I am a 5 handicap and recently made the switch from last year's X Forged to this year's Apex (not Pro). I made the change because once or twice a round I was hitting an approach a little fat with the X Forged and getting about 65-75% the distance- this would inevitably go into a hazard, trap, etc and throw off my score by a few strokes. In doing research and talking with the Callaway rep, I came away with the impressions the wider sole of the Apex would help reduce how much of the club dug into the ground (bounce) and improve the distance when caught a little fat. I found this to be true while demoing and a mishit or fat shot wound up getting 90-95% of the distance. The draw back and reason for my buyer's remorse is the feel. The X-Forged felt perfect when caught in the screws, whereas that feeling is not really there with the Apex. Have I made an $1100 mistake or did I make the right decision to take a step in the "game improvement" iron? Does this make sense? Do I need to give it a month or so and get used to this new feel? I am hitting the new irons pretty well, but with any change, it feels different. Thoughts?
