Holy crap day one is almost over and I'm ready to chew my fingers off. If I can kick this I deserve some aerotech's. Wish I could go to sleep so can start over tomorrow

Stick with it, dude. I am rooting you on.

I have tried numerous times and just don't have the willpower to see it through. I need to get myself in the right frame of mind and try again. It's tough, but I KNOW I can do it. I want to quit so bad. I don't enjoy smoking, the taste, the smell, the feel, it's just a habit at this point.

Congratz on everyone quitting. It must be something with how peoples brains react differently to the addiction.

I quit cold turkey a long time ago and it was pretty easy IMO.

Quitting smoking is so damn hard. I've been clean for at least 3 years now...maybe longer I can't remember. The worst part was the nicotine withdrawals...had to get some of the nicotine gum....man that stuff was like heaven. I could just feel the nicotine circulating through my veins. GL to all that are trying to quit and congrats to all the prior quitters.

Quitting is easy, I do it all the time.

Staying quit is the hard part. I'm at the point where I'm pretty sick of the habit.

Keep at it SI. It does get easier and you will feel much better. I am about 8 months on and I am so glad that I quit.

When does the new car prize happen?

Get snacks man. Sunflower seeds, Almonds, sugar-free candies or mints... Something to keep your mouth a bit busy. You can do this!!!

I chewed the heck out of some sunflower seeds. I love those things.

Thanks Dan! I am proud of myself and I don't mind bragging about that fact. I think if you quit smoking, you get that pass for the first year.

That is a great question. Probably when I am debt free next year. It will be a double prize.

Nice. I think one of these are in order!

I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.. You become an inspiration for folks who think it's impossible.

I agree! I would hate to think what the insurance on that would be much less the cost of the car itself.

That is a good thought.

Congrats to ALL who are quitting! It took me at least a dozen tries before I was able to quit. I did it with the patch. The first time I did the patch, I stopped for 4 weeks and considered myself 'quit'. I went out with friends to a bar, and felt 'just one won't hurt'. BAM! I was back to my 2 1/2-3 packs a day in nothing flat!!

The second time I used the patch, I used the highest patch 24 hours a day. I only took it off for a shower. I had to completely change my habits. No bar hopping, no breaks with my friends who smoked at work, walking the dogs more, trying to stay moving.... The one side benefit with using the patch 24/7 is that I had very vivid dreams. Very vivid erotic dreams!!! Great side effect!!!

The second time quitting with the patch, it 'took'. It also helped that in NJ they passed a state law prohibiting smoking in public places like bars. Except for the casinos in AC. They got an exemption. Money talks.

I'm so glad that I have this monkey off my back. I don't think that I could afford to be a 2 1/2-3 pack a day person with cigs at more than $5/pack!!!! Over $7-8 in NYC!!!

Man congrats to all you that are either quitting or have quit. It's no easy task and sometimes one day at a time or even one minute at a time is the goal, just don't smoke!

Congrats to all that have quit or are in the process of quitting. As a former smoker it is a difficult thing to do but it can be done. I think it is very personal, somethings work well for some and not so well for others. Make a plan for you and stick to it and it will work. Gum worked for me and i have been smoke free for over 2 years. I have the occasional cigar but thats it. Also if you have heard of snus, my experience is that it WILL NOT help you quit it will only make you crave the tobacco and nicotine even more. Good luck all!!

I would love to have the occasional cigar. Maybe I will try after a year of not smoking.

I've quit smoking but I'm considering trying a pipe.

I'm sure that this will generate some true sincere motivation if you actually go through with it. I hope that you do and are able to quit. Way to go SethO!

Congrats to all those who are trying to quit or have quit. I was a smoker for 16 years. I quit about 7 times during that period and eventually went back everytime.

Finally in February of this year I said enough is enough and I just quit. I did not have a cigarette for 4 straight months. Cold Turkey FTW! It was hard as hell, especially when out drinking with the boys. After that four months one night I was a bit overserved and talked a bud into giving me one. My goodness was it fantastic. But this time I was able to have just that one and it did not make me want to go out and buy a pack! I truely believe its all in your mind. If you can tell yourself your done you can do it without help.

I officially consider myself a non-smoker now after 6 months. I have switched to the occasional cigar now though. I have found that having a good cigar which will last 45mins-1hr while drinking really gets rid of the urge to smoke a cigarette. Problem is I am really starting to get into the cigars. If you think cigarettes are expensive, cigars will make you think cigs are cheap. Even though I will only smoke 1 or sometimes 2 a week they cost me as much as 2 packs of smokes.

I would agree with you on that one. Good luck! You can do it but it wont be easy just try and stick to it. I also found when I got bored I was way more likely to smoke, so stay busy how ever you can.

Pipes are awesome!

I quit for a month on that method, but the clubs were pretty much my only motivation. After that month, I was back to smoking again.

I love to go into a cigar shop and look at all the selection in the humidor and smell the smells. I miss a good cigar.

Yeah, I will have to be confidant that I am not going to start smoking more than one per month when I start smoking a cigar again. I have been completely nicotine free for the last 8 months so I have rid myself of the chemical dependence, but the mental dependence is still there.

LOL, thats still really cheap!

Congrats again Seth.

haha, Canadia is so expensive.

Thanks man!

Back when I smoked they were 25 cents a pack and when I gave them up, they were up to 75 cents which was outrageous :D. Times sure have changed!
