In for review to the Oklahoma branch of THP is the new Srixon 355 driver. Honestly, this one is still somewhat a surprising release to me not in terms of what it is attempting to accomplish or what gaps it plans to fill, but rather just seeing another release/line from Srixon already...it makes me happy to see them really jumping in on things.
The 355 is bucking several current trends, the first is that it is one of the most shallow faced drivers I have seen in quite some time, which is not what I expected when opening the box. The second is they are going to a HEAVIER head at 211g and a higher balance point (much closer to the hands) to try and max out stability and distance. Its nice to see someone going another way and presenting a different option for people. Additionally, its nice to see another cup-face design on a driver, its performance traits have been validated time and again.
Its a looker IMO, no frills, no muss, no fuss, just a really clean looking design and aesthetic package. Add in we see a return of Miyazaki in some form on US soil with the new counter-weighted Jinkosu shaft and the intrigue should definitely be there for many.
Information from Srixon on the 355:
Designed for massive distance, the Srixon Z 355 driver features Action Mass technology, which combines a higher head weight (211 grams) with an ultra-high balance point Miyazaki® Jinsoku™ shaft to help increase ball speed while promoting a more consistent, stable swing for players seeking maximum distance and forgiveness. The Z 355 driver’s 450 cc club head features QTS™ Adjustability, which offers 12 unique settings for loft, lie and face angle. A fast and powerful 6-4 Ti cup face creates an even larger sweet spot for increased consistency and distance off the tee. Available in men’s lofts of 9.5°, 10.5° and 12.0° (10.5° and 12.0° available in both RH and LH options) and women’s lofts of 12.0° and HL (15.0°), the Z 355™ drivers have a minimum advertised price (MAP) of $349.99.
