Back in January, we got a look at the new Cobra KING Tour irons with MIM technology at the PGA Show. Then a couple of months later, a pandemic happened that changed the landscape of the golf industry. Today, these irons that have been often discussed, but not available, become official.
Metal Injection Molding (MIM) technology is not brand new, but we are seeing it more and more due to the precision that it creates. Most recently for Cobra, their wedge designs have been gaining in popularity in part due to the precision shaping and overall performance. Unlike traditional forging or casting, MIM manufacturing utilizes few steps to create.
In the case of the Cobra KING Tour irons, a mixture of 304 stainless steel powder is heated and injected into a mold. Heating to even a higher temperature than most forgings, the result, according to Cobra, is a very tight grain structure providing an incredibly soft feel. The MIM process requires only moderate polishing compared to forgings to ensure the shaping is completely consistent.
“We’ve used our MIM process over the past two years to deliver softer and more precisely-shaped designs in our wedges,” said Tom Olsavsky, Vice President of R&D for COBRA Golf.
“Now, in response to demand from better players and our Tour staffers, seeking the same benefits in a full set of irons, our R&D team delivered the KING TOUR Irons. These irons are softer than any forged offerings on the market, and like their wedge counterparts, offer better consistency in shaping for more precision shot-making on the course. While soft feel and consistency are important in the short-game, optimizing these attributes throughout an entire iron set will give golfers better performance across a wider range of shot selections.”
A tungsten weight is positioned in the toe of the club to perfect the center of gravity (CG) directly behind the impact zone. The ability to manufacture this way allows for precision, but also stability. Moving from the toe to the small cavity, a TPU Insert is directly behind the sweet spot to dampen vibrations a bit and enhance the feel even more.
Cobra Connect is still in place and might just be the best value add in golf. Powered by Arccos, the system utilizes smart grips to track your data through the round. Each set comes with a 90 day trial of the Caddie App as well. For the loft peepers spec fans out there, here is a look at the specs.

Something tells me you’re right. They were pretty enough in chrome, but the copper is unbelievable. Is going to be the most fun I’ve had testing clubs I think!
You are what you wear! Bring. Eat? Whatever. You obviously think these represent who you are on a very deep level. And they are classy as ****, so that makes sense.
Best of luck on the golf date. That sounds awesome!
Good luck! Remember that the only way to truly impress a woman is to make your par 5s in 2 and make sure your outfit lets you peacock a little bit. Might I recommend:

“It’s all in the hips!” I’ll bow out now before I break some rule I’m certain I’ve not read ? enjoy your round.
You can’t fail with those beauties sparkling in your bag. Now remember, nice gentle grip and silky smooth tempo
Hahaha this made me laugh, but also appreciate how good these irons look. They do look good. I need to go out this weekend and set my eyes on the copper sets. Or maybe I don’t if I want to stay resolved on One Length.
I recognize that you have many different thoughts going through your head about the makeup of your MC bag. I hope you enjoy your fitting process. It should be fun to look at and hit the different Cobra offerings.
Baller move. I don’t know if I could go on a first date on the golf course. I am way too competitive. lol
BOLD MOVE COTTON. LET’S SEE HOW THIS TURNS OUR FOR HIM!
Forget the results for a second to let me just say; I am 100% convinced that the finish redefined my perspective on these irons. Copper looks INSANELY good on them, and is perfectly suited for the profile. While the shiny finish did very little to entice me, these screamed at me within a minute of arriving, and I kept grabbing one during my time there to just admire it.
I am so glad they did this.
I was supposed to take pics?!
If I was on one of the Morgan Cup teams the copper version would 100% be in my bag, hope to see them in a few guys bags so we can hear about them as well as see how the wear throughout the summer
Whether it be these or FTs in my bag, the copper isn’t even a contender, it will be there. I want to hit these so so badly.
Can’t wait to see you win some holes with them!
Pretty doesn’t sink putts
I’ll save my putting stats for the appropriate thread ?
He’s going to have a lot of Arccos data to process over the next several months.
I’m always watching…
Only so much "feel" you can get from back garden air swings [emoji22]
CAN NOT WAIT!?! my mims are just sat there all clean and unhit

Touché. These subsequent releases of something more cool irritate me. I would so much rather have the copper and would have waited had I known. I can’t justify selling mine simply to get the copper. Lots of other companies do this as a way to regenerate enthusiasm in a current release, so I shouldn’t feel differently in this instance. I guess I was voicing my hope that it wouldn’t happen here, but I am surely happy for those who get to have the copper in this awesome set of irons.
See the wear would be no problem for me, I would wear it out top to bottom, side to side not one little wear spot dead center!
I have seen them in person and I think that they are the best looking cavity iron that I have ever seen.
Agreed!
RF blades or why bother????
I can carry the RF blade 155 max. I have tried them. I’m about a club shorter and I can’t afford to give that up with my irons. When hit well, they are amazing. If not in the center, they hurt. I wish I had the game for them.
I actually think the chrome looks equally as good. And I hate polished chrome traditionally.
Hmm. I say you legit can’t go wrong. But my heart is happy you’re going with these. They’re amazing.
The one thing that might be considered beyond cosmetics is something I mentioned previously. On Cobra’s website, your order can request that the lofts be adjusted weak or strong in the chrome, but not with the copper. I ordered my MIM irons one degree strong, just to give me a few more yards through the set and to allow me to go from a 28* 6 iron into a 24* Utility or hybrid. If either of those is a consideration for anybody, it might be worth checking with Cobra to see if this situation is similar to the black wedges, which Cobra did not want to adjust.
This is fair. I think for many though if they get these they expect wear, so getting them bent somewhere and dealing with a little marring isn’t a biggie. But yeah, not being done from cobra is interesting.
The chrome does look fantastic as well, but that copper…
Agree. But….wear vs pretty much indestructible?
That is a very valid point. Why do you always make so much sense?
This is my where my mind is on these. I’ve lent my set out countless times (and to a couple guys who had some rough days out there, lol) and they look near mint. Copper is cool, but the chrome sets of these will look like pure class for a long time.
HAHA! I love that you’ll take one for the team on this one.
They’re EXCELLENT, and under talked about. If not for how my year set up (which I am still over the moon about), I wouldn’t have strayed from them. To me, the 921 Forged and these are just ABSURDLY good.
