Our super sweet to us COVID puppy is going to go to a 3 week away training camp to hopefully be a better dog right before Memorial Dayimage.jpg

It’s a Jekylle and Hyde situation with this one who is so sweet with us but overprotective and aggressive with anyone else.

Wish us luck.

Maverick has an appointment at the specialist tomorrow to see what they can do about his back legs. This is the same place that did both of his elbows last August. Just hope we can get him at least to a place where he can play and run without pain. Unfortunately it'll probably take another surgery.

Our Lhasa Apso, King Tut, has a sizable growth on his hind end. We had it tested and it’s benign. The Vet said unless it causes an issue with walking, sitting, or going to the bathroom, it’s not necessary to surgically remove it. It isn’t bothering him at all. Should we have it removed because it is unsightly or just let him live with it? Kind of afraid to do unnecessary surgeries at his age. Tut is at least 12 years old. We don’t actually know because he was rescued from the pound.

Maverick has bilateral avascular necrosis in his hips and will be getting a femoral head and neck ostectomy on the right side next week, followed by the left side four weeks later. The vet said he'll be able to run and play like a normal dog afterwards and he has a very good reputation, so I'm hopeful. This vet is in the same office as the doctor that did Maverick's elbows last year.

The good news is it won't be expensive... :ROFLMAO:

A little more reminiscing about some of the great dogs I've had. This is Warner, a German Shepherd/Black Lab mix. My younger daughter, and her four college roommates, rescued Warner in 2006, when he was just about six months old. Of course a couple of years later when they all graduated, my wife and I became Warner's permanent foster home (my daughter always insisted he was still her dog). Warner was a great dog, who would have expected five college girls to do such an incredibly good job of training a young dog.

About a year after we took in Warner full time, he got extremely sick, the Vet couldn't figure out what was wrong, and we almost lost him. He was finally diagnosed with Addison's disease, not too common in dogs, but treatable with medication, ongoing monitoring through extensive blood work, and maintaining a physically and emotionally stable environment. Most times you would never know he had a serious condition, but if something upset his routines he might be off for a few days. The worst part was that it takes a pretty serious toll on a dog, and shortens their lifespan considerably. Warner lived to be ten, which was much better than the Vet expected.

10-year old Warner, looking more like a 15-year old, but still such a joy to have for a while longer.

I have been up all night with arrow. He did not like wearing the cone in bed. On top of that, he’s an old guy and normally has to wear a diaper in bed at night because he leaks, but I didn’t have the heart to put the diaper and cone on him so of course we had a little accident.

So now I’m laying on the couch in the living room with him, at 4am, cone off, just trying to keep him calm and not paw at his eye. Seeing him in pain and so confused is absolutely heartbreaking.

I am not sure there is enough coffee in the world to keep me going today.

I hope he feels better soon! I’m up with a sick child too, I know your pain!

Poor boy. If he has to wear for a couple of weeks they do make a soft cone for dogs. Much easier to sleep in.

I was going to look into one of those today. I wonder if they will prevent him from rubbing his eye? Do you have one to recommend?
We used an E collar called comfy cone. I just checked and they sell it on chewy.com. love that place

The Velcro is a life saver getting the cone off versus plastic straps and using strings.
Plus it doesn’t fog or get disgusting since you can wash it.

Decently soft and you can take out plastic sections to make easier to lay with.

I just discovered this thread and couldn't resist introducing my putting mat partner, Charlie! He is a 2 year old Bernese Mountain Dog that my wife and I adopted from a local rescue when his breeder couldn't find a buyer. We've had him for almost 1.5 years now and he is our 104 lb. goofball. He enjoys watching me practice putting but doesn't stick around for the curse words that inevitably result.

A couple more pictures of Kona. This guy has been great, so calm and well behaved, not sure if its just his nature, or if having heartworms makes him quiet and lower energy.

He starts the really serious part of the heartworm treatment in a little under two weeks, which will start a really stressful month or so for all of us.

Nice looking pup, I have several Shepards they are calm in nature for the most part, he looks to be in great shape as well. He will make it keep positive thoughts.

If it isn't bothering him I'd let the old boy live with it. Like you say, surgery at his age would make me nervous.

We just lost our beautiful 12 yr old pitbull Maggie to cancer. 😢 She was rescued from an abusive situation and let me tell you, she was the best.

I love Arrow so much, I do, I love him more than anything in this world. He’s my baby, but right now it’s like he’s a newborn and if I don’t get some sleep soon, I am not sure I’m going to make it. At best I’m getting 4 hours a night, and that’s being real generous.

Thursday morning (stitch removal day) cannot get here soon enough!

That's always tough after a surgery. Still praying for him and hope you get some much needed rest soon Morgan!!
