It’s time to raise the curtain on Cleveland Golf’s new Huntington Beach SOFT Premier putters and its expansion of the successful Huntington Beach SOFT line. Cleveland Golf has consistently proven that you can make high-quality milled putters with absolute attention to detail and face technology at a really competitive price point. If you haven’t been paying attention to Cleveland putters, it may be time you perked up because you may just be surprised with what you learn.
Milling technology is the big story with both lines, as the new Huntington Beach SOFT Premier and the Huntington Beach SOFT putters are built on the same underlying technology, SOFT. SOFT, or Speed Optimized Face Technology, is face milling technology that is designed to help golfers with one of the biggest problems plaguing amateurs: speed and distance control. Cleveland Golf’s proprietary Speed Optimized Face Technology is designed to normalize ball speed across a larger portion of the face, including impacts that stray from the center.
According to Cleveland, SOFT works by creating a non-uniform milling pattern on the face. Specifically, SOFT putters feature a condensed and concentrated milling pattern in the center of the face, which effectively decreases the amount of direct contact between the face and the ball at impact, and a more spaced out milling pattern as you get further away from the center that increases direct contact with the ball. As a result, center strikes have less direct contact with the ball, and off center strikes have more direct contact with the ball, but with SOFT the inherent lower speeds caused by off-center strikes is effectively normalized with a center strike. All told, you get better, more consistent speed control regardless of impact location. If you are anything like me, having more consistent speed control will directly translate to more confidence on the greens, more aggressive strokes, and shorter second putts.
Another thing to love about SOFT is that it is technology you can see. And if you take a look at multiple different models, you will clearly see that Cleveland’s SOFT design is not once size fits all. Indeed, Cleveland has carefully optimized a SOFT milling design for each putter, so you will have an optimized milling regardless of which shape you use.
Huntington Beach SOFT Premier
The new Huntington Beach SOFT Premier putters are designed with a premium, sleek appearance as compared to the successful Huntington Beach SOFT line. Each putter in the Premier line features a Grey Satin finish that limits glare and adds a quality finish and high-end look. The dark Grey Satin finish is paired with a black shaft and an all-black grip, which gives the putter an aggressive and modern look. Although the darker finish won’t technically make you a better putter, there is something to the idea of “look good, feel good; feel good, putt good.”
As the photos above show, the face of the Huntington Beach SOFT Premier putters has a uniquely crafted, deep diamond-shaped CNC milled pattern in the 340 Stainless Steel head. This type of milling design produces a soft sound and feel at impact that Cleveland putters are known for.
Not only is the SOFT milling design unique to each head shape, the stock putter grip is also optimized depending on the shape of the putter. Face balanced Premier putters, which favor a straight back-straight through stroke, come standard with an all-black Lamkin SINKFIT Pistol grip. Toe Hang Premier putters, which favor a slight to strong arc, come stock with an all-black Lamkin SINKFIT Skinny Pistol. Matching your grip type to your stroke is a fantastic thing because a better fit means better performance.
The Huntington Beach SOFT Premier will be offered in lengths of 33, 34, and 35 inches and in the following eight shapes at launch:
Huntington Beach SOFT
In addition to the Premier line, Cleveland Golf is expanding its successful Huntington Beach SOFT line of putters to include the same shapes as the Premier line.
The new Huntington Beach SOFT putters feature the same SOFT technology described above with the same deep CNC milled diamond pattern in the same soft 304 Stainless Steel. As a result, the technology that is packed into the Premier line is also available in a Satin finish. The Huntington Beach SOFT putters that are face balanced come stock with the Cleveland Golf Huntington Beach SOFT Oversized Grip, whereas putters with a slight to strong arc come stock with a Huntington Beach SOFT Pistol Grip.
As was the case with the original Huntington Beach SOFT putters, Cleveland offers customization and paintfill for a very small fee on both lines of putters directly through its website. Plenty of golfers have already discovered the quality of Cleveland’s putters, and these new lines continue to show that just because it is one of the best deals on the market doesn’t mean it can’t dominate and stand out from the crowd, too.
You can learn more about these new putters and other club offerings by visiting their webstie at www.clevelandgolf.com.

I think the visual technology on these is cool and the idea is solid but after working with it regularly for a little over a week there is also audio technology (if that’s a thing). The difference in milling design creates different impact noises that can be a pretty good cue as to the quality of your strike. I’ve never had a putter like that before
I got an #11s already ordered!
Half my battle right now is deciding between this and the Frontline.
I am going to see if I can hit an 11 today. I have been kicking the tires on some Odyssey putters but decided to wait to try this before I made a decision.
edit to add: I tried 3 stores today and they didn’t have them and didn’t know when they would get them. I might try another tomorrow.

I was in the PGA SS near me today, and they had 2 of the #4 but in 33″, which is not my length. They look very nice though. I really like the charcoal color. Looks darker so that it would likely have no glare, but lighter than black.

That is where I am headed tomorrow: pga ss. They typically have the biggest selection of putters in my area. I tried a few stores today, but they are smaller and usually only have a Cleveland putter or two when I look.
I think I have an odyssey picked out with more alignment help than the Cleveland provides, but these look so nice that I can’t pull the trigger until I try the 11 and 11s.

Your PGA SS is better than mine. I ran by there yesterday to check these out. They didn’t even have any on the floor or in stock. Exactly why I ordered straight from Cleveland. Thanks for the info
I like the look of these. I was kinda harsh on their other recent putter release’s aesthetic. This one is less expensive as well. Nice looking face milling.
I’d put one in the bag with my other Cleveland/Srix goodies. I’d want 35.5″ and a 71º lie angle, and I see I could get it no problemo!
I’m not sure if the $159 price mentioned in the review is with some certain options?
I went to the Cleveland site and see they start at $129.99 for a fully custom spec putter, and even with custom paintfill, the #8 widebody I spec’d out came to $139. That’s pretty outstanding. Apologies for negativity on the other release. This is kinda more what I expect from Cleveland and their very affordable putters.
I’d like to see the #8 at address on their site? Pics are kinda limited. And I’d like to see what the stock and Iomic and Winn grip options look like.

The higher price tag is on the Premier line – the article covered both. But yeah, they are really quite nice and fantastically nice for the price.

OK, thanks. Maybe put both prices on the review for Cleveland. Sorry if I missed that in the review.
These are more what I think of for Cleveland with the market they seem to be after. The other one at $199 makes me wonder if that isn’t getting a little too top end compared to the rest of the club lineup. This one fits in perfectly.
I’m dubious that it will impart an improved roll based on the face milling (which is super aggressive and nice looking.) Like when Scotty was coming up and everyone started noticing the heavy face milling on some of his Tour putters, people were intrigued. And as it was explained back then anyway, the less surface contact you made with the face as a result of the milling, the SOFTER the face felt, essentially.
Other companies did a lot of face tech to interact with the cover of the ball. Or to make LESS contact as this one is claiming, so that it imparts a truer roll. I’m really not interested in putters if there isn’t some face tech they’re attempting, so at this pricepoint, very intriguing.
Head weights are pretty heavy with some of them too. Its nice to see manufacturers listen over the years and now provide head weights that give some more options. 350g always was a pretty “standard”weight on tour and having only 335g options a lot of the time for brands was frustrating (and fueled a lot of small custom putters as a result.)

340 stainless for the SOFT model then @ the $129.99. Do we know what the head material is on the Premier? It doesn’t say on the Cleveland site.
No Lamkin grip when trying to customize. Winn, Iomic, Stock Lamkin grip, and “Cleveland Pistol Blue.”

Haha that rep isn’t all that wrong as far as I can tell. They are very similar.
It drives me CRAZY how limited Cleveland’s LH selection is. By far my favorite company for clubs but god damn do I wish they would expand the selection a bit.
Was at PGA again today and took a few quick pics. Given the grip, not sure if this is the ladies model, as it doesn’t look like the pic on the Cleveland site, but it’s 33″. But overall, good looking putter. I go for an iron fitting Tuesday, and we’re going to shore up some of the discussions the fitter and I have been having about my putter(s). After that, I am about 85%+ sure I’m ordering a Premier 11S customized to my specs.

Yeah, I was just basing on the fact that the pics on the Cleveland site, are all basically blacked out grips, but this one has the teal lettering. Either way, good looking putter.
And if I order the 11S, I’ll likely be switching to the bigger Sinkfit (or some other midsize to oversize grip) when it comes in as I’m trying to commit to a cross handed grip, and that’s harder for me with the skinnier grips.
The confusion might be that they are both SOFT putters, but one is SOFT Premier.
The confusion for me is coming from the fact on the Cleveland site, the one putter, the silver one, they specifically mention the 340 stainless material.
The Premier, the darker one, the info is not on the site, and no where in the review did I see it mention BOTH heads being made of the same material.
Especially since there is a price difference, so I want to know what constitutes the said difference. They’re both “SOFT” is what I know. Is there premier an even softer head material? Or just the shaft painted black? I dunno??
Really, I have been trying just to clarify, and since I know and like people at Cleveland, if they are watching, they can correct their website to make it more clear. Or maybe I’ll just contact my friend there myself and catch up with him?
So do we have confirmation the head material is the same for both? Otherwise, I am left to make assumptions based on what I have read in both places, not just here. This was not criticism of the review, and it appears it was taken as such. I’m really trying to help out if you think about it?
SOFT in the putters name isn’t signifying that it is a softer face. It stands for Speed Optimized Face Technology with the claim/intent that the milling pattern will help maintain the same/similar speed/distance on off center hits as on stokes from the sweet spot.
I’ve played around with them enough to be able to say there are firmer feeling putters out there, and softer feeling ones, but these are definitely not “soft” in the traditional sense of the word.
As to material I think, it was confirmed that both are milled from 304 SS (under “Buttery Soft Feel” – https://www.clevelandgolf.com/en/hb-soft-premier.html)

Thanks. Yeah, I just was seeking confirmation. Thanks for the impressions. The material is important to me, as that can affect how “SOFT” a putter may feel. I know that milling isn’t an insert and it can affect feel like discussed. My understanding of face milling is that it aids in making the head feel softer as less of the ball comes in contact. So even if the marketing or tech angle is stated as such by the manufacturer, it doesn’t mean that is where my mind dutifully goes. Face millin’ been around for a while. 😉 The MOI of the design itself I think will impart more outcome result than the milling, but that is my opinion. I love various face millings for the way some put a real clean tight end over end roll. That would be my interest in these to see what the milling does, and how the materials affect the overall feel and package. (y)

Softer Feel— OK IS THIS BECAUSE THE HEAD MATEREIALS ARE DIFFERENT????
The soft 304 Stainless Steel ensures soft yet crisp feel, providing just the right balance of softness and feedback.
I’ve played Scotties and others in that material, so would have an idea what to expect and agree with that description of the material “feel.”
It really seems the feel of both is important to Cleveland, and that the SOFT milling pattern is just part of the story.
One might be aimed at someone that likes a softer feel in the SOFT. The PREMIER I’m not really sure what to expect based on the info so far. Head material would affect the feel and other aspects if it is different between the two, and would explain price difference potentially.
I think Cleveland needs to put the head material for both on their site.
I’m confused. You asked for head material earlier. I mentioned it was in the review. You said you didn’t see it. So I copy and pasted it.
fast forward to today you mentioned again you didn’t see it in the article. I quoted the same post showing the head material.
Im not sure what you are asking other than why it’s not on the Cleveland website, but good news, the info you requested is here and answered.
All we can do is try to answer the questions people have. If you have others, no sweat.

Work with me here a little. Here is the text from the Cleveland site for the PREMIER:
Precision Milled Face
A unique diamond CNC milling pattern increases friction for a pure roll and softer feel at impact. 😉
Here is for the SOFT:

Lol what is so hard to understand? It’s been literally laid out for you and you still aren’t getting it. They are the same putter made out of the same material. One is silver, one is dark gray. Premier= dark gray Silver=not Premier
P.s. Ive written and read “premier” so many times it doesn’t even look like a word anymore lol
Gary, I enjoyed this. Well written, and all the info one could want is in there if they just take the time to read it.
I need another Elevado shape in my life. For sure.
I’m confused. You asked for head material earlier. I mentioned it was in the review. You said you didn’t see it. So I copy and pasted it.

Just in case it ever comes up again, it is on the Cleveland website in the two links I posted a few posts above – According to Cleveland, both are milled from 304 Stainless.

But why wouldn’t Cleveland put it clear as mud on their site?
I read the review twice. I was top 1% nation in reading comp and english proficiency coming out of HS at least. :ROFLMAO:
I guess I’m stoopid. Thanks all. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
I think the question has been asked multiple times and the answer given multiple times: the Huntington Beach Premier and Huntington Beach are exactly the same putter minus color and grips.
I still want to see the Premier in person, but there is no doubt in my mind what it putts like since I was able to hit the standard version at the store.

I just went there on my laptop to copy and paste the info directly?? I’m not sure why I can’t see the same things you guys are.
It’s not there for the Premier, I swear. And you guys are getting nasty over a putter?? Ease up everyone.

Thanks. So the price difference is for the different shaft color or a different grip design (which is mentioned there are a couple shapes and sizes of just the stock options alone.) Or the head coloration process is more expensive?

I don’t work there and can’t answer your questions on cost. I assume the extra cost is the PVD finish and grip on the Premier. The lamkin SINKFIT standard or skinny is on the premier and not on the standard. The only other difference between the two putters is color. As far as material, it says the premier is made from stainless like has been answered and I see it on my phone

Ya know, there are so many options for clubs now. I’d really have to commit to replacing a club in my bag and focus on it alone.
Just trying to quick see what you can spec up is kinda time consuming now there are so MANY options. :ROFLMAO:
I was just looking at these for fun as I like that aggressive face milling. (y) Nice looking setup for the money.
I’d still contact my man at Cleveland before I ordered about the face material. Sorry. I have trust issues.;)
