for a while now that personally really likes them?
Had them since they came out. You can look back through my past comments. They’re always working to improve their products. I say on a user call with a couple SS employees a few weeks ago for Connex. Some issues are phone hardware related out of their control, but they do what they can. I like them. I’m sure they’ll keep getting better.
Glad to hear it! If I do want better performance can you buy the watch later and use it with these?
You’d get new tags with any watch, but I think the X5 and Connex use the same tag technology. Don’t remember if they’d work with each other. I tried the X5 but like having maps on my phone anyway so Connex makes sense for me.
They are not compatible, but since you get tags with the watch it’s a non-issue (other than needing to switch them out at first).
Thanks for updating me on this!
I’m the same way and excited to get out and try it!
The Shot Scope app has GPS functionality on the phone just like any other golf GPS. Also, "whole hole" view has been added to the X5 watch itself now, too.
I know. It didn’t 6 months ago. I also prefer to wear my Apple watch and not have two watches on each arm like a crazy person.
