The THP experience hangover is hitting hard. Lack of sleep and adrenaline crash is real. And I hope to be fortunate enough to experience it again! ?
Had a bit of a travel adventure this morning (the gate agent not showing up for work is cool right?) but was happy to make it home only 45ish minutes later than originally expected.
Had lunch, shower, 4-5 hour nap, niece’s soccer game and now chilling with my wife. If I can stay awake, I will start getting caught up on the 80+ pages I’m behind. Otherwise, it’ll be tomorrow sometime. ??
After some delays getting home last night and having to go into the office for a bunch of meetings today, I’m finally able to sit down and catch my breath a bit after a whirlwind last few days.
A huge thanks to @JB and @GolferGal for making this such an incredible experience. I can’t even imagine how much planning goes into organizing an experience and this one was first class all the way, as we’ve always seen. The dinners you organized were just phenomenal. I couldn’t have planned out better meals even if I tried. I mean, one of everything on the menu for dinner? Big Beef Experience? Truly amazing.
@EdelBlake and Mike. I had a great time meeting you and chatting with you about everything Edel. You both have so much passion for the company and it sounds like there’s a lot of great stuff in the pipeline. The B-1 and SMS wedges were fantastic in the two days I used them and am looking forward to these giving me the much needed help in my short game and putting. I am excited to follow along as the company grows and you most certainly have an unofficial brand ambassador in me.
@shanewu @Wildcat @JohnSinVA @JonD – it was great meeting all of you and just having a chance to tee it up together over the course of a couple of days. Experience wouldn’t have been the same without you guys and couldn’t have asked for a better group. While I absolutely enjoyed the golf together, I equally enjoyed our conversations over drinks and watching us struggle to play tee ball with a bat made for a 2 year old.
Ballyhack is an incredible course and so picturesque. Probably the toughest course I’ve ever played with those greens, but so much fun to experience. I had some disastrous holes, but I also hit some incredible shots and enjoyed every minute trying to tackle Ballyhack one shot at a time.
Thanks to everyone who followed along. I skimmed the thread during, but will most definitely be making my way back through the thread to read every single one of your posts and re-live the experience.
Lastly, to the 4 brave souls who put their coins on me to take down @Wildcat in singles, I was thinking those coins were gone as soon as you made that bet. You guys like to live on the edge!

Exactly. I was a little upset because I made the same mistake, but you have to be on the green there. Especially if you have my wedge game. All you can do there is chuckle at it though. The first day I was super happy I could keep it on the green. It’s obviously a low percentage putt so even 1/5 would have been a good result for me.

Some of them were. By the end of the second day we started figuring them out a bit. Back tier on 9 with a front pin though is just a recipe for disaster.

Follow up….
What weight setup would it take to get the B-1 with a short plumber to around 25º
Following up on this one. I tried to play around with this weighting the other day and the toe hang seems to change very little and not from 45* to 25*.
I took a few practice putts on the carpet and did not like the big weight difference in toe vs heel. The toe was swinging closed with that much variance and it threw off my putting stroke.
I’m thinking it would probably be best to go with the single bend in the B-1 if you’re trying to get less toe hang. Will get you to 30*.
Standard 15g weights in toe and heel

15g heel + 5g toe

20g heel + 5g toe

Just to see, 15g heel + no weight in toe

I’ve been eyeing them since I saw his first post with it.
The Quest Cup at Ballyhack was absolutely incredible … damn near perfection really. It was even more special to me since I hadn’t been in a THP experience since the 2018 Grandaddy.
Arrival day was so exciting, just getting to enter the place and see the things THPers have been showing us during previous events. We did some damage in the pro shop and got to say “hi” to some G fam members, which was a nice bonus! The food was so damn good during dinner…just having the caesar salad and seared tuna would have made it one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The togarashi seasoning on the tuna just took it over the top. I had some super tender steak and great sides as the main dish, and that Atlantic beach pie was an awesome surprise. While we were amazed at all the food that was brought out, the conversation and laughs were off the charts! Fellowship and building friendships with THPers is something I will always cherish. We followed all that with night putting…such a unique and humbling experience to mess around on that 18th green. I think we all tried the impossible putts that require giant swings and grunts just to get within a block of the hole. LOL.
Day 1 of competition was really fun. Before putting the peg in the ground, we got to enjoy some excellent breakfast. The bacon was definitely some of the best I’ve had in a while. On to the golf… It was a privilege to tee it up with my teammate @EdelBlake and our opponents @Wildcat @JB … they were as tough and steady as I thought they would be. I think Blake and I would love to have another chance at some of Blake’s tee shots. I don’t think the caddie was realizing how far Blake could hit it, which took us out of at least one hole when the caddie said “driver hole” although it was not for Blake. All good though … we had an awesome time and made a good team. Lunch was great: I had the turkey caprese melt and onion rings. The sandwich was huge and I couldn’t finish it, but I did finish the awesome onion rings. For the second round of the competition, I was fortunate enough to be paired up with Mike Pai from Edel (“N/A” on the scorecards haha). Mike is a low single digit handicap and is super steady all around. It was 9-hole alt shot, and we played really well as a team against JB and @JonD … the win was a little bittersweet since JB wasn’t anywhere near his best due to his infection/pain. I told Mike we need to team up again next year. 😎 Most of us did a little more joyous (@Muchmore :sneaky:) damage in the pro shop after the golf. A few hours later we were lucky enough to enjoy another amazing meal and more fun and entertaining conversation. The salad (yes, the salad, THP) and steak were really good. Never knew strawberry cobbler was a thing until that night, and it was quite tasty!
Day 2 of golf of course started with another excellent breakfast. The pancake and bacon were perfection. I think I hit a few balls on the range and was getting excited to take on @JonD in singles. It meant a little more to me since Jon and I have the G fam connection. He was riding with @JohnSinVA who was taking on my teammate Mike Pai from Edel. After a good drive and a playable miss right of the green, I decided to forget how to chip and hit a shank and duffed the next one while Jon had a tough greenside lie or two … anyway, I won the hole with a friggin’ triple and thought it was going to be a loooong match for both of us. o_O Thankfully I turned the ship around and really only had like 1 maybe 2 bad holes after that. I got a few great breaks that resulted in really great shots and overall played my best so far during the experience. Jon was a ton of fun to play with … I honestly don’t know if I’ve ever seen someone so graceful in defeat. It was an honor to go up against him, and I hope I use that round as inspiration for when things don’t go my way in the future. After the match, we squeezed in a quick lunch and @Wildcat @JohnSinVA and I took advantage of the opportunity for some bonus golf. I wish everyone could have joined us, but we had fun hacking around out there, trying to figure out some things on the front 9 holes.
I’m still surprised that we didn’t get rained on at all. We were quite fortunate that the forecast kept improving, and the weather turned out fantastic.
@JB @GolferGal @EdelBlake Mike Pai and Edel – thank you for this honor and privilege! Some things are “chicken soup for the soul” … well, this was perfect seared tuna, awesome steak, tasty salads and sides, fantastic breakfasts, excellent desserts, and top notch golf equipment for the soul! ? I will always remember this experience and will be grateful for the opportunity. I can’t wait to play and review the equipment and show it off to my playing partners every chance I get.
@JB – the conversation was so fun. It was cool to learn about your history with tennis and always great to hear your stories and perspectives on the industry and equipment.
@EdelBlake and Mike Pai – thank you for all the equipment and swag!! I’m so glad we could “shock the world” and win as the underdogs! ? Have an awesome time in Hawaii, Blake! ????
@mson – bummed we didn’t get to tee it up together, but I hope we get the chance to in another experience! I wish I had your swing, man. Seriously. Once those Edel SMS wedges and Array putter help you tighten up the short game, you will be single digit for sure. It was a treat getting to know you a bit. Cool and kind people like you are my jam.
@JonD – even though I’m pretty damn competitive, I still wish our singles match would have been closer and lasted a bit longer. You’re really easy to root for, my man! They say you win or you learn … well, I was fortunate to win and learn a bit about grace in defeat. You have my respect and gratitude. Let’s have another match soon!
@Wildcat – glad we got to squeeze in the pre-experience round at Blue Hills! It was fun watching you scramble so well after a not-so-great start. I have no doubt we will be teeing it up again together, either in AZ or in Kentucky, and I’m looking forward to it. @Nessinator is pretty lucky to have you, but we all know you’re way luckier to have her. ?
@JohnSinVA – dude! I still can’t believe you went so far down into that ravine to look for your ball, and I still feel huge relief that you made it back to us without injury. hahaha. It was very kind of you to offer to trade me driver covers and F-3 heads. And thanks again for giving us a ride to our hotels! You’re a good egg for sure!
I hope I get to tee it up again with all of you in the future!!! If it happens next week, it won’t be soon enough. You all have my gratitude, respect and friendship.
Thank you again to all the THPers who followed along or caught up later or are still catching up (this includes me … like 80 pages still … hahaha)!! I appreciate your interaction and support. And an extra big thanks for the Team Blake supporters!
Ballyhack was so amazing. I am a lucky man.
