New Mizuno drivers are hitting stores soon and we got a chance to put them to the test in the THP Tech Studio. The latest iteration represents the culmination of the company’s 3-year, rapid-fire driver development project.
Before jumping into the video and testing, we want to mention one of the more fascinating aspects of the drivers, the new SAT2041 Beta Ti face. What does that mean? SAT2041 stands for Super / Alloy / Titanium / 20% Vanadium / 4% Aluminium / 1% tin and it offers 17% more tensile strength and 8% more flexibility than traditional 6-4Ti. In other words, stronger and faster than previous offerings.
“Most of our ST200 tour feedback was on the sensory side, a desire for a sound our players generally described as solid or dense,” said Chris Voshall from Mizuno. “We spent the next year working on improving feedback, hand in hand with releasing the additional ball speed we knew was left in our SAT2041 Beta Ti face.”
Unlike many videos which feature us testing the equipment, we figured we would do something a bit different today. We brought Chris Voshall into the Tech Studio and had him put both heads to the test and discuss not only the differences between the new ST-X and ST-Z drivers, but also the changes made from the last release…all while he hits balls in our hitting bay so you can see the ball flight and hear the impact sound. Watch the Mizuno ST-X and ST-Z Driver Review below.
Mizuno ST-X and ST-Z Driver Review
Shaft options are aplenty for those looking for choices. The ST-Z standard shafts are Project X EvenFlow Riptide or HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX as well as a Fujikura Motore X. Switching to the ST-X the options are the same EvenFlow RipTide from Project X or Motore X as well as a light weight Mizuno option called MFusion. All of which will be available in the fitting matrix software called the Mizuno Shaft Optimizer 3D you can find at retailers.
The Details
In Stores: February 2021
Cost: $400

Certainly. YMMV. But to see a skilled golfer hit Club A, which is supposed to do this, and Club B, which is supposed to do that, and actually see them do this and that – well, I gotta determine the YMMV for myself! I give myself more credit than I should for being brand agnostic, and the Mizunos would not have been on my list of candidates. Now, it’s one I definitely have to hit.
I’ve been having this same thought as I transition into a different head shape than I had I the past. Larger, more forgiving, but something just feels off. I wonder what mental gymnastics my mind plays.
?
out for delivery?
Sooooon.
Thoughts how? They’re “real” if that’s the question, not watered down, and the stock options are as good as anyone.
Go get fit!!
I went in thinking the Motore shaft would be perfect and had much better results with the Ventus Black as a good example. It’s a great club in any case, and even better with the proper shaft.
I’m torn between those and the Diamana Limited I had so much fun with in the SIM last year.
It’s a favorite of mine this past year. I gamed one in a SIM for a good bit.
No, not "real" just how they feel or positives and negatives about any of them. When I go to their respective websites they all sound amazing. Don’t know how much is marketing vs real results.
I have Ping Tour 65 now, which is fine, but I might wanna a little higher flight. But, that’ll happen just going from 9 degree to 10.5 degree. My all time favorite is Motore Speeder VC.
I’m thinking I’ll go either Motore X or Smoke RDX.
The Motore’s are imo pretty fantastic, the F1 and F3 make for a lot of great options for a lot of people. And no up on them is killer.
The demo/loaner head I have is 196g, which I believe has a 4g aluminum weight plug (heavier steel version is 11g from what I recall). Easy enough to bring the weight up or even down. Great looking for sure – excited to get it out on the course soon.

EDIT: The blue plug is 11g steel which this one has.

I need to hit this. Hard.
They and Tour Edge are hitting that price HARD for all the tech in the heads. It’s a lot of fun to see.
This driver easily competes with the top dollar drivers out there. Smart for mizuno to come in at a very strong price..
Agree. I mean, they’re where Cobra WAS living and under Srixon too. Literally TE is the only one also hitting 399 I believe.
It’s an unbeatable deal, especially if you fit in to one of their ‘stock’ shafts. Even better, the up-charge versions are ridiculously inexpensive compared to the purchase price of the shafts from vendors.

Hope its me haha, but whomever gets to go, I will certainly be keeping a close eye and follow.
I just keep watching videos and looking at pictures haha. Looks are so good and glad the performance is there with it (or at least seems to be)
they sound so good. my thought was 5w, turned down to 4w, built a little over length. with the speeder 7. i call it the internet golfer special.
I went 5w, and cannot wait!
I was thinking of doing similar. By going with a 5 wood and turning it down to a 4w, does that cause it to be more fade biased?
What driver is currently in the top spot?
Tsi3.
It’s really good. I have not tried the srixon even though I have heard it is good. Just have not had the opportunity yet. I have seen it and looked at it but not hit it.
The cobra is really good as well. It might be right there with mizuno. Maybe even after some fitting right there with titleist.
I think the callaway and taylormade are just a touch behind. But that is for me and me alone.
Right on, I haven’t had a chance to see let alone hit the Srixon or Mizuno and probably won’t unless I go to Edmonton at some point. I wish I gave the Tsi3 more of a chance than I did. Spent some time with the sim2 and Callaway heads. Callaway came on top for me which surprised me as I haven’t gotten with their drivers in a while
I dont think you will be disappointed.

i want something to launch. i want something to spin. and i want something to NOT go left. the stz really seems to check those boxes.
Appropriate use of the word “nuts”. @Canadan would approve.
Hoping my 5w ships this week!
i NEED your thoughts on this. i’m thinking 5w turned down to 4w loft. open it a bit.
I’m excited about it, early feedback is it’s exactly what I’m looking for in a 5w.
Can not wait to see your review. Looking at it online this may be the 5W that finally gets my old 2016 JPX EZ out of my bag!
I’m excited, both to kick the SIM out and to see if the fairways deliver on the SUPER big hype they’re creating
