Golfers tend to forget that as innovative as Cobra Golf has been in metalwoods, their irons have perhaps pushed boundaries even more. Not only were they among the first to create a distance iron which maximized length and consistency, they have borderline perfected it in the years that have followed. With what the F7 started so long ago, Cobra has never stopped to innovate and find ways to make improvement style irons that stand on their own as opposed to just being part of an annual release line.
You might not realize it, but Cobra’s irons are popular, and that is because in terms of performance, looks, ONE Length options, and price, they are hard to beat.
So what is a company to do? Keep on pushing, and with the AEROJET they have certainly done that.
Cobra AEROJET Irons
A notable piece of why so many enjoy Cobra’s game improvement iron releases is that they pay extreme attention to how the clubs look, specifically at address. With AEROJET, they have re-worked the topline to appear more pleasing at setup while also flowing into the hosel/neck in a more clean manner. Of course, the irons do showcase a red/blue color motif in line with the metalwoods, but many will be pleased to see it is a splash of accent color this time. That restraint means that the bushed chrome finish and black/carbon cavity accents pop in a very good way.
While looks are easy to make an initial decision, Cobra hopes what is under the hood is what really draws in people. Last year, the company introduced PWR-COR in its LTDx irons that put the CG behind the hitting zone to increase power. This year, Cobra realized it could be more efficient and effective, and so comes PWR-BRIDGE for the Aerojet irons.
The goal is always to get the CG as low as possible without sacrificing spin and speed, and there can be diminishing returns in other performance aspects. With PWR-BRIDGE, Cobra is using a floating weight design that is a 70g steel weight that sits entirely separated from the face, body, and sole of the iron. Yes, you read that right, using a Polymer Feel System that is injected around the weight to encase the hollow space they have allowed the PWR-BRIDGE to work and dampen vibrations to keep sound (feel) a pleasant experience.
Why is the PWR-BRIDGE such a big deal? It not only precisely places the center of gravity to hit the launch windows that Cobra wants for each iron in the set, but the space it creates now allows their legendary PWRSHELLface to flex 10% more, which means more speed. To further optimize things, the PWRSHELL also has a new H.O.T. FACE (Highly Optimized Topology) to create a variable thickness to optimize the added flex, namely making the thinnest portion of the face (1.9mm) 22% larger than in the LTDx. Head to head robot testing of the LTDx and AEROJET by Cobra showed up to 1.8 MPH more ball speed and 3.5 yards total distance. Also, for those concerned, yes, the company is adamant they kept an eye on spin consistency so as to make the AEROJET not just longer, but more repeatable than their predecessor.
The Details
Cobra’s AEROJET irons will hit stores and online retailers on 2/10/23 and come in both standard and graphite options. The variable length irons are $999 for steel (5-GW RH/LH, 4-PW RH) with the KBS Tour Lite 100 and $1099 for KBS PGI (85S, 75R, 65L, 55W) graphite in a combo setup (5H, 6-PW, GW). ONE Length are built to 37.25 7-iron length and are priced $999 for steel (5-GW) and $1099 for graphite (5-PW or 5H/6-PW) with the same shaft options.
As always Cobra is bringing an iron packed with tech to golfers at a price point which should keep a lot of people happy. Is there enough under the hood for you to go out and give the Cobra AEROJET irons a try? Let us know below or on the THP Community!
I really like how you mention that Cobra pays attention to the looks of these irons. I thought the LTDx irons looked way above average at address, and reading that they are put more time and effort into the shaping is music to my ears. Also very interesting on that 70g weight and how it’s implemented here.
I’m definitely in the market to replace my F7 irons this year, and the look of these does not disappoint. Longer and more repeatable than the LTDx is impressive.
These irons look good. Very subdued coming from Cobra who is known to push the envelope from an aesthetics stand point. I’m very interested in the One Length option!
Improvements sound amazing! Can’t wait to try these out!
These are some descent looking irons!
Only 100 dollar upcharge for the graphite is nice and these look really good. These look better than the ltdx for me and with a 22% larger sweet spot these should help a lot of people.

They had been more of sharp edges on the top line in the past and softening them can go a long way.
Great looking irons from Cobra!
The LTDx’s were amazingly easy to hit.
With a bigger sweet spot these should be also!
I’m just going to say it now I hope these get some serious love for the Morgan Cup since literally nobody put the LTDx in play last year. I have no doubt these are going to be fantastic.
Floating bridge? That’s wild. @JB I remember you posting a GIF a month or two ago of an iron face just catapulting a ball – was that the Aerojet by chance?

They will be in at least one bag in the One Length set up.

Yes sir it was.
Man, that is a great look for an iron of this profile.
4 iron slot be warned.
The 70g floating weight suspended and surrounded by polymers to keep in place and improve sound and feel 😳 ok this sounds pretty damn cool.

yeah that was kind of a bummer…but maybe this year someone will go this way. Cobra certainly has plenty of good options in the iron category.

They make some of, if not the, best looking irons in this class, other than the year with the carbon topline ?

Immediately thought of you in that spot when writing this. ?
I bet these will be towards the top of the “game improvement” category in all performance categories.
Exciting stuff. Looking forward to seeing these in the hands of some THPers

That is cool as hell.
Another beauty @Jman. If I was in the Morgan Cup this year these would ? be in my bag and I would bet by the time October rolled around my handicap would be lower

Same. And proof they’re not afraid to put it all out there, which is cool as hell.
Great work @Jman. I’m intrigued by the concept of having the weight floating within the iron head. If the magic polymers do their job it should be fantastic and a gateway to more improvements down the line.
I have a real hankering to try some OL this year again.
Pretty much identical to the LTDx visually.
Really like the look of those. Curious to see some size comparisons down the road.

There are some shaping differences, work was done to improve the visual and make them a little sleeker at setup.
These look much better than the LTDx imo. Between the look, the floating weight for better feel, and larger sweet spot, it would be hard to not give these a serious look this year for Morgan Cup participants. I’m sure we’ll see these in the bags.
Nice write up @Jman !
Nice looking set of Irons with a bucket full of tech in them.
Really looking forward to giving these a go in the OL version. Currently testing out a SpeedZone OL set which feel a little thick to me, so it will be fun to see how these compare
This style of iron is never my thing. But I have a friend that is playing the LTD irons and loved them. So this design fits some and that is awesome.
Love the look of these irons. The fact they carry PWR Bridge down through the irons is a branding win for Aerojet. I feel like I’m really going to enjoy hitting these. I may not need T-rails after all.
I bet these will be accurate monster’s and look pretty darn good!
I don’t know what to make of these. I don’t play irons like this really, and 1/2 shot testing never send to do them justice. I think they feel good for the type of iron they are, and they just seriously fly Like I said the other day I only got one a few times and I think they hurt the nut. ?
That’s all I got.
Wow! That “floating weight” is genius. And the looks are second only to the Hot Metals imo. These are awesome!
Are these considered GI?
Pretty cool tech in these. Nice write-up @Jman!
For all those guys who have talked about wanting to try/play one length – here you go. Look great for this style of iron and the tech is off the charts.
Great write up @Jman, getting PWR bridge in an iron is just crazy. Also this must be why @JB’s floating weight in an iron head video got bumped to the top. I assume that’s what we were looking at there.
If these are anything like the last 2 iterations they will be hot and high launching. These make long irons easy.
Without curvature on the face (like bulge/roll on a driver), what’s the effect of so much flex in an iron face when it comes to accuracy?

What is GI?
What I mean by that is what makes a club game improvement vs game enhancement vs players distance?

That’s where for cobra the H.O.T. Pattern on the face comes in to regulate and maximize different areas to create that consistency which some distance irons struggle with. I’ll add, Cobra has always done a great job at keeping spin playable, none of the old burner 2.0 nonsense we used to deal with.
Thanks @Jman for the review…. These look special IMHO and the availability in OL might make it an interesting test one day. Really hoping I’m not ‘forced’ into buying new irons this year 🙂
A
Love the article and can’t wait to hit these in a demo. I would have likely got a one length LTDx set if it hadn’t been for the Edel irons i have been playing. Not sure I can keep myself from getting a set of one length aerojet. Of course, my wife might have something to say about that ?
I know the MC is out for me this year due to some travel plans, but that doesn’t mean I can’t buy a set. At least, that is what my argument will be centered around..

Great writeup James, these irons deliver a Cobra feel and look across the board. Very glad to see Cobra continue this line, I hope we’ll see them in the bags of some of our Morgan Cup participants this year!

Very cool. I’m still a bit undecided on this based on my preference for looks, but they seem to be a must-hit.
