Their designs are bold, unique, a bit in your face, and absolutely contrarian to everything we as golfers have been programmed to think about putters. However, no matter where you stand on them, L.A.B. Golf is absolutely on fire right now.
It all started with their DB 2.1. It was a behemoth of a putter by all intents and purposes, but the one which brought L.A.B.’s “fully automatic” Lie Angle Balanced system into the golfing world. Today, we see the much requested evolution of that, a smaller but no less effective version, named the DF3.
L.A.B. Golf DF3 Putter
In case you’re unfamiliar, that “Lie Angle Balance” which was mentioned is the main technology behind the success of L.A.B. Golf. According to them, it is the only design tech which can keep the putter face square on its own. To make that happen, everything has to be accounted for, from lie, weight, length, and even the grip. It is then accounted for and balanced using the small weights in the heads which give the putters part of their unique look.
You can call them a disruptor if you want, but the reality is their putters are winning on LIV, the Korn Ferry, as well as the PGA Tour without them paying for play. The key to that success lies behind the “fully automatic” aspect. It is also why, despite golfers immediately clamoring for a smaller version of the DF 2.1, the company had to take its time to get things right.
That time let them get the new DF3 to perform with the same lie angle balanced and “fully automatic” nature of its bigger sibling, as well as the rest of the L.A.B. lineup: The MEZZ.1, MEZZ.1 Max, and LINK.1. Every aspect has been refined when it comes to the DF3, and though it still has an abstract shape, the size should be much more appealing to typical mallet users.
According to L.A.B. Golf CEO Sam Hahn, a key to getting the DF3 to work was that they now had years under their belt working and building Lie Angle Balanced putters. So, with the new model they were able to shrink the design, while keeping all the forgiveness and stability. Like the DF 2.1, the putter wants to guide itself on the way back and through with zero-torque which keeps it square throughout.
The Details
The L.A.B. Golf DF3 will be available in a stock version for $449 and the DF3 Custom which comes in at $559. The stock version comes in a black finish while the custom will open up a world of possibilities including eight colors (black, red, blue, cappuccino, platinum, pink, green, and orange), standard or counterbalance, various weights, and thirty-three different alignment markings.
For more information on any of the L.A.B. offerings, check out their website here.

Well since this is aDF putter and shake and style are similar but a bit smaller,
People who have tried both side by side should be able to have an impression of one is more stable or feels louder or softer….

I’ve played both. I am more comfortable with the size of the DF3. It feels slightly more solid than the DF2.1. I think you have similar weight in a slightly smaller package in the DF3. I do not have a problem hitting the sweetspot. When I do, I am very slightly off towards the heel side. SAM told me so – it’s something I work on.
Bottom Line – I’d play either one of them but prefer the DF3.
This putter is so good. Two 15 footers for par today. No short misses. It’s very stable.
It’s been almost 3 weeks since placing my order. I’m having withdrawals I think!

Usually another 10 days into production, and then notice for shipping
Can’t wait to get mine to compare against the mezz max broomstick, I have played around with counter balanced putters in the past and think the df3 will awesome
Convinced I’ve got the best alignment aid combo. Love the feel & look of TPT shaft too.

DF3 arrived (3/18 order date). This one has the heavier head. Feel is MUCH improved vs. DF1.
I finally got out to play as I actually was expecting more but 16 putts for 9 holes I really can’t complain. You see I had 7 birdie tries but only made 2 that were for 12 and 15 ft. My confidence level was pretty high but the greens were pretty slow as I could not dial in the speed. We have had som much rain lately as most of my putts were directly right on line just 1-2″ from going in the hole, bummer as I was on my way to a very nice round. I was pleased with a 39 as I even had a triple boogie and boogie so maybe next time I can do better.

Has anyone experienced the feeling of “weightlessness” with these putters ans how do you fight it? I have a mezz max that when I’m ok is great. But if I take it back anything other than optimal, it feels like the club is out of control and there is no torque to feel how to return it square

Haven’t felt that with the DF3. I use a shoulder stroke and do not use hands and wrists.

If I went DF3 I would custom the heavier weight..
I chose the DF2.1 as I felt it had more weight in the head and tracked in a way that felt a bit more stable.

Finally got around to taking a few photos of my DF3. It’s a 36” CB version with the heavy head and TPT shaft. I have gamed it for a few rounds. Overall I really like the putter, still working thru distance control issues. The first few rounds I used a left hand low grip (how I had been putting with my old putter) but yesterday evening I used a butterfly style with much better success. Still need more time with it but liking what I have been seeing so far.

Vertical Line covers length of ball
Vertical and Horizontal lined up has ball on sweetspot
I prefer few lines but I had this one on my original DF and it worked well.

I went with the vernier acuity lines like my Sacks Parente putter has. They have really improved my putting the last few years.
My DF3 has been in production for a week now so hopefully I see it soon!
I lipped out seven times today and hence I’m here. Liking what I’m reading.

Have folks been fit into lie angles they they been fit into before? Or does this putter change things?

I am flatter with these putters as determine by a remote fitting.
I hit one of these yesterday at PGASS. Definitely rolled amazing. Crosses the line visually for utility versus looks. I could see why it appeals to people but it was so ugly to look at for me.

My DF2.1 I was 35 and a 72 on the lie. On the new DF3 I went 34 with a 71 from the Sam putt lab and taking various models out on the greens to try. I have been working on changing up my set up and the shorter putter was better.
I’ve thusfar avoided doing something silly.

I can only report results on my putting green and the range’s real grass green. Too much travel lately.
It’s a wonder for me. And yes, It’s great to go in the backyard and spend 10 minutes several times a day to work on technique and putting, Changed to left hand low, arms resting on front of ribcage and just letting the right shoulder back, left shoulder back control everything. With this putter, you do not rush, you just put the energy into the stroke but you do not rush the downswing.
And I do think they’ve improved the DF since 2017, it has more heft. For me, the DF3 has better feel off the ball.
Any putter, as you know, only works consistently if you have the right setup. I reviewed everything on Porzak Golf because he knows the setup although I don’t do a torso-driven stroke as they do.
But once you are setup correctly, you have the confidence that you can just relax over the putt and you believe that you can make everything.
This one tempts me but I want to expensive setup so it helps keep me from buying one.

I do have an old Ping Anser, SeeMore FGP (for training), and Edel Mallet – but they are more for people to use on the backyard green except for the SeeMore

Got an unexpected text that my DF3 was here. I was actually on my way to go practice so i practiced with the DF3! Going to try and sneak in at least 9 before the weekend rounds. Went with the Accra shaft, heavy weighted head and the 3* press grip. My 40 minutes of practice was fun.
