Fresh off another win, Bryson DeChambeau might just be considered the hottest golfer in the world. To celebrate that big victory, we are giving away SIX DOZEN limited edition BAD golf balls to the lucky winner.
Last week it was announced that Bridgestone Golf was bringing back their popular ball fitting platform and for the new campaign, it would be more extensive than ever. Obviously, DeChambeau went through a ball fitting of his own when choosing to play the Tour B X and it has served him well.
We got a chance to catch up with Adam Rehberg, Golf Ball Fitting Manager, while at the 2019 PGA Merchandise Show last week and discuss the new initiative. In this short video, Adam and Michael Vrska break down ball fitting, why it evolved and how much it can impact you.
Contest
We are giving away SIX DOZEN of these to the lucky winner and entering is super easy, just follow the 3 steps below.
1. Watch the short video above.
2. Post in the comments section below your thoughts on what Adam has to say about ball fitting.
3. Sit back and see if you win.
We will announce the winner later this week and you could be on your way to playing these BAD TOUR B X golf balls this coming season. For more information on the Bridgestone Golf Ball lineup, check out their website here. Good luck everybody.
I AGREE, I ONLY USE BRIDGESTONE GOLF BALLS!
Can you fit a ball that will float?
Asking for a friend…a very sheepish friend.
I agree that some balls will perform better for different people. But I don’t think any one ball will cover all aspects such as distsnce off the driver and control around the green. So a golfer needs to find the right ball that will do an adequate job for the two different demands.
I really like the trifecta for ball fitting by using 3 areas for fitting. Since many of us amateurs tend to use those 3 clubs it will give the player a ton of information on how the ball will react in all aspects of their game. We get fitted for everything else I think a ball fitting is crucial, I also find it hard to find someone who will provide this instead of trying to do it ourselves buy buying sleeves and testing. I look forward to trying to find a Bridgestone fitting this year to see what my numbers are.
In general, optimizing the equipment you use, for your specific swing characteristics, is a good thing – and that includes ball-fitting.
Lots of golfers have no idea what ball works with their swing and speeds. All equipment should be fitted for optimum perfermance
As a 12 handicap I have always felt the ball did not matter that much until I can learn to control what it is doing. Matt made me rethink my “head in the sand” (pun intended) mindset.
Love my B300’s been one of my best equipment changes
Never been ball fit and know there is some importance. Seems straight forward on gauging the numbers similar to a club fitting. All makes sense, good luck everyone!
No longer can we ignore the technology and in some cases vast differences between various brands and models of balls. Many of us spend a lot of time, energy, and $$ on optimizing our clubs to fit what we want it only makes sense to do the same with our ball, especially since there are SO many options. Bridgestone seems to have figured this out and I am glad ball fitting is back, and that it includes more than just driver (and distance isn’t the only metric, i.e. w an 8 iron). Cheers
It’s a very interesting presentation right now I use a pro v and would like to try your product
I never really thought that someone could be fitted to golf balls, but it makes total sense now that I semi understand some of the aspects of this game. I thought since I sliced a shot I would need low spin, but never underanding why i needed spin around the green. Super informative and I think these balls would be great for many players!
As I found out last year, Ball choice makes a difference. I played a ball based on price and what it said on the box. Probably not the right choice- especially after switching to TP5 and/or Chrome Soft and gaining about 20 yards off the tee with little or no change in stopping power on the green.
Unlike Peter Kessler, I find ball fitting to be not only valid, but one of the most often missed opportunities for regular golfers to improve their performance. As always great content.
I read on Twitter that only good players need to be fit for a ball… ???
Sorry, I had to… Honestly though, I think that Bridgestone has this nailed. Balls are not a one size fits all market. I can play good with a consistent ball, but I can play great with the right ball. Now, if you are dropping $500 on a driver, but playing a ball that flies too high, or doesn’t spin around the green, that extra 10 yards you bought that driver for is useless. Like I said, seeing stuff like this published is a breath of fresh air. I think more people would benefit from a proper ball fitting than they do a new set of irons. Just my two cents though.
I think it’s interesting that they start with drver and not green to tee, but I’ll be looking for a local ball fitting
I like how Adam said 2 things: throw out all your preconceived notions about what you hit now and pay attention to the spin. Also instead of going for the ball that gets you 10 yards farther, go for the one that might get you 7 yards farther but gets you more greenside spin.
Been through 3 of the previous fittings they did in the past. All of them came back with same recommended ball on different days.
What really is important now is the shorter irons and getting a mix of data. Longest not always the best if greenside result is worse. Have seen this happen with a couple balls I’ve tried. This is the biggest change for me and looking forward to getting some fitting numbers this year when available!
After watching a video from Dean Snell I realized the importance of using better balls but I’ve never been fit for one before. This is interesting watching the video and this might be the next big step for us amateurs to improve. I am going to get a ball fitting this year.
great info on ball fitting
Boy, when he started with the driver, I thought he was going to stop there. Happy to hear Adam go further and mention the 8 iron, then the wedges around the green. The gradational core is intriguing. Amazing the amount of tech that goes into golf ball design. Also interesting that club design innovations are driving adjustments to the design of the golf balls and inversely. Hope to get in on one of these ball fittings. Great video!
I like how the technology not only wants to improve distance but also optimize spin on short shots
I was bored until he started testing about the gradaitional core can be manipulated which from what I already knew was not that easy to do for most others companies, that was pretty cool
It’s great to see Adam talk about the specifics of ball fitting the same way a good club fitter does when he goes through your. Optimizing the ball for your whole game and not just for the driver is exciting. All the same factors (launch, spin, descent…etc.) are being used which is much more comprehensive than the old way. Years and years worth of data would seem to have positioned Bridgestone to be the best at this now that they are back in the picture!!
I really like that they are looking more at other parts of the game than Driver. So much more important than hitting it far.
I
I would be interested in trying the Bridgestone brand,
Makes a LOT of sense. Amazing how in-depth its all become.
I only use Bridgestone golf balls…they are far superior to everything else
I did the old Bridgestone online ball fitting, and was borderline between the E6 and B330RX, and have been switching between the two ever since. Looking forward to taking advantage of the new system to see what is recommended now.
Thanks for the informative video, and the opportunity!
With the correct ball, seems like the average golfer can really utilize modern technology and equipment to take their game to the next level.
Ball fitting would be a great thing to do. Sometimes the ball you think is the best for you really might not be. Knowing what ball green to tee helps to eliminate one variable in ones game.
I’m not a very good player so I don’t know if ball fitting would benefit me. I am willing to find out though.
Very informative and would love to try this out sometime. I really enjoyed him talking and explaining that when you move and swing with the 8 iron its not entirely about finding the ball that goes that farthest but with the correct spin and decent angle. Good luck everyone!!
I used to think that it didn’t matter what ball a golfer used, and then the more I learned about the subject (including this video) it has become very apparent that not all balls are created equal for each swing. Really looking forward to trying to find one of these Bridgestone fitting events to see what ball suits my game the best.
I like how they look at it from different areas – irons, short game and driver
Where is the best place to go for a Ball Fitting? Is it something I can do online or do I need to go to a PGA Tour Superstore or a specially equipped pro shop? I currently play the Wilson Staff Duo Spin (32 compression).
Pretty cool they go driver, 8 iron, then around the greens on the ball fitting.
The ball is the only piece of equipment that is used for every single stroke during a round so using a ball that fits you is critical. Love that Bridgestone incorporated the approach shot and short game performance into their ball fitting.
I agree. Bridgestone has been the most consistent ball for my game up to this point
Love to here the process used to make the quality process plus the level of review tied to the fitting process
I like the idea although it may be hard for some of us to get to a fitting. I think allowing golfers to enter their own spin and launch numbers for driver and 8 iron, along with the other feel criteria, into their ball fitting software would be beneficial for those that can’t make it out to a fitting.
Glad to see fittings coming back. My game has changed over the years due to age and a rotatory cuff surgery. Not changing my equipment but knowing that I have the best ball for the way I hit the ball now could be key.
I like the concept of a ball fitting. Finding the best ball, for Driver AND 8 iron makes a lot of sense. I have a ball I LOVE from 7 iron down and HATE with my driver.
Interesting to be adding the 8 iron to the Driver for fitting.
Great video with Adam. Good to see them add the 8i to the fitting and giving people samples to test out the shortgame. Really glad that they’re back with the fittings.
A lot of common sense there but some good nuggets as well. I glazed over a bit when he was talking about materials but I’ve never had a ball fitting and I think I will. He’s especially right about having preconceived bias about what ball you should be playing. I know I’m guilty of this.
I’ve always tried to use the “same” ball for a round of golf… and recently tried a dozen Bridgestone and liked them more than the chrome soft I’d been playing. A few dozen “BAD” golf balls would be a real treat… and it would help me build my consistency.
I love that they are looking at all aspects of the fitting and at multiple clubs to find the right fit. I had never really thought about the changes in club technology affecting ball technology but it makes perfect sense when I stop and think about it.
It is nice to see in the video that they are expanding the fitting to include an iron like the 8 iron and not just driver and/or wedge. It makes alot of sense to me that they do this and I would really be interested in seeing or should I say fitted to a ball that doesn’t just lower driver spin but also helps on iron/wedge spin. I played the 330-RX for along time and that is a great ball.
You are really missing out if not being fit or trying different balls. Strong beard game too!!!
