Country Music Fans in Here!!

Something I have wondered, it seems to me there are a lot of country songs out there that will mention something along the lines of which old school country artist they listen to. Why is that? Is there some sort of street(dirt road?) cred that comes from doing this?

Yes and the same with fans. Not to say there aren't genuine fans out there too.

Example from the other night - Joe Nichols talks about how much he loves Merle Haggard and Willie and everybody cheers. He later plays a solo Willie song and nobody even knows what it is (at least based on the cheers he got).

Went to see Zac Brown last night. What an awesome show, definitely my favorite band by far.

Ole Zac used to play a good bit in Athens, Ga. around UGA.

My brother and his gf were there. I like zbb.

Let's see, Shania Twain on Monday night, JR Castillo and Kyle Park on Thursday night, Hazard County (local cover band) and Curtis Grimes on Saturday night. This week, Dr. Honky Tonk on Friday and Cody Jinks on Saturday night. You could say I like country music just a little.

That is hilarious and is pretty telling.

I would love to see Kyle Park, I bet that was a blast.

Yep, Kyle was great. I am very fortunate to live in the mecca of country music and no it is not Nashville:D This is what is happening around here just this week

This is very true. I can hardly listen to Country Radio much anymore. Grew up on Randy Travis, George Strait, Alan Jackson, etc. Kills me to see current artists "name dropping" the older legends, sounding nothing like them.

As a youngster raised in the foothills of the Blue Ridge, country music is all I heard. And when I say country music, I refer to "old time" country music. I heard the likes of Rory Acuff, the Carter Family, Roy Clark, Little Jimmy Dickens, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Lorreta Lynn. Conway Twitty, Hank Williams and Patsy Cline, among many others. When we finally got a TV, the Porter Wagner show was never missed. Even the "Grand Ole Opre" has moved to fancier digs. Don't get me wrong, I still love today's country music, but when I was a youngster, such music would have been considered "top 40". But then again, when I was a youngster Richmond International Raceway was just the fair grounds.

I have a few of them on my playlist now. I'm an old fart too so I have heard all of them. One of my good friend plays old honkey tonk music and also plays with Janie Fricke during the year. Her husband is my friends drummer.

Going to see Cody Canada tonight then Mark McKinney/Steve Helms and Trace Adkins tomorrow night. And throw in a Friday night football game along the way:D

Josh Abbot is actually in town tonight, and while he is not my favorite, he is still texas country which NEVER comes. My wife and I were going to go but I'm not sure if she will be done coaching in time.

We have Travis Tritt in town tonight. I've never seen him but if he starts singing some of his old stuff, it's going to be a great night

Jason Aldean last night, Rascal Flatts tonight...good start to the weekend.

If I remember right there are a few on here that appreciate the Turnpike Troubadours. New album came out this week and they keep putting out good music that includes some really good story telling.

Thanks man. He was one of the first country artists I started listening too. Glad to hear he plays a bunch of his old stuff too.

You're going to love it man. We were at his show last year in Minneapolis where he spotted the woman with cancer in the crowd holding a sign, brought her up by the stage and sang The Dance to her and gave her his guitar. I don't think there was a dry eye in the place and it's definitely something I'll never forget. Enjoy the show!
