The Ben Hogan Golf equipment brand has had as many twists and turns over the last near decade. The building blocks of the new company started back in 2013 and they was shipping and selling product right before 2015. In the middle of 2016, much of that changed, and through more twists and turns, a new management team was brought in to run the show.
There are a lot of pieces to that story that for now, can be left unsaid, but since that time, the Ben Hogan brand in hard goods has been running in Ft. Worth. The company seemed to be doing rather well over the last couple of years with solid messaging, a tremendously underrated product and things were looking up, including the ability to be fit for the products at Club Champion, a premier nationwide club fitter.
Over the last few months, we have been receiving a lot of information and unfortunately, earlier this week the majority of the employees were let go. We can also confirm that the office is closed as of today.
With all of this said, we don’t want to say that there will not be more Ben Hogan equipment in the future. What we can verify is the company, as it stands currently, is closed.

Without revealing too much, to say I have talked to a few on this matter would be an understatement.
From the previous President of Ben Hogan. To the President before that. To the last two marketing directors, head of warehouse, social media, parent company and even two individuals/companies that had an interest in buying them. Its safe to say my research is complete and that I still don’t have an answer for you.
I can say there are some talks taking place, but it would not be what most people think it would be. I do believe the name has value, but is it enough for a full blown equipment company? Not sure on that.
It wasn’t the product, the gear was good. Especially the wedges.
In the ranking of things that I believe sunk them, that is pretty far down on the list.
Fair enough. As an ex-workout guy, I’m looking forward to learning more.
The only other way I can describe it is that Callaway, TM, or Titleist cannot sole survive on the forged offerings.

I totally agree. I propped up their equipment so much I was able to get a couple of buddies and my brother to buy irons and wedges from them.
Like @JB said, I think the brand name has value, but is it enough for a full club line?
BHG has to pay Perry Ellis for the rights to use the name, correct? That would be the first hurdle. Who wants to rent their brand name?
Fair enough, I looked at funding as as revenue for both, not enough sales means not enough money for development
The Edge EX, PTX Pros, putter line, and Equalizer all had very good performance. The clubs themselves weren’t the issue I don’t think
In the Hogan case, the gear performed very well.
And one of, if not the, best value in golf. It’s just a shame all around.
I don’t disagree with you guys one bit. I had some of the original Hogan wedges back when Terry Koehler was president, and they were good wedges. Performance is not the main issue……..I just think it’s hard to rely on a name for a product, especially when it’s not well advertised…and by that I mean nationally/
I had a set of PTx irons and the wedges….the irons felt very good..didn’t care for the loft but that was a personal preference. The wedges had the beveled leading edge which I liked a lot. Although they felt good, I really wasn’t too keen on forged clubs, so I changed!

I love my set, even tho I’m rotating them out to my vacation set.
Whatever there finish was for the black is so durable as well.
DBM is THE best finish on the market. Period. Such a high quality finish, and amazing that they put it on those irons at the price point they did.
Those irons are instant cult classics in my book, both the PTx Pro and Icon.
Don’t forget the EQII in the same finish
No joke about the dbm finish. So so good.

I would also like to see a full blown R&D, we know the line is solid but it has to improve. Maybe without the constant 1-2 year release cycle which the industry loves but without enormous budgets is impractical
I think first they would need components to fulfill orders that are still outstanding that have been paid for.
I could see a Sub70 or similar getting involved.
I was about to ask this question, wondering how many ordered are floating out there now.
I know that everybody jumped on our story since we broke the news, but not a day goes by that I dont get another email from someone that has been waiting weeks or months for an order
That’s heartbreaking to hear because their customer service was really good when they were at full speed. This is a real problem, and I wonder if PEI will get involved since its doing damage to the brand.
Hopefully there is funding in place to support getting product in hand and paying the builders to finish all outstanding orders, or in the very least fully refund any customers who are waiting.

Worst part is, PEI has to draw the line somewhere, and it looks to have been drawn. There are no employees, so there is no way to ship product. The End.
Sounds like it, guess chargebacks have to happen if they can.

Reading this really saddened me. I have been through work experiences that included layoffs and closures. It’s tough for a person and their families. I have only personally met two people who worked for Hogan and they were both top notch individuals. I wish them success going forward and have little doubt they will find it.
I really wanted Hogan to keep growing. Even before I was lucky enough to be part of their experience last fall, which remains my best golf memory. Absolutely a quality product and a great, modern take on a traditional brand that both took them into the current state of technology while keeping a solid grasp on their heritage. That’s not an easy act to pull off. I know I will be playing my EdgeEX irons for years to come.
Thanks to Ian, UPS have no clue where my set of Pro Combos & matching EQII wedges are.
They were shipped to Naples as my FL set, last scanned in Naples then everything went Pete Tong with the hurricane messing stuff up, I’ve had to launch a claim and investigation since they’ve been MIA since previous Monday (before the storm hit).
Annoyed I didn’t chase this faster last week as they say it’s between 5-10 days for the investigation.
