Arriving at THP's New York branch this week will be the Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 816 Fairway Wood. If you are looking for a compact fairway wood that is loaded with technology, this should grab your attention. We will use this thread to update with thoughts and feedback throughout the testing process.

Tech Features & Benefits

High Ball Speed From Cup Face Technology
Good players already generate high ball speeds, and the Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup will generate ball speed on center and off-center shots with this fairway wood.

Tour Preferred CG Positions
Move the adjustable weights (3g and 16g) for the ball flight you want to play. When you want to lower spin put the weight forward, and when the weight is back you’ll have more forgiveness with higher launch. It can be a long option off the tee or a more playable club on approach shots - it all depends on how you want to use it.

Modern Shaping and Sole Design
A slightly larger head provides more MOI than you would expect out of an elite player’s fairway wood. The sole design provides control from a variety of lies. The matte black finish provides an uncluttered look at address.

OptiFit Adjustability
Tune the fairway wood to the settings you want to play with our 8-way adjustability. You can add loft, take loft off or adjust the lie angle to fit your swing.

The Big Bertha Alpha 816 Fairway Wood can be found in stores on 9/18/2015. The price for these clubs will be $299.99 and they can be purchased in lofts of 14, 16, and 18 degrees.

Stock Shaft: Aldila Rogue 70

This thing looks mean. And I like it. Looking forward to your trials and thoughts Dean! This technology certainly has my attention.

I have always loved Callaway fairway woods. Something about them just works with my swing. I hit my 6 year old X 3 wood around 265 from the tee, but am seriously considering trading up for one of these. Can't wait to give it a swing.

Love Love Love the weighting system. Reminds me of a modern version of the Z-Star weight system from a few years ago. Easier to use and I believe will be more effective too. Looking forward to Ddec's thoughts on this one.

Looking forward to following along Dean

Wow she is pretty. Dark and fierce. That thing looks like it screams confidence and aggressive on the tee box.

I've almost bought the 815 in 16* a bunch of times. I'm looking forward to seeing the comparisons to the 816. Do you know what the stock shaft on these is? Is it the Speeder again?

Any chance of getting a side-by-side comparison of the 816 and GBB?

I'm particularly interested in seeing the face depth on these clubs. The 816 looks pretty shallow, which I prefer.

They are of similar depth to me ATL. The difference being the 816 has a lightly more compact head.

I don't have confirmation on that just yet. But I imagine they will be similar offerings to the 816 driver. I'm thinking Rogue and or D+.

This is a good looking club. I'll be following along closely to see how the testing unfolds.

The VSeries is the easiest FW I have ever hit and winder how this compares

All the wighting options intrigue me since I've never played with something where you can change the weights like that. I love my XR Pro and the small head size so I'll be interested to see the slightly larger size and how it looks/feels to me.

New York branch...love it. This club looks outstanding and could sway me back to a wood ootion besides driver. Some swings will be had for sure. Looking forward to your thoughts.

This club is awesome. Slight modifications to current 815 but man those changes did this club good. Matte finish looks great and launch with new weighting is real good.

That is a beautiful looking fairway wood. Very interested to hear how the testing goes.

Definitely intriguing, especially in a fairway wood. I've never even used an adjustable loft FW yet, let alone weight adjustable.

agree on the Vseries. That line was just great off the deck. I have the '14 BB 3 wood in the bag now and really like that one as well from both tee and deck.

Definitely intriguing, especially in a fairway wood. I've never even used an adjustable loft FW yet, let alone weight adjustable.

I am certainly looking forward to seeing how much of a difference it makes. Being that the lofts are 14/16/18 (and you can go up 2 and down 1), I am going through options in my head about what combo would work in my bag. Obviously it will be tested on multiple settings. I kind of like the idea of 16 or 17 with that weight forward.

i kind of moved away from using FWs but this one intrigues me. looking forward to following along dean

I can't wait to see the results you come up with.
