My local union will be having their first golf outing this weekend ( scramble format) . Unfortunately I will miss most of it, but signed up to volunteer and help cook when the guys/gals turn for 9. These are my favorite events either a Charity/Group scrambles that I have participated in for the past 3 decades . The team atmosphere/ fun side games/ good food/ and all around fun make this an enjoyable time for me. I've been on my share of winning teams in many a scramble , really seems to bring the best out of me . Some guys are long drivers/the put in play guy/ approach shot specialists/ the captain type/ or the master putter. For me, I love the putting side of scrambles and always try and be the last putter to hit. I've made some unbelievable putts when the team was in dire need of it. Long bombs to a clutch 10 footer .. I always seem to pull it thru .

Who else loves these events and why? And what guy/gal are you on the team ?

I don't really do the big scramble tourneys. It's probably my second least favorite format all things considered.

When I've been in them, I've been the token short, but in the fairway guy off the tee.

THey are ok, I dont pay decent money to play in any big ones cause theres always stacked teams with guys that played in college etc that blow everyone out of the water.

I usually put decent, thats about it nowadays

Ehhh I am mixed. I enjoy them because you can have fun with your group. That said they usually mess my swing up for a good bit. I am usually nominated to be the hit it as hard and as far as you can guy. While it is fun it messes with me for a while after as that travels over to my normal game.

When you have a group where everyone is about the same skill level, scrambles can be fun. It's not fun when you play the same guy's shot. When I am in a scramble tourney, I tend to be one of the better players in the group, which says a lot about our chances to win the thing. #SlimToNone

With the groups I usually play in I always hit last. Advantages are if someone has a ball in play I can try and rip one out there, and if nobody has one in play I am confident I can put one in play. However I never go last in putting, my putting stroke is awful. I really only play in charity scrambles never any tourneys.

I am not fan of playing in scrambles for a variety of reasons. If it's for charity I will send my regrets along with a check. Personally I just do not find scrambles to be fun or a good use of my time.

Scrambles are fun a few times of year. I just find it hard to take them too seriously. The mindset I play with in a scramble is go for everything and hope someone else makes a playable shot if I dont.

I try to avoid them but usually am forced to play 1 scramble a year for work. They take too long and really are my least favorite format even though I've been on the team that has won a couple of these in the last decade.

No a huge scramble guy. Just can't really get into it when 75% of the field is there to get drunk and I want to play good golf. It's tough to get into a rthym for me during scrambles as well.

I always have fun in scrambles, and it has nothing to do with winning or losing. I'm always extremely relaxed and always have fun with my group. Scrambles also allow me to be extremely aggressive with my drives, approach shots, etc., which just makes it that much more fun in my opinion.

I do enjoy scrambles. There is a lot of interaction with the foursome, which I like.

I excel off the tee, especially if there is already a ball in play.

I enjoy scrambles. I'm usually the 1st to tee off to get one safe out there for the long hitters and the last one to putt after seeing 3 people give me the line.

Love a good scramble if for no other reason than it is pressure free golf. I don't ever go into them expecting to win, but to just have fun and they are always for a good cause. With the teams I usually play with I'm the clutch guy, so I always go last in case everyone else messes up. That also gives me the freedom to really go for it off the tee, so that's always fun.

I play in 2-3 per year, one of which I have played with my brothers for 20 years. That one is really fun. I get to see people I went to high school or college with. the other two are a little to stuffy for me, but Bedford Springs. . .I'll manage.

I play in a couple charity ones every year, one I just get put on a team so I show up to have a good time and support the cause.

I forgot to add I enjoy in playing in the " fun but score low scrambles" . I have also participated in a few " let's get drunk and act stupid" events and never enjoyed those . I tend to get annoyed when someone is so drunk and they can't even get out of the cart. Than the mindset turn from golfing to keeping these idiots from hurting themselves and others .

the weirdest one was a charity / local business association scramble . A local strip club had a team and also brought 4 or 5 strippers on the course who were removing clothing each time the team made a birdie. Lap dances and using the flag as a pole .

very embarassing when i played on a very Christian Church group conservative team behind them .

I don't play in big scramble tourneys, except for work scrambles, because cheating is RAMPANT. But sometimes I enjoy playing a 2 or 4 man scramble with friends for fun. I'm typically the ball in the fairway guy, as I'm not exceptionally long but I've got a fairly consistent tee game.

I don't play in a LOT of Scrambles during the year, let's be honest...there's usually a group that has a bunch of mid to hip caps that end up shooting 18 under or more, unless they are policed on each hole. lol

I'm usually the long hitter in the group, but I'm also typically the last putter as well.

I play a few a year with some buddies,.

Most importantly I make sure everyone is having a good time. I don't take these seriously usually I'm the guy who contributes one shot a hole, whether it be the approach, drive putt or chip, I'm usually good for one of those.

I probably play in 2 or 3 scrambles each year. I'm usually designated as the captain. The only rule I make is that I putt first!

I enoy scrambles. And when I'm playing one, it means I'm not in the office. I'm typically the 4th to go, so if I need to put a ball in play I will hit something shorter than driver. If not, I enjoy being able to let it rip. A few years ago I played with a guy who was an All-American in college and played on the web.com tour for a few years. He said he felt like he could have made it on tour if he hit the ball further. I believe him as he was the best putter/wedge player I have ever seen and extremely accurate off the tee. He knocked in one shot from about 120 and hit the pin from another.

Scramble s are fun for drinking a bunch of beer and letting loose, and I enjoy them when they come up but I don't take seriously at all. When I do play them, I'm usually the last guy off the tee/long bomber and the designated putt reader.

Another thing to add to a lot of these comments is "honesty" of the other teams. Its always a bummer when you and your team played great in a scramble only to find out that the winning team was -30 and you saw them shanking balls all day...

To be honest, I would rather play my own ball... but a good scramble now and then is always fun with the right people!

One of the bars here in town used to put on a scramble and had strippers out on certain holes. I played in it once (took 6 and half hours to finish the round), and only 7 out of the 36 teams even turned in a scorecard. It was an interesting event, but certainly not geared towards golfers.
