New Mizuno drivers are hitting stores soon and we got a chance to put them to the test in the THP Tech Studio. The latest iteration represents the culmination of the company’s 3-year, rapid-fire driver development project.
Before jumping into the video and testing, we want to mention one of the more fascinating aspects of the drivers, the new SAT2041 Beta Ti face. What does that mean? SAT2041 stands for Super / Alloy / Titanium / 20% Vanadium / 4% Aluminium / 1% tin and it offers 17% more tensile strength and 8% more flexibility than traditional 6-4Ti. In other words, stronger and faster than previous offerings.
“Most of our ST200 tour feedback was on the sensory side, a desire for a sound our players generally described as solid or dense,” said Chris Voshall from Mizuno. “We spent the next year working on improving feedback, hand in hand with releasing the additional ball speed we knew was left in our SAT2041 Beta Ti face.”
Unlike many videos which feature us testing the equipment, we figured we would do something a bit different today. We brought Chris Voshall into the Tech Studio and had him put both heads to the test and discuss not only the differences between the new ST-X and ST-Z drivers, but also the changes made from the last release…all while he hits balls in our hitting bay so you can see the ball flight and hear the impact sound. Watch the Mizuno ST-X and ST-Z Driver Review below.
Mizuno ST-X and ST-Z Driver Review
Shaft options are aplenty for those looking for choices. The ST-Z standard shafts are Project X EvenFlow Riptide or HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX as well as a Fujikura Motore X. Switching to the ST-X the options are the same EvenFlow RipTide from Project X or Motore X as well as a light weight Mizuno option called MFusion. All of which will be available in the fitting matrix software called the Mizuno Shaft Optimizer 3D you can find at retailers.

Definitely impressive, I am really looking forward to seeing the profile of the STG beside the X and Z. Sure hope I get a chance to see these in hand at some point this year
The 9th – trying to show how much uphill it plays but the picture does not quite do justice. Aimed straight up the RH treeline with a tiny draw.

The 16th – dogleft left, drawing the ball around the trees from tee tucked behind the trees up on the hill.

Such a great head. I’m genuinely excited to hit it again this weekend, which is weird for me haha
Yup, it offers pretty much everything, impressed to say the absolute least
ran a few through the fairway, pushing 320 on a couple in pretty miserable rain last weekend. dropping the loft has protected against the hook and dropped the launch a bit. Pretty smitten. I still don’t think my shaft is quite right either.
Finally have some time to play?
Not after the wreck yesterday. ?
Monday starts 2 and 3 round a-day’s though. Will be nice to actually try and get my **** in order before the end of July
I need to come visit, but I fear my back will give out after 2 days
you get banged up? Serious. End of july has me quite golfing motivated..
no no..
it’s fine. You’re fine.
We will go play the Patriot. I have an in. ?
Hahahaha, it’s anything but fine. Sliiiiiiide and slide. ?
I got lucky, and no kiddos in the car too. I’m ready to be selfish on my own game for a while, that’s for sure.
wrecks are no fun.. .Seriously glad you are ok.
flights booked
11 of 14 Fairways hit and only two slices… One I tried to fade around a tree turned a bit stronger.
Really comfortable in a game and nice price for such stuff. A+ from me as well. I guess I’ve already seen its review at allgolfreviews recently. Maybe I’m wrong. But it doesn’t change the fact that it’s extremely good stuff.
I’ve got no nits to pick. Just love.
Year of the driver. People laughed when that was said in the winter, but the reality is there’s not a bad driver on the market.
For sure. That is why I say you cant draw too many conclusion but. I still think it is pretty awesome that one of the cheapest drivers out on the market is being shown to be a high performer.
Man, it feel like the year of the everything golf. These OEMs are getting extremely good.
Yup, and the gaps between them are getting miniscule. It’s wild to really sit down and think about.
Because with their adapter the 10.5 can be taken down to 8.5, sot of versatility in their adapter setup.
I get that but wouldn’t that open up the face like the other adjustable adapters?
It will, but it’s also a draw biased head to start, though imo calling it that leads people to incorrect assumptions. Plus, even as a guy who fits into 9.0-9.5 drivers now, the 10.5 has not been too high of a launcher or spinner, at all.
I agree that the X is just a great head that works with my swing and punishes the ball for some great penetrating ball flight and increased distances.
Oh, the dream to hit drives like this. 340+ drives and fairway. I can only dream
well after this week dreams are closer (not sure 340+ closer), but distance and dispersion will be working in your favor.
I don’t know about 340 craziness, but I do know what I’ve seen for months with this one has been nothing short of impressive.
