Another outstanding show! Thanks to THP and Sean for the great dialogue.
Agree completely about the belly putter….was inevitable that eventually someone would start winning with it. Too late to ban it IMO – should have done it long ago if there is something about it that offers an unfair advantage. Great point about TW – would not be discussing this if certain (and very few at that) star players were winning with it.
Sean pulling out the brown bag reference was hilarious! While I agree that many people will think that the more expensive putters are better, it is amazing how many of us will not pay that price for the putter but will for the driver, etc.
Just judging by the looks of the Yamada, it looks pretty sharp. Really does look like something that I would have in my bag. I will make you to hop over to Sean’s site and be on the lookout for his review of the one that he has. Good stuff!!
Lol at “jumped the shark” comment about when Phil broke out the belly putter. The hybrid comparison to the belly putter was spot on. The comment on premium putters and “the leather seat factor” made a lot of sense, had never thought of it that way before. I had never heard of Yamada before this morning either, will be checking out their website today.
Great show!!
Great show!
Good points about the belly putter and people winning with them. More and more guys on tour are using them, so obviously with the percentage of players using them, there will be more wins with them. The argument “another win for the belly putter” would be more of an argument if there were only a handful of guys using them, and they were winning everything.
Liked the “test/prank” of the premium putter. Putting is such a mental thing, that people are looking for anything to give them that putting edge.
Would really like to see a 70″ Driver, or at least someone try to hit one.
Great show, I personally believe either you can putt or you can’t. I really don’t think long putters can improve you that much. Just look at Michelle Wie. I also love my $25 ray cook putter. I’ve owned expensive putters but keep going back to the ray cook. I guess it has a lot to do with my comfort level with it.
I will check out yamada also. Thanks Sean and JB for taking the time out to do another awesome show
Great episode! Love the bit about price vs premium. I’m afraid to google Yamada putters, Sean seems to be really impressed with what he’s seeing.
I recently purchase a belly putter and this is not my first one. I have tried one before with some ok results but nothing that would keep it in my bag. I wish that the people who are complaining about them and asking for a ban would have to play with them for ONE month . I believe they would then see these putters are not automatic and requires many hours of practice to become skilled with. Even with practice they just never match up with the majority of golfers. Try one if you don’t believe me.
I’m running to order that 70 inch driver. I hope to hit it 300 yards. I dont need to hit it 500 yards . lol. Great show. Loved the Trick on the people at putting range. The Yamada putters are very nice. I follow on FB.here is their link. very nice. http://www.yamadamilled.com/ The app sounds so cool. Oneday!!!! Dang now we have to wait a whole month for the next 1. 🙁
Great show guys! Really enjoy listening to these, and this one is no different. JB and Sean, you guys just bounce off each other very well.
Some great discussion in here. I’ll admit that I have never heard of Yamada putters, but from 2 pics, I want that Hummer model! Beautiful!
Good discussion about fitting too – the putter is still lagging behind in the fitting market, and Ping are pushing in the right direction for sure.
Good stuff guys, I finally got it to work in my classroom. Excellent as always!
I’ll be building my own belly putter as an experiment, can’t knock it until you try it.
Gah! So much good putter information! Brain melting!
In all seriousness, great thoughts, especially price v. quality, belly putters and that Yamada line. Very enjoyable.
This topic really intrigues me. In fact I have installed a conversion kit into my standard putter.
It’s funny that all of a sudden longer putters are finally winning consistently on Tour, but I do agree, more people are using them so it makes sense that more people would be winning with them. As far as banning them, it seems like it’s a little late now.
I think price CAN correlate to quality, but as the THP Cleveland experiment shows, it doesn’t have to. Just because something is “prettier” doesn’t mean it’s better.
I’ve never heard of Yamada either, but since Sean didn’t either, I don’t feel so bad!
Great interview with Sean.
Nice show JB & Sean… really enjoyed the story confirming how people’s perceptions and preferences are affected by knowing the price point. I dropped in GG recently, and while “puttering” around on practice green, overheard a father & his 2 sons discussing various putters. The father looked at the price tag on a putter (it was just under $100), declared it was “cheap putter” and put it back on the rack without even trying it out! Neither he nor his sons tried any putter under a $200 price tag. Kind of sad really.
The Yamada site shows some really sweet putters, but those new Ansers are every bit as nice.
While I recently inherited a vintage Anser from an uncle, I am currently gaming his Dunlop DI-3 K-mart special that is sinking putts for me like no tomorrow… thought my putter ho desires had subsided until hearing this show! Thaaannks..!!
As to the belly putter debate, I think the long putter can be a better tool for some, but certainly not all golfers. For those arguing that anchoring the putter somehow gives one an advantage, I would suggest going to your favorite golf store and try using one of these behemoths… it’s not easy or automatic, at least for me. If Phil, Ernie, Furyk, Keegan or Tiger starts stringing majors together using a belly putter… well retail belly sales are gonna skyrocket!
Outstanding show once again. I loved the price vs quality discussion. I have actually rolled a Yamada before and they are very very nice putters.
Another great show guys.
Wow I don’t know how I missed this. Thanks for taking the time to do this but for me I couldn’t see myself using one my height doesn’t seem like it would be ideal plus I already have a putter I love and just bought earlier this year.
Thanks again! I’m sure this helped a ton of people who were curious.
Excellent show as always! Had to lol at Sean and the jumping shark reference with Phil. I agree that’s it’s too late to ban the belly putter.
Great show! I keep staring at that Yamada putter pic, want one. Funny that hardly anyone was questioning long putters when the old guys started using them years and years ago.
