Could the Bag Boy Revolver XP be the best cart bag on the market?
Recently we sent out the Bag Boy Revolver XP golf bag for review to multiple forum members and their early thoughts and pictures are starting to come in. Each week new reviews are posted as testers get a chance to try out the new Revolver and put it to the test.
Their goals are simple, put this cart bag through its paces and see how it fares. Covering the gamut from ease of use to durability and everything in between. Regular golfers, trying out the products you have questions on and doing so for long periods of time.
Click here to see their reviews so far and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask. Plus, follow along in the thread for updates as they continue to come week after week.

Got paired up with a local, and a gentleman from Nashville so I got to show the bag off a bit. Not much more to report for today, other than I really do like the configuration I have settled on. Everything is easily accessible.

Alright, next pocket up for review is the outside pocket on the umbrella side of the bag. While it appears to be the same size as the first pocket I reviewed, the umbrella really takes a lot of the depth out of the pocket. You’re looking at something thin to go in here – think yardage guides, your backup towel (pictured), or the embarrassing photos of your opponent that you’ll need to break out at just the right time.

You may recall that my daughter was able to fit 20+ members of the Paw Patrol in a pocket in an earlier review. Well, those of you with kids won’t be surprised that she found some more! In this pocket, we were able to fit a decent-sized Skye, 8 Paw Patrol pups, and another dog that is definitely not Paw Patrol but has apparently been adopted into the group. I’ll note that the umbrella was NOT in it’s pocket, so it gives you an idea of the added capacity if you decide to leave the umbrella at home. This pup might not be flying, but at least she’ll be able to play a quick 18!

Very cool!
I’m a creature of habit so I always have to have my clubs in a certain order. I’ve found that I can literally have them in any order with this spinning top. It’s liberating ?
Wondering if anything in your bag will survive if you forget to strap in the bag and it falls off into a lake? Well, I can’t guarantee anything, but the first place I’d look is the pocket labelled "WATERPROOF". Unlike the other pockets, this has a nice fleece lining that shouldn’t scratch up a phone, ring, or mirror (no judgement – always gotta look good on the course). It’s also just the right size to fit a wallet, keys, and a measuring tape so can add up your "feet of putts" just like the pros do. We’ll have more to come with this pocket later in the series where we try to answer the question – just how waterproof is this pocket???

Oh oh, how many open juice boxes without it leaking OUT? ???
I have a follow on question regarding the grip lock feature. Has anyone tried this bag with the Arrcos grip sensors installed? Do the sensors interfere with the grip lock feature? Does the grip lock damage (or long term damage) the sensors?
TIA
I have tried it with Shot Scope sensors and have not had any issues.
I used mine when I had a sensor system (forgot it haha. The redtags) and a set with arccos sensors (screw in and grip). They would get scuffed up slightly but never noticed an actual performance issue in reading/sensing shots or gps location.
I have the Arccos sensors in the grips and haven’t noticed any issues yet – will keep you updated!
Alright, for those of you who relate more to the 5-year-old edition than the actual reviews, you’ve clearly noticed that one pup has been missing from all the Paw Patrol pictures. Why is that? Because Rocky’s afraid of water! So today is Rocky’s day to shine. He’s super happy to be hanging out in the waterproof pocket and will ensure those empty beer cans end up in the recycling bin.View attachment 8998001

Just over halfway through the 60-day test period, and it’s time to run a little contest to keep our loyal followers engaged (and maybe bring some new eyes on the thread!). But first, let’s check out the 7th pocket on the Bag Boy Revolver XP Cart Bag – the ball pocket. Every golf bag has one and this is in the classic spot. Could you put 5,000 tees in here and instead put the balls in the tee pocket? Sure it’s a bold move that exudes confidence, but I’m not lending you a ball when you duck hook three straight into the junk…
This was the max number of golf balls I could fit in the pocket and still close it.
View attachment 8998203
Also, an underrated feature (that I don’t have a picture of yet) are the drainage holes at the bottom of the pocket. Collect water balls at will – they’re not going to mold up the bag!
View attachment 8998204
Now it’s time for a little contest. In order to not mess up this thread, here’s what you’ve got to do. Take a look at the pictures above and answer the two questions in the linked contest thread. All the rules are over there. I’m lucky enough to be playing a private Top 25 course next month and the winner will get a souvenir from there. Good luck!
Minor annoyance, but didn’t plan on having to swap everything out for a different bag.
What’s a 5-year-old going to use a cooler for? I would’ve proposed a juice box, an apple, and a boo-boo bunny. But nope – this 5-year-old is taking the Bag Boy Revolver XP Cart Bag grocery shopping! Cans, cans, and more cans fit in this thing – 12 in total – in case you ever need to keep your canned peas & carrots cold. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that none of these things required refrigeration!

One of my biggest concerns with this bag going into this, was possible wear on the grips from the grip-lok system.
I have been testing this bag for a little over a month now, and have made it a point to lock the grips innto the base every single time I put a club into the bag.
I’m very pleased with the results. After a month plus of use, the grip caps are not showing any abnormal wear whatsoever.
A couple of quick pics

A little dirty, but that’s my fault.
One other question we had was about the system it uses to lock the grips in. I snapped a pic down one of the dividers and if you zoom in, you can see the channel that holds the grips.

Hope that helps.
Yeah that was me with the concerns about my Shot Scope tags, thanks for taking the time for the pictures!
For sure man. Sorry it took so long!
Day 35 was a sad one for this Boilermaker, so the last pocket of the bag might not get the kind of excitement that it should. Still, this is the most accessible pocket on the bag, so it’s a great place to store things if you need them quick. Rangefinders, masks, and flasks – perfect!

Even a 5-year-old can get sick of Paw Patrol from time to time, so mine decided to look around the basement for something that would fit perfectly. Is that really Gene Keady and Tim Couch??? Yes it is! She has good taste…

Finally made it out to the course for my first round with the Revolver XP!
A couple things I really liked:
– That top pocket in the front is amazingly accessible. Put anything smaller that you’ll need during the round in there and the only time you’ll bend down all round is to tee up and pick your ball out of the cup.
– Individual slots made it really easy to make sure I didn’t forget a club!
– I was a little skeptical about the putter well, but it might be my favorite feature on the bag! In and out, no problem. Was never concerned about it moving around.
– The rotating top was definitely used and enjoyed several times
A couple things I didn’t like as much as I expected:
– While the rotating top was cool and useful, the clubs kept getting caught on the umbrella. I think the answer is to either not bring an umbrella, or clip the irons in so they don’t stick out, but it definitely wasn’t something I had thought about previously.
– We had a quick round going with no waiting, but it was cart path only on an unfamiliar course. So I was constantly taking 3-4 clubs with me. By the time I got back to the bag, I didn’t have the patience needed with the Clip-Lok. I really don’t like making my player partner wait, so I tended to toss my clubs in the bag and hop in the cart as quick as possible. With my clips still pretty tight, I feel like adding 10 seconds every time I went to grab/put back clubs would have added 5-10 minutes to the round. I’d imagine it’ll be a lot more useful on a day where I’m either waiting, or can drive right up to my ball and only pull one club.
Overall, super excited to finally play – can’t wait to get out there again!

– Travel Bag Fit
– Towel clip holder
– Glove holder
– Tee holder
– Waterproof-ness
– More on course testing
If there’s anything else you’d like to see a thorough review of, just let me know!
I’m back from vacation (and a couple 7 am – midnight work-sessions), so get ready for the home stretch as we count down to day 60! Keeping up with the vacation theme, today we’ll talk about travel bags. An earlier post mentioned they had trouble fitting it into a standard travel bag, and I’m not surprised. The bag has some size, so a standard hard-shell bag is unlikely to fit. However, I’ve got a turtle bag (hard shell top, soft bottom), and with the right adjustments, the bag will JUST fit for your trip to Punta Cana.
View attachment 9000660
I was only able to fit it in at one specific angle, and definitely needed to take the putter out of the putter well. If it’s still not fitting, remember that the putter well is removable, which might give you a little extra room.
View attachment 9000661
Luckily, the bag does have 14 slots in the top so the putter can still come along for the ride.
View attachment 9000662
I can’t guarantee this will work with all travel bags, but it’s good to know that with the right angle and the right travel bag, you’ll be all set for your next big trip!
One of the smallest, but most visible features on the bag is the tee holder. You can hold 4 pristine tees of different shapes and sizes, all without having to dig through your bag when you snap your tee on every hole at the local unwatered muni in mid-August. As a former carry bag guy, I spent some time thinking about when I would actually use this – doesn’t everyone just throw a bunch of tees in their pocket at the beginning of the round? However, there are a couple of times where I’d find this real useful:
– One less thing to worry about grabbing when running to the first tee when you’re late for your tee time
– The aforementioned "concrete" round
– Rainy rounds (don’t want to dig through pockets, ESPECIALLY with rain gloves on, and especially when using a pull cart)
It’s also a pretty cool way to show off tees from cool golf courses that don’t clank around like bag tags! Ultimately, it’s a neat little feature that might result in me no longer having 47 tees in my pocket at all times (hey, don’t judge…I have to reload a lot!).

I did want to give an update on the clip lok feature.
I was worried that these things would break down, because they are made of some sort of foam material. The clip for my lob wedge was one I was really worried about, because it has to clip in on the widest part of the ferrule- nearly at the hosel.
View attachment 9000947
As you can see, it is holding up well. It can still be a little tricky, but my method has been to lock the grip into the base, lean the wedge into the clip and twist. Works like a champ. I’ve said before that this bag would be awesome for one length sets, and this is the main reason why.
Also another update on the grip wear.
None. ZERO.
They must have fixed whatever the issue was with previous versions of this bag because my grips are holding up perfectly.
Are you focused more on the "social" side of golf? Well, you may not be as excited about having a couple tees on the outside of your bag. Instead, you’ll want to have immediate access to the important things…bottle openers, wine stoppers, and drink umbrellas! Lucky for you, the tee-holder works PERFECTLY for this. Stick a small bottle of wine, a couple beers, and some margaritas in the cooler and you’re all set!

Love myself a good Mai Tai! ?
I’ll be honest… I’m not sure this is an actual feature or not. But there is a little strip of velcro on the bag above the towel holder and it’s the only place I can think of to put your golf glove. I’m not saying I need a little picture of a glove on the bag to make it 100% clear, but I’m also not saying it wouldn’t have cleared up some anxiety for putting my glove there when it was actually designed for…um… bowling shoes or something.
Anyway, love being able to air out my glove!

View attachment 9001179
Agreed. He’s good
Holy crapcrackers! I never noticed that on my Datrek! I just velcro my glove around the d-ring and didn’t realize that was Velcro!
I took the bag out for another round and really enjoyed it! Used the rotation periodically, sits well on a cart, and the ease of access to the cooler and ball pocket were very appreciated (and used more than I’d like to admit!). However, I have an embarrassing admission…
I’ve been reviewing this bag for 52 days, and have literally flipped the bag upside down to provide insight into every single feature I could possibly find. One thing I was a bit confused about though was @Davidhibler ‘s numerous mentions of Grip-Lok. Sure, the original video mentions it, the tag mentions it, and it’s mentioned all over the website. But I just thought that the base somehow gripped the clubs a little stronger when you rotated it and that it was a play off the cool Clip-Lok at the top of the bag. Not worth a separate review.
So, fast forward to Monday’s round, and I’m trying to put my wedge back in the bag. It’s a little crowded since I brought an extra driver to try out, so it got caught a little on another club. I jammed it down a little bit and all the sudden "CLICK!" Wait, what was that? Oh my gosh, you can push the clubs into the bottom and lock it in, even without using the Clip-Lok!?!?!?! Wow…so now the questions about whether it messes with the grips make total sense.
I feel like an idiot for even admitting that I didn’t know about one of the biggest features of this bag, but if it can happen to me, perhaps someone else out there is just like me and this will be their AHA! moment too! Now that I know about it and have experienced it, the Grip-Lok is so cool and is a fantastic solution if you don’t feel like clipping the clubs into the Clip-Lok every time.
Pictured below is from one of the last moments of my life B.G. (Before Grip-Lok)
View attachment 9001780
Alright, back to the reviews you all know and love! We’re down to the last few features of this bag, but one thing we haven’t touched on is the towel clip holder. It’s very difficult to review a towel clip holder, as I don’t think I’ve ever thought about its utility for more than about 2 seconds. However, after straining to think about it, there are really 3 things I ask for.
– Does it exist? Check
– Is it high enough on the bag that the towel doesn’t drag on the ground? Check
– Is it thin enough that the clip isn’t too difficult to snap on and off? Check
And there you have it! Fully functional, room enough for several bag tags, and open enough to accommodate the velcro glove holder just above it.

I wanted to check out the waterproof claims of the one pocket of this bag (plus see how the rest of the bag fared), so I left it out in the rain for a while. But the combination of a lack of meaningful precipitation and a lack of patience meant it was time to bring out my 5 year old and a hose. Video coming on day 56!
The bag was nearly bone dry after 30 minutes in a light mist, so I had to take things into my own hands…
View attachment 9002235
Hey!! Look at that!!???View attachment 9002260
This bag has several unique features that you don’t see on a lot of bags these days.
The main attraction seems to be the revolving top. I was skeptical about this because I saw it as sort of a gimmick at first, but it quickly became my favorite feature of the bag. It really is useful on the course.
The feature I was most excited about going into this was the clip lok in tandem with the grip lok base. These features can be frustrating when the bag is brand new, because the clip lok has to break in and loosen up, but once they wear in, it works fine. Because these 2 features hold your clubs so securely, the XP makes for a great bag if you are traveling, or if you have a one length set.
I get that the bag may not be for everyone, but it is a decent value for what you get – and pretty damn solid. If you are a cart rider, definitely worth a look.
If anyone has any questions, just let me know.
What you’ve all been waiting for…
Results tomorrow!
First, check out the prior post for the video of how we tested out the bag in the "rain" and thanks to my handy sidekick who somehow really seemed to enjoy using a hose in rainy, 50 degree weather. So how did the bag do in the "rain"? Today, we’ll look at the waterproof pocket. I decided to put a scorecard and a paper receipt in there so that even the tiniest amount of water would be detected. The pictures give us our answer…
View attachment 9002734
View attachment 9002736
No moisture at all! The inside of the pocket was completely dry and no signs of distress on either pieces of paper. That’s great news and you can feel confident about keeping your wallet in there and handing out dry tips to everyone helping you out during a rainstorm. Just make sure the zipper is closed! If it’s not zipped, it doesn’t say "Waterproof", which was a genius subtle addition by Bag Boy.
How did the rest of the bag do? Stay tuned tomorrow to find out…
First off, if you haven’t seen the video, check it out a few posts back. So, how did the rest of the bag do in the rain? Not too bad. I definitely want to point out that the bag is not advertised as waterproof (only the one pocket is), so this is more of a a fun test to see what happens. We drenched the main, accessible pocket up front, and while there was moisture inside, it’s going to take a lot of rain to soak things in there. Check out the straw paper I pulled out of there – not soaked, but half of it is waterlogged…
View attachment 9002836
Other pockets were similarly wet. I then took off the cover to see how that held up. Interestingly, there was a small amount of moisture on the top of the rotation piece of the bag. I’m not sure how that got there, but it may have something to do with the angle of spray from the hose…rain typically doesn’t fly upwards, so as long as you don’t drive through huge puddles, you should be fine there.
View attachment 9002837
The strange place I found a little water was on the top of my headcover. It wasn’t much, but I can’t figure that one out. My guess is that it was touching the outside cover and maybe a little bit soaked through. It’s something I’ll keep an eye on if I end up playing with it in the rain.
View attachment 9002838
I can confirm that grips were dry though, so you should still be good to play! Not that dry grips is a requirement (if you’ve ever played in the rain with a regular glove, buy some rain gloves…they’re life changing!).
So, at the end of the day, the waterproof claims of the pocket hold up, and the rest of the bag performs solidly in the rain as well. Thanks for following along in the waterproofing series! We’re in the home-stretch – 2 more days to go!

Thanks for your time.
I have not found this to be the case on mine. The slots in the middle without the clip-lok do allow the clubs to wobble a bit, but nothing like you are experiencing. The grip-lok holds strong in every slot.
Thanks for the response. I had a feeling. That sucks. ..for me.
Of course!
If you really believe there is an issue with your bag, I’d reach out via their website or social. Bag Boy has wonderful customer service and they stand by their product.
Ya, the thing is I bought it from another site; and most places including Bagboy are out of them.
She was also testing it with a bag she had in front of her when she called back. She found that the four slots in the center of the bag did hold the grip with less resistance than the outer ring. The clubs in the outer ring held very firm from spinning. The clubs in the center were held down, but the club heads could spin when applying less much less pressure in comparison. She thought it shouldn’t be that way at least when the bag was new.
