In what is arguably the worst kept secret in golf, the V3 edition of Shot Scope is being launched and the company listened to every aspect of consumer feedback to bring a fantastic device to market.
Rewinding a bit before diving into the technology and our early feedback, Shot Scop3 V2 was extremely well liked, although some users found it to be a bit bulky on the wrist. Those that used the previous version generally liked the data, accuracy and overall user interface quite a bit.
Hitting golf stores now, the V3 takes that GPS and Performance Tracking watch, and like the movie Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, makes it tiny in comparison. To use a comparison, this is right around the same size and shape of an Apple Watch, and weighs next to nothing. In fact, during my first round, I actually forgot I was wearing it and this is coming from a golfer that never wears a watch during play.
So what is new? A lot. A whole lot actually. The V3 added dual GPS Accuracy, which is designed to give it industry leading accuracy on the course. But what about the changes you can see? The V2 had kind of a bland screen, so it has been upgraded with full color, which is fantastic when needing a quick glance to get hazard info. The unit is actually preloaded now with 35,000 courses, rather than needing to sync the device. Want style? The V3 drops in multiple watch band colors to coordinate if you would like. Finally, battery life, actually more on that shortly.
The story behind V3 is what Shot Scope calls AI Swing and Performance Tracking Technology. That is a mouthful, but what it means is that the more you play using the device, the more data it collects and will be able to offer some incredible statistics aimed at making you better. This is all done in the background, so it is nothing you have to fidget with during the round. In fact, the only thing you need to do is tell the device how many putts you had after completing each hole by a simple click of one of the four buttons (if you five putt, you have bigger issues), and then move on to the next hole. No phone in the pocket, no screens to mess with, nothing at all, just play your game and Shot Scope works in the background.
We get asked a lot about battery life and the V2 definitely had no issues getting in a full round of golf. The V3 offers 10+ hours, and in our testing it might be even more. Testing it on the course I was on the green on the 14th hole of the 3rd round over the course of 4 days before it went caput.
When you get the device, there are a couple of things you need to do to get going right away. Obviously the simple part is charging it up with the supplied cord and then making sure you download the mobile app that matches your cell phone. Quick note, we have only tried the iOS app, but it worked extremely well. Like a traditional watch (and yes, this can be worn as one with what they call Everyday Watch Mode), you wear it on your left wrist for RH golfers or right wrist for LH golfers, then screw in the club tags in the grip end of your clubs. This step sounds tedious, but it is super easy. When you get to the course click play and choose the mode you would like (GPS, GPS and Data or Data). The first time we used it the load time took several minutes at the course, so give yourself a few while at the range or putting green. Then you are ready to play.
On the course, all you have to do is use Pin Collect, which is their quick version mentioned earlier about pressing the button associated with how many putts you had on a given hole. The rest is done for you, unless you are like me and hit a couple of hazards. I was genuinely surprised to see how well the watch handled the penalties. You click the button in the top left for menu and then press which penalty you had. That is it.
There are competitions with other Shot Scope users that can be had during the round, but since we were using the device before it was released, we have not tried it out as of yet.
For the golfer that is unsure if they want the statistics or data, let me share with you a quick story because like you, I never wanted to know. Didn’t care and assumed I knew. I was tasked with jotting down the clubs that I use the most and least in my bag and then play 5 rounds of golf wearing the V3. Turns out, I was way off base and Shot Scope not only told me about what clubs were used, but also how well I used them (not anything like I had thought).
After using this for a number of rounds, I am not sure I want to go without it. Not only did we find the GPS extremely accurate and match up to the GPS on the golf carts we used, but the post round data through the free mobile app is extremely enjoyable and done so without a monthly subscription fee, unlike a few other data tracking devices that charge a fee.
Shot Scope is also launching a standard GPS Watch to go along with the V3 and they call it the G3. It does everything the V3 does, minus the data tracking. Still loaded with 35,000 courses, still has Dual GPS and a color screen. Still no subscription.

Perfect! Thank you!
You don’t have to, it will do it automatically. As long as you’ve assigned that putter to the tag. If you forget, just switch to manual putting for that round.
I put the sensor on. That’s what I’m trying to figure out if I switch to the other putter will the watch just pick it up. I got the new putter sensor in yesterday and just put it on. My original putter is the one that shows up as assigned in my bag. Now I created the putter in my bag in the online dashboard and it just shows unassigned.
I just take the sensor out of one putter and put it in the grip of the other one. ?
I can’t do that with it being Strokelab bc of how I cut threads of one and I used the stick on one on the other. I also used epoxy and sealed it around the edges bc the electrical tape was coming off.
OK, you have to move the original putter to Unassigned Clubs and the new putter to the putter position in your bag. You’ll need to do that every time you swap putters.
Each additional putter or club that is assigned to a tag will appear in a different color. Each of the above answers is correct. You drag the current putter from your bag to the unassigned area then drag the new putter and put it in that putter slot. As you can see below, there are three putters that I may use on any given day. The one I want to use that day I put in my bag BEFORE the round by doing the above, in my example case, dragging the Toulon to Unassigned and the one I want to use into its place.

Thanks man for the example! Thank you everyone for your help!
So, if you forget to do that the V3 won’t read the sensor on the second putter????
Not sure what you are asking. No matter how many putter tags you have they all look the same to the watch. The only way the system knows which putter you are using (or any club) and tracks stats for that particular putter/club you are using is if you have put it into your "MyBag" slot before the round.
In the month or so since buying it, I have yet to play a round in which I remember to hit the pin collect button before leaving the green on every hole. I’ve been hit and miss, about 50% of the time.
And, my strap isn’t very sensitive so I have to always check to see if it’s picking up the sensor for the club I have in hand. Often, I have to hold the sensor/butt end of the club up against the watch/strap. Kinda frustrating and is detracting from the data detail benefits of the V3.
I’m quoting this post in hopes that my V3 feels pressure to (finally) do the same!
Good luck. I have had very minimal editing overall, but was nice to upload to the phone and see that I didn’t have to do anything as I went through the holes.
Having said that, I have been using the auto putting mode for the most part and it’s easy to remember to use pin collect at the hole. However, I want to see if going back to manual mode increases accuracy but when I used that in the past I bet I forgot to mark my first putt probably 3 or 4 times per round. If I go back to manual I need to somehow make it a part of my pre-shot routing when putting. I never had an issue marking short putts around the hole as I seemed to always remember to mark the pin location and going to do that reminded me to mark the last putt.
I’ve had that with my last 4 rounds, hopefully the trend continues.
Unfortunately, I have to check every club before each shot to see if the V3 is picking it up. About 1 out of 4 times, I have to hold the grip-end sensor against the watch. Very frustrating. And distracting.
I’ve read that some people have gotten in the habit of always tapping the sensor against the strap, much like one had to do with the OG Game Golf system, tap the sensor against the belt worn device. Maybe try that for a round and trust that the club will be sensed as it may be less frustrating and distracting that way. Just a thought. Another option is to contact support and see f they think there is a sensitivity issue with the strap. I’m assuming that you are right-handed, you are wearing it on your left wrist and the "Hand" setting on the watch is "Right" meaning you are a right handed golfer.
Anyway, was happy to get such a quick response from the SS support team. Just hope we can get the V3 working and recording properly because I really like the product and its potential benefits.
After I sent an email to the Shot Scope customer support team, they accessed my V3 dashboard and reviewed the raw data that showed the problems that I was having with the watch. Two days later …
A replacement V3 is on its way to me! (And I returned the original watch for further inspection.)
No product is 100 percent fail proof and, to me, is only as good as the company’s support behind it. In this case, I couldn’t be more pleased with the prompt response and courteous help that I received from Shot Scope customer support.
Dealing with SS for the last 3 years, I would have to say they that CS is what they do really well.
They just get it. Bad news travels fast so make sure there is no "Bad News"…..
The replacement V3 was just delivered to my home. Again, outstanding customer service and support from the folks at Shot Scope!

This info was in the email Shot Scope sent on Monday:
Dear Shot Scope Customer,
Please read the information below which details a new update to your Shot Scope V3.
In order to get the best experience from your watch please update your firmware to the latest firmware version.
Firmware for V3: 2.4.0
What’s New?
Lay Up Points added
Included in the course hazards, you will now find lay up distances. 100 yard, 150 yard and 200 yard lay up points will be shown.
These are all in the middle of the fairway, and the distance to the layup point is in a straight line from where you are standing (see graphic below for a visual).
If there is a bunker or other hazard at the same place as a lay up point, e.g. 100 yards the 100 yard lay up point will not be shown on that hole.
You will need to update the course for layup points to show.
Faster Firmware and Course Updates
The latest firmware will ensure faster course transfers and firmware updates over BLE (bluetooth).
This firmware update will take the same time as previous updates (5-12 minutes) – however going forward this time will significantly decrease to around 6 minutes on iOS and 3 minutes on Android. (Depends on device – older devices may be slower).
After this update is installed, any course updates that are available for your subscribed courses, will sync to you watch much faster than previously.
– I absolutely love it. It has tracked every shot, my last 3 rounds. Although my last round was on a 9 hole course played twice to equal 18 holes. When the round uploaded, it uploaded 1 round and I thought it was wierd, so I reconnected the watch because I thought it missed half my shots and then realized it was 2 9 hole rounds right after I deleted them because I didn’t want to mess with adding half my shots. My idiocy for not paying a little closer attention. Oh well, it’s going strong!
– Got a notification for a firmware update. Downloaded, charged and ready for my round this weekend. Although I wont be tracking clubs, just distance since I will be testing some new shafts and letting a friend hit my Max LS. Don’t want the tags to register twice while pulling from the bag.
Couldn’t be happier with this watch!
You’ll want to update the courses on the watch because of the new layup feature.
Roger that. Thanks. I will do that tonight.
many pros especially with added stats and such over the past year.
mY only gripes.
1) this one is just recent. Noticed it’s not picking up the tag on practice swings at times. Now I need to tap the tag to the watch
2) when I get near the green and the watch switches over to putting mode it misses capturing my chip shot. So I have to add my chips post round which can be up to 5-6 shots.
3) no option to select individual rounds (other than last rd) or date ranges to display your data
4) instead of using color codes to identify your clubs in the dashboard wish the club model would appear.
I came from Game Golf so it spoiled me on #3 and #4.
I updated the firmware and courses but didn’t see the layup yardages on the hazard screen. Any ideas?
Haven’t run into this problem yet…hopefully I don’t lol
I’ve never had an issue with chip shots not being picked up while the Pin Collect screen is showing, never had to add one. Check that you aren’t choking down to much such that the tag isn’t being sensed. I think if the club is sensed it will show on the watch even if the Pin Collect screen is shown. Not having to add any missed chip shots over probably 180 rounds (unless I chunk one and it doesn’t travel enough to be differentiated from a practice swing) has me convinced that I don’t even need to check if the club I am chipping with has been recognized.
My only gripe is that sometimes I can be in the center of the green and it is still showing a distance instead of the Pin Collect Screen.
You are correct. It will show up even if the pin collect screen is on. In reference to the distance instead of the Pin Collect Screen I haven’t had that happen yet either.
Never thought of that. I choke down to the bottom of the grip on almost every chip. But having said that before the chip I always take a practice swing. I figured it would register that way. Maybe not
Depending on where you wear the watch on your arm (maybe farther up as opposed to right at the wrist?) it could be too far from the tag. Maybe grip the club at the top of the grip, check that it was "sensed", then choke down?
I’ll have to try that. Most of the time though it’s in green mode being that close to the green. How do you know if it senses it ?
It will show up where your "P" on the green mode.
Make sure that in Settings on your watch, in the "show Club" setting, it is enabled. Then, like @ttucliffhanger said, the club you are chipping with will be where the "P" normally is shown when putting.
Ok. I’ll check. I know the show club is enabled.
You do have to connect it to your phone and update the courses. Some of my courses had it, others did not.
I did I even unsubscribed and re subscribed and it made no difference
Sent from my SM-N986W using Tapatalk
It’s possible the actual info from the course itself has not been updated, right?
You need to sign out of the app, not just close and re-open it. The courses that have been updated will then show that an update is available. I had trouble updating multiple courses getting a quick "flash" where all the courses listed as having updates disappeared when I hit "sync" or I got a server error message. So I unsubscribed from every course I had subscribed to and went back and re-subscribed one at a time then each shoed and u pdate was available and I synced succesfully.
That’s why when I used mine before Arccos, I left it plugged in in the truck. First 3 rounds after I purchased it I forgot it at home.
that’s genius. ?
