The KING TEC hybrid was one of the most underappreciated hybrids released by any golf company regardless of the name in recent memory. To a person, the feedback was and remains filled with superlatives from golfers of varying skill levels. The looks, the feel, the power, and the playability were all there.
So, when I found out that 2023 would be the year Cobra is going to unveil a new version alongside a multitude of other KING lineup releases there was absolutely no doubt in my mind a closer dive into what was coming would be needed.
2023 Cobra KING TEC Hybrids
This year Cobra Golf has cemented that the KING line of clubs is going to be one of the deepest and most all encompassing in golf. The decision to once again keep a hybrid under that umbrella with the plethora of iron sets and utilities is an exciting one for me because, although they offer a very advanced hybrid option in the new AEROJET lineup as well, the KING TEC Hybrid is another monster altogether.
Cobra is pulling no punches here, just as with the first version of the KING TEC, this is a super-premium golf club aimed at working with the player’s style offerings in the rest of the KING options. The company considers this a hybrid for golfers from 0 to 15 handicap, and if you are going to cover that size of the spectrum, you had better bring your A-game because the variance in skill within that window is massive.
Thus, the goal for the new KING TEC Hybrids is to be powerful from the tee and at distance while remaining capable of versatility through different lies. If it is anything like its predecessor, this isn’t necessarily the hybrid you will look to as an iron replacement, but rather a compliment when it comes to gapping. The shaping has been massaged this go-round with a shorter heel-to-toe, less onset, a more rounded toe/crown, and blending of curves to make for a very square look at setup. Definitely a departure from last time which sat open to most golfers.
The big story here is in technology. Starting with a 4-gram carbon fiber crown which let more weight be put low and back, it also helped with the implementation of the Adjustable Weight System which uses three sole ports alongside two 12g as well as a 2g weight. Combined with the +/- 1.5 degrees of MyFly adapter adjustability the KING TEC Hybrid is touting a whole lot of fire power for fine tuning to make sure it dials into the gap and needs of the individual.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Cobra without the next evolution of their PWRSHELL with H.O.T. Face Technology (highly optimized topography) being blended with a new ST-118 face material. Not only does all of this combine for a powerful face design with a bigger “sweet zone” and easier launch, but the varied topography behind the face has been tuned to increase spin and ball speed retention while maximizing the carry potential and ability to hit shots into greens. In essence, where the first Tec was an absolute bomber, Cobra has worked to turn the new KING TEC Hybrids into bombers with purpose.
The KING TECH Hybrids will be available in 2H (17.0 RH), 3H (19.0 RH/LH), 4H (21.0 RH/LH), and 5H (24.0 RH/LH) paired with Mitsubishi MMT 70 or 80 shafts and Lamkin Crossline grips. All LH options will be custom order only and not in stores.
The Details
Pricing for the 2023 Cobra KING TEC Hybrids will be $299, and they will come to retail on 2/3/23. Cobra Golf is adamant that the implementation of tech like their H.O.T. Face into a hybrid is something that will make the KING TEC Hybrids stand out above the rest, but of course, only time will tell.

I wonder if the folks who are scared of the hybrid lefts will be put off at all with the more squared set-up compared to the last generation. Plenty of adjustability to take care of that to be sure, but will be interested to see how it’s perceived.
This line is easily the best hybrid I’ve hit and I’ve been a hybrid players for a long time.
Pretty sweet.
I absolutely LOVED hope open/fadey the previous gen was, so the squaring it up a little more aspect has me curious. That said, the amount of weight that can be shifted really will let a neutral head be adjusted a lot both ways.
I will try both. Two outstanding choices.
@Jman great write up.
Cobra is killing it.
Cobra: "Look at these updated King TEC hybrids!"
Roadrunner: "TAKE MY MONEY!!!"
Dang these have me a bit excited. That shape is just gorgeous, and the look of the crown is really nice. The adjustability between the adjustable weight system and MyFly Adapter seem like it would really help you dial in the club. Super high on my want to try list now. I’m just a little disappointed LH is custom order only.
Oh how I loved that WAY open face.
I have not been able to snap hook mine. It remains the safest club in my bag.
As always, @Jman, fantastic job!
I know you asked about this in the old thread but I couldn’t say much. It’s well documented how much I love the 2h and hit it great but Yags was telling me that this will be bigger off the tee. I’m sold!
Would be pretty intriguing if the 2h is farther off the tee. I really wanted to be 2h buds with you but couldn’t get the 2h out quite far enough to be a 3W replacement
The best club I’ve had in that 15 degree range was a 2H lofted down. I’m ready to pre-order this one as it stands. There is a UW that could be had easily now.
I just knew that you would be in here like a shot! These will be bought unseen, I absolutely love the original and whilst I think I prefer the two tone look as @willplaysgolf mentioned, these just look mean. I may leave the 5h as the original version, but I have absolutely no doubt that there will be a couple more in the bag.
Great write up as ever @Jman , I can’t wait to give these a bomb with purpose!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!!
I loved it, my credit card statement…not so much
It gives me so much confidence on the tee as that’s where my hybrid hook would show up.
Need to see how far my 6i goes in the AJ or FT and see where the 4h at 22 fits in there
So no 3w?
Argument in favor of your idea would be that 2h hybrid would be kind of an "LS tee bomber" that’s maybe a little more user friendly than a 3W, where the 5W would give you some launch and spin for going into greens…. But I don’t know that I could get used to going hybrid-FW-hybrid in my bag, would just feel wrong haha
It’s only wrong if it doesn’t work.
Current set up is Driver 5w 4h so my thinking with the 2h is another tee option vs the 5w. Idk. Maybe I’ll just stick with what got me here
Whatever works for you!! No judgement zone– Throw a MB in there for fun!! ?
I’m in total agreement, H-F-H would just sit funny with me Whilst I love the high launch of the 5w, I am seriously considering sacrificing that for the greater control of the hybrid. In any case, I don’t have the game to be even considering holding greens with a 5w, I’m lucky to hit a 20 yard circle
Yeah, I was wondering that too but in all honesty, I’m not a fan of the looks of Aerojet. I prefer LTDx (which I have in driver and 3 wood). I’m now looking for a 3 and 4 hybrid to replace my Ping G410s. The biggest and perhaps most obvious difference is that the King Tec has a lot of adjustability that the Aerojet does not have.
For me, I’m looking REALLY hard at the King Tec as my next set of hybrids. I’m also considering the new Ping G430s but I’m really digging Cobra lately and I love the adjustability.
Not @Jman but saw your post in the MC thread. King Tec gives you adjustability to dial in your flight and I think slightly lower launch and spin than the Aerojet.
I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on a set of King Tec hybrids but lower launch may not suit me, if that’s really the case. What I need most from my hybrids is controlled accuracy and being able to softly hit greens. On my course, the greens are so fast so holding greens on shots 180-190 out can be challenging.
Last week, I hit a few balls with a Cleveland Launcher XL 3 hybrid. I had pretty good accuracy with it but oddly enough, it came into the green noticeably lower than my current Ping G410 3 hybrid. That said, the Cleveland is an 18* and my Ping a 19*, but still – was too low and didn’t hold many of my shots that landed on the green 180 out. I guess the advantage of the King Tec (and other adjustable hybrids) is that I could always increase loft if need be.
I wasn’t saying they are low launch, I was saying they might be slightly lower launch and spin than the Aerojet. They do offer adjustability but if you need more launch and spin maybe Aerojet is the ticket.
I’ve only hit the g425 hybrid but with similar lofts and shafts I’d expect the Tec to launch lower than the g410
