Are you debating walking more on the golf course this season for the health benefits it offers? Bag Boy has an interesting device that makes these items easier to track without having to wear anything on your wrist. Since today is National Walking Day, there is no better chance than showcasing the Bag Boy Tracker.
KEY FEATURES
- Accurately record your time, distance and calories burned all from the convenience of your mobile phone
- Review your history by golf rounds and lifetime statistics
- Bluetooth connectivity creates a seamless look and eliminates the need for wires
- Convenient display map saves the course path of each round played
- No hassle set-up with quick and easy installation
- Extremely lightweight at only 0.1 lbs
- Easily attaches to any golf push cart in the market
- App is free of charge and available for download on Android and IOS devices
The free app, which accompanies the device makes the data really stand out. Everything from mapping of your route to the amount of calories that you burned during your last round. All while having nothing connected to your body that might cause an issue with comfort during the swing.
“What many golfers don’t realize about walking the course is that it not only makes you healthier, but it actually helps you play better,” said Craig Ramsbottom, President of Bag Boy. “When you’re walking, especially with a push cart, you’re keeping your muscles loose without overstraining them—and that makes a huge difference in the way you swing.”
The cost is relatively low being the same as many premium balls by the dozen. Coming it at just under $50, the Bag Boy Tracker might be something worth keeping an eye on if you plan to get out and walk a bit this year.

I like the size of it. I don’t like wearing a watch while playing. Went on to the website and couldn’t find if there was any kind of weather protection. It’s always raining up here… As a walker, definitely going to look more into this.
Wife and I have always talked about trying to track the miles each year – but really never a viable option. This is a real possibility. Wonder if you have to “Start” it each time or will it track the distances even if it’s not started. I’m sure its a no, but would be a nice option.

I believe it should be of little concern. The inside appears to be concealed rather well.

Good question, good answer. I was thinking the same thing because my cart wheels are covered in mud after a good many rounds.
This looks pretty ingenious. Tracking data is so popular now and for those that are not fans of wearing a watch, etc. this looks like a great addition.
I’ll be the dissenter. I think that the majority of people that would be interested already track their steps etc with a fitness tracker of some description. There’s already a very crowded market for a step/distance/calorie tracker with a lot of them at or under Bag Boys price point.

I think thats fair. With that said, a lot of those items must be on the person, and golfers there is a large group of golfers that dont like to wear a watch, carry their phone or have something in their pocket. This is where an item like this shines in my opinion.

I get that completely.

I wonder what the formula is that it uses to track calories burned?
Apple Watch uses my heart rate, movement, and personal metrics like height and weight.
Does Bag Boy just have a standardized formula that they then guesstimate calories burned based on distance traveled? I love data and tracking it in relation to golf but I guess this isn’t a device for those that already own a fitness tracker.
Nice Gadget for those that don’t own or want to wear a fitness device on their wrist.
Perfect gift for the Golfer that has “Everything” and no one knows what to buy them for their birthday.
I think this is a cool product, but I am a 2 watch guy. Apple Watch tracks my steps and Garmin GPS tells me how far to hit the ball…
very interesting gadget. Does it need to be charged before every round in some way?

No, I believe it uses a common CR2032 battery, which would last hundreds of rounds.

Just like with an Apple Watch, Fitbit, etc. Calorie tracking will be wildly inaccurate.
The values produced by any of these devices should be taken with a metric TON of salt.

That looks just like the cadence sensors we used for cycling. They were completely waterproof and zero issues being in the rain. The battery life was really good it took forever it seemed like to die. That is a cool addition if you want to track all of your walking on course. No charge for the app is nice also.
I mean it’s cool, it’s small but it also seems like something you don’t really need. No way the stats are accurate being on a wheel compared to being on your person. Also unless the app has GPS tracking for your round I don’t see the need for another app or device

The distance tracking I would think would be very accurate.

Sure distance is accurate but most fitness apps track steps not wheel revolutions ????? I guess it’s no different than tracking distance on a bike ride, I just don’t see how it could be accurate for calories burned, etc.
This is interesting. I have an Apple watch I wear outside of golf. During golf, I wear the S62. Recently I bought the ShotScope ProLX+, and one of the hesitations for me has been that I like to see my steps after a round. This year is going to be a much more concerted effort to increase the number of rounds I walk, so I like to see the steps and movement, so trying to get away from the S62 represented a bit of a barrier.
While this seems like an incredibly niche product, I think I might be in that small target market.

The issue is though is it isn’t tracking all of the steps you are taking on the course, only the steps while pushing the cart. I have tracked mine both while riding and while using the Zip Navigator and there is a huge difference. Even riding in the cart you can still walk 3 miles on the course, so not having a way to track while you are not pushing the cart you are going to miss out on a lot of steps.
Overall it is a good idea.

Nothing is accurate for calories burned though.
I think for what this thing is trying to do, it is a neat idea. Allowing someone to track their activity without wearing a fitness tracker. Neat idea.
I’m sure these will sell but I don’t have a need as I already wear an Apple Watch. This wouldn’t give me an accurate reading as we have many parallel fairways and some back tee’s and my push cart doesn’t travel the full length of the course on 8 holes. I leave my cart near the the 11th green and don’t pick it up again until after my tee shot on the 13th hole. Combined with my walking around on greens I’m guessing it would record about a mile less than my Apple Watch on 18 holes.

True but things like Fitbit and Apple Watch are way more accurate. I think it’s a neat idea but it misses for me. Like I said if the app had course GPS I could see the benefit easier.

Understood, but way more accurate, when it is still, at a minimum 27% off all the way up to 93% off based on medical studies, doesn’t really instill confidence.
Either way whether it is this device or an Apple Watch or Fitbit, none of them are accurately measuring calories burned.
It’s interesting and definitely should have a market for those who like stats but don’t like watches or having their phone on them when golfing. The price is right, too. That being said, I feel like at this point nearly anyone who was curious about tracking those stats already has a way to do so.

This was my thinking. I can do most of these things with my phone and a app. But I think it looks good. It is a neat package and easy to use for those who are looking for these data points and don’t already have a device.
I can also see some kinda tracking in newer carts with the way tech is going.
I think seeing the “path travelled” on the course might be hilarious with some rounds…left rough, right rough, bunker, blade over the green, back to green…two fairways over back to the correct hole, etc

I’m actually really interested in this. I wear my Shot Scope on one wrist and my fitbit on the other wrist while playing. It would be great to not have to do that.

Nice idea and a good finished product. Not sure I really need something like this. The data this provides isn’t something I really need/want. ????
