In a move that should please a vocal segment of its fanbase, Vokey WedgeWorks is announcing the re-release of an old underground favorite, the V grind. Available in both 58.10 and 60.10 options, the V grind was inspired by a collaboration between Bob Vokey, Tour Rep Aaron Dill, and Vokey’s tour staff. It was last released during the SM6 run in 2016 and gained a faithful following of consumers that have been hoping for it to reappear.

Who is the V Grind Designed For?
According to Vokey, “The V Grind is designed for players seeking a wedge that provides increased bounce on square face shots and enhanced relief on open faced shots. On full shots, the V Grind features high measured bounce forward on the sole. Yet when the face of the V Grind is opened, the wedge produces increased versatility through heel, toe, and trailing edge sole relief, allowing the leading edge to stay closer to the ground.”

To put that into the simplest terms, the V grind will benefit players with a neutral-to-steep full swing that play in standard to soft conditions. The added bounce at the leading edge should lessen digging and offer some forgiveness on slightly heavy impact. However, the downside of a high bounce wedge, especially in higher lofts like the 58 and 60 degree options Vokey is offering here, is that it can make open-faced shots more challenging. Nothing is quite as worrisome as setting up to a shot from a tightly mown area, opening the face of a wedge, and seeing the leading edge sitting directly against the center of the ball. The V grind mitigates that problem by removing material in spots that makes opening the face easier.

Many players should already be familiar with the benefits of a grind like the V, as it’s been featured in many other wedges and irons, but its absence from the Vokey has been noticed. While the T Grind has been offered as an alternative, its designed more for shallow deliveries due in part to its lower effective bounce.

Pretty cool, but a little too scary for me – the part about opening the face on a tight lie and seeing the leading edge of the club at the equator of the ball.
Very scary! ?
Should have the V Grind in hand later today or tomorrow. I’m excited to give it a run. This a grind that is right up my alley.

This one should help with that. The relief on the trailing edge will get that leading edge a little lower.
Oh, I like the sound of this one!
Love me some bounce but a grind that lets me get creative when I’m forced to.
Koepkas 60 is a V grind I believe. I wish they offered this regularly instead of the M grind
Sounds like a great grind. Would be nice for a full release.

At the Masters, Koepka had a Cleveland RTX 6 in 60° in his bag
Isn’t this the Edison concept basically?

I’m sure he’d tell you no, but the general idea of different bounce profiles front/back is definitely the common theme. There are and have been others too.
They should make this a standard offering.
If I was in the market for new wedges, I would definitely give this a look. The lies can get tight here in Florida and this would be a great option.

Good call. I remember he had the SM4 or an older model for a pretty long time. I can’t think of any other pros I’ve seen with a V grind but I’m sure they are out there.
So many guys on tour seems to be playing the T grind these days.
This sounds very appealing. If only I didn’t buy the full face Jaws 60* earlier in the year. I need to try one of these as it sounds like it will help me even more than the C grind.
Sounds like a good option for tight lies and some versatility with other lies
This sounds like a great bounce. I have not tried it but the low bounce K still is the one that intrigues be the most. This would be second most as it seems to be right in line with what I like. Thanks
Showed up while I was out playing golf today. Looks very nice in hand.

What lie is tighter than a Softy mat? I’m sure somebody will think of something, but I think it’s about as tight as it gets. Anyway, a few open face shots off that came off really nice. Clean contact. Can tell there was tons of spin.
I hit up a short game practice area for a couple hours and spent a bunch of time with the the 60.10 V Grind. Hit it from just about every possible lie and from greenside to around 70 yards (that’s the max length of this short game area).
This is a great little wedge that I could see working for all kinds of people. I don’t think the grind is so specialized or niche that it will fit just a small group. Nice middle-ground bounce profile with a square face that keeps it from sticking in the ground. Was very easy to open, even on greenside fringe. That’s not really a shot I hit very much on course, but it was fun to open it halfway and get 30 foot chips to stop pretty much right after they landed. Feel is great. Feels pretty head-heavy and solid.
About the only place I struggled was the bunker, but it wasn’t really a fair situation. I’m not sure what kind of sand was in the this thing, but it was more like a sandbox than a bunker. Just beyond fluffy. I didn’t leave a ball in the bunker out of the 15 I hit, but I just didn’t feel like I had much control. I’ll get it in some real bunkers today at my course.

I play a 56m, but I like to tinker.
Absolutely useless for me.
Good for somebody, I’m sure, but horrific for me.
I do like the new T-Grind and the return of the 58-04, however.
I did some wedge testing today for Cleveland stuff I’m working on and did take some swings with this wedge. If I’m being honest, I expected a teeny more spin from the additional loft of the 60.10 compared to the 58 shown below. Still, really, really good performance here.

Here’s some data from a wedge session on the MLM2PRO today. Used the marked Chrome Soft X balls. These are averages of 4-6 shots, the occasional outlier removed. These are, I guess, half swings with 50.11 (CBX Zipcore), 54.10 (RTX 6 TR), 58.10 (RTX 6 TR). I know this the RTX 6 thread, but will post CBX numbers as well.
These swings reflect my 70, 60, and 50 yard shots, in order from high to low. Just including carry numbers. Unfortunately, I’m not a perfect machine, so you’ll see a little overlap. My takeaway from this is that I’m producing some incredible spin numbers here, especially with the RTX6. This is a new and improved wedge swingI’m working on with my instructor. Quite consistent, relatively speaking. Cannot wait to take it to the course.
