It has been a bit since the last iteration of the Callaway X Forged irons. Today, multiple sets are coming out in the form of a player’s cavity and muscle back, but we are focusing on the Callaway X Forged CB.
Today they are announcing the latest version, the X Forged CB and MB and this post we are talking all things CB. In the video below, we explain the tech, take some swings and breakdown all of the data to give you a full understanding of look, feel sound and performance from the THP Tech Studio.
After watching that, what are your thoughts on the Callaway X Forged CB?
hahaa it does sound like a lot of fun.
Let us know how your inaugural round goes, excited for you….always so much fun getting new irons.
Pre release stuff. Coming soon though
I had the same feeling when I did a 6iron vs my existing 7i T200 comparison ( closest loft matching I could get ). Denser on impact, a really solid thump. Maybe it was my imagination, but I swear I could feel the weight farther down the face then my T200. Not sure how else to describe it. But for a smaller head, still really easy to hit. The sound/feel combo is very addicting.
It definitely is. I get to test a lot, but always seem to come back to these for some fun. Something about the feel is wildly addicting.
Had a bunch of great shots with them today, highlighted by sticking a 5i from 208 to 1′ for eagle. They’re pretty sweet on the hands and ears when hit pure outdoors. IO 6.5 was great as always for me, and the combo transition to the Apex MB’s was pretty flawless.
Long story short, they did exactly what they’re supposed to, and I played pretty great with them.
When you have kick-ins for eagle you’ve got to keep them in the bag right!
Is it that simple?! ‘Cause that would help. I might have to try this methodology.
#gospelaccordingto @93civiccpe
In my defense I’ve yet to have a 1 foot putt for eagle. When I do those will stay in the bag a long time!!
Do not fear the offset!
Duuuuuuuude! Sounds like a helluva shot! Too bad that offset is so gross.
Haha I’ll get used to them if need be. I’ve played ones with more and done fine. I think I’ve just turned into a picky b*tch.
IO big boy version!
This with a 6i, cap?
7 iron.
Great numbers. Seems similar experiences had by a few different people. Going to be some hard choices coming up.
Definitely in the mix. I would like to try them with the Tour Issue x100.
I was able to try out the 6i thing in the same shaft I use and had great results. Similar to yours.
Hard to say why a release that had so much chatter because of the look pre-release has had comparitively minor coverage after for how good they are.
My favorite monitor pairing!! These two together is seriously the only reason I bought either one. Did you like the lighter weight?
I am not great at feeling different weights. I just looked them up and my current shafts at the CTaper lites are the same weight.
I am waiting to see how the Apex line turns out. There is a greater than 80% chance I end up buying the CBs or one of the Apex like me for next season.
Interested to see how @Muchmore18 will in a few weeks as well. ?
Oh, okay. I didn’t have signatures on and since you mentioned X100’s I thought you might have been playing something heavier. So now I’m curious how you found the launch and kick compared to the CTaper Lites! It’s a pretty logical comparison with the same weights and stepless shafts, but I don’t have much time in on CTaper Lites.
and me. Don’t forget me.
Oh, and Dan hasn’t formally announced where he is taking his talents to. Might need to set up JimGrey and a tv crew for the announcement.
I could be sold on the validity of these beauties.
He will either
A) go with Xforged CB
Or
B) lose his mind
Does Voshall know that basically the day after he was on the podcast you started mentality cheating on the 921’s??
I am liking them a lot. I was concerned about a significant loss of distance compared to my Apex Forged but I am very happy with only few yards shorter.
I absolutely love the look of these and have been keeping a close eye on this thread from the back of the room though. Unfortunately the three places I’ve been that have Callaway clubs, don’t have any of these to mess with in LH. I watched someone hit them though and the launch window, spin and the sound were just fantastic. That’s what I get for standing on the opposite side of the ball though.
He hit the stock setup so well in the tech studio.
I’m starting to think he hasn’t actually watched the video….haha
I am still trying to convince my wife to switch to right handed.
Easier to justify new purchases for yourself right? She can have your previous awesomeness
No she would probably get the Big Bertha irons. My sister in law has them and loves them.
I’d be willing to tell him hahaha – such is the life of a golfer.
Well yeah, I’m comfortable with all of this hahaha
What does it mean when you get within 1 of your very hard to even flirt with PB your second time out with a set? Sell them?
I believe you are experiencing the former.
Yes, it’s quite obvious what you should do… sel… ah hell, I can’t in good conscience finish that thought! ? Pretty awesome that they are working so well for you after you committed to giving them a real chance. I can’t even imagine what your PB is. Must be low 60s, ya?
They’re good feeling clubs. Really gentle on cold day too. I caught one a little low, and while I suffered a tad for it in result (not much though), the feel wasn’t bad at all. Really surprising they’re not more jarring down there. Less solid than expected for the style.
Spin window is definitely right where I like it for my swing. Every result into the green right where it should be for stop/roll/rip. Easy to work with. Was able to hold a couple tough spots today.
Forgiveness towards the toe on one again impressed me. I really do feel like they’re more forgiving than people think that are/will be. Wasn’t severe, but I feel like there are clubs I have that would have turned more on that shot. Something about the position of that weight at the back maybe? Not sure. Heads feel really stable though. Heavy/extra tungsten in the toe and I don’t always get along on some. Not always a fan of the effect on off center strikes. Haven’t noticed that in extensive testing or on course with these yet. Balance seems a tad different. Closer to MB there than certain CB’s. :confused2: Could be wrong.
Anyway, they’re downright plushy out there when you hit them well, and it seems easier to do than it should be for this type of iron.
They’re okay in my book, even with the offset.
Ya. I might need to make a thread for some feedback on posting this one. Only got through 16 before sunset, and as a plus filling in the rest is a little weird.
It’s definitely making me re-think the combo point with the MB’s a little bit. Or at least opening myself up to thinking about it. I was too tired and nauseous to want to worry about trying hard to control the scoring clubs, and letting them be worked just fine. It’s not a very launchy combo with the IO 6.5. Might need to work out a couple exact distances on a warmer day though. I’ll definitely stick with them for a bit and see how much they continue to impress. I really have loved the numbers since session #1.
And then I can sell them to you when the new Apex come out..
It would have been hard for me to not finish in the dark if I was gonna beat my PB.
It will make my life easier if the new Apex are unappealing…which is highly unlikely!
Wasn’t an option. I would have, even though I can’t see for crap in low light.
They don’t look unappealing to me!! ?
